Afterpay Refer a Friend Program: $10 off $50 Min. Spend for Both Referee and Referrer (Use By 90 Days)

220

Just noticed this in the Afterpay app. Refer a friend who isn’t already an Afterpay customer and you both get $10 each!

The “Refer a friend” program (“Program”) will be available from 12:00AM on 9 December, 2020 AEDT to 11:59PM on 31 January March, 2021 AEDT.

  • When you refer a friend who is a new customer ("Referred Customer") to use the Afterpay service, you will receive $10 off your next eligible Afterpay purchase of $50 or more automatically applied at checkout. A new customer is defined as a friend or family member of a current Afterpay customer who does not at the time of referral have an active Afterpay account and has not had an active Afterpay account within the past 12 calendar months. Afterpay reserves the right to exclude any customer from being considered a new customer or Referred Customer if they, for example, in the past had an Afterpay account and was not in good standing with that account as determined in Afterpay’s sole discretion.

  • Any Referred Customer who signs up to use the Afterpay service directly from your referral will also receive $10 off their next eligible Afterpay purchase of $50 or more automatically applied at checkout. Referred Customer understands that by signing up to use the Afterpay service directly from a referral, Referred Customer consents and agrees to the disclosure of having created an Afterpay account to the person who referred the Referred Customer through this Program.

  • Any promotional discount from this Program will expire after 90 days of being issued to you or the Referred Customer (as applicable) and are one time use only.

  • Both you and the Referred Customer will be eligible for the promotional discount under the Program if the Referred Customer signs up to use the Afterpay service directly by clicking your unique Program link.

  • Any promotional discount from this Program will be applied to the total original purchase value as displayed by the retailer (including tax and shipping costs) to reduce the value of the four payments equally for you or the Referred Customer (as applicable).

  • Where the promotional discount is used on an Afterpay purchase that is subsequently returned or refunded by you or the Referred Customer (as applicable), Afterpay reserves the right to recover the value of the promotional discount used.

  • If any products have been purchased using this promotional discount and are returned, the maximum amount you or the Referred Customer (as applicable) will be refunded is the amount paid for the product, subject to any applicable refund policies.

  • Any promotional discount amount is not transferable and not redeemable for cash or any other credit, and may not be resold or applied to any previously placed orders.

  • Any promotional discount amount may not be used in conjunction with any other Afterpay promotion.

  • After you have used the $10 promotional discount amount from referring the Referred Customer, there will be no more rewards for subsequent Afterpay purchases.

  • You may refer up to 5 unique Referred Customers throughout the duration of the Program for a maximum promotional discount total of $50, provided that such referrals are made only to your direct friends, acquaintances or family and any unique Program link is not published by you in any public place, whether online or otherwise, which could reasonably be seen by any person who is not your direct friend, acquaintance or family in Afterpay’s sole discretion. Any referrals must also comply with these Program terms and Referred Customers must be eligible for the Program at all times.

  • You and the Referred Customer may be from the same household, provided always that the Referred Customer is not an existing Afterpay customer.

  • For the avoidance of doubt, you may not refer yourself to also be the Referred Customer (e.g. by using separate email addresses for the Afterpay accounts).

  • All Referred Customers must sign up with an Afterpay account and reside in the same country as the Afterpay account and country in which you reside.

  • Afterpay reserves the right to validate the eligibility of any Referred Customer with respect to whether they are a new customer or as otherwise deemed necessary, and may determine any Referred Customer to be ineligible in its sole discretion.

  • Promotional discount amounts will be available for Afterpay purchases made by you or the Referred Customer (as applicable) online, and will not apply to any in-store purchases using the Afterpay service.

  • Afterpay reserves the right to modify or cancel the Program at any time without prior notice to you.

  • If you or the Referred Customer breach any of these Program terms or Afterpay’s Terms of Service, you will not be eligible for any promotional discount amount under this Program.

  • For the avoidance of doubt, any reference to ‘$’ or ‘dollars’ refers to Australian dollars.

    Refer a Friend to Afterpay

    Nah…

  • Cheers, was about to

Before you refer a friend to afterpay consider that 20% of revenue is from missed payment fees. Do you want to be responsible for pushing a friend into debt?

Unfortunately the reserve bank has decided that Afterpay can continue to prevent retailers from imposing a surcharge causing market distortion.

    • +4

Maybe just be conscious that they have their spending habits under control… i don’t think Afterpay is to blame for someone going into debt.

Do you consider banks should be held accountable for irresponsible lending?

I had a quick look on the AfterPay website and I couldn't find details on the late fees. I did find the hardship page

Market distortion is being caused because to quote the article:

Retailers have to date accepted paying the fee, which is far higher than what they pay to take card payments

I'm curious as to why there are so many negative votes on the comment.

I disagree with your criticism of 20% revenue from late fees, but agree with your criticism of the RBA. Afterpay should be allowed to be surcharged as credit cards are, I think the consumer will be the benefitter in the end as these services race to the bottom. Afterpay's merchant rates are near criminal (inb4 it's a marketing engine - yes but it's a payment engine first and foremost).

Yes… and so did the Banking Royal Commission.

Referral program must be targetted - can't see in my app

This would indicate that referrals shouldn't be put on Ozbargain, even in the referrals page?

      We're all family here <3

      • Yeah I think we're 'acquaintances' but says link musn't be published in any public place.

    Where is the referral page?

  • +2

running the latest version of the ios app and can't find it anywhere

    • Bottom of profile page?

No thanks. If a "friend" can't pay for items upfront for whatever reason, the last thing they need is to be coaxed into a system with late payment fees and a high interest rate.

It appears that we might be old school in that you only borrow to buy a house and possibly a car but not for discretionary spending.

      • It would appear that way. Nevertheless, there have been many stimulus measures (which are being scaled back) and cash liquidity recently… I would suggest that if somebody can't afford a discretionary expense currently, in most cases they will be less able afford it in the future.

I prefer afterpay than my credit card. much easier to pay and control, no need to wait for statement etc

    • Don’t you get frustrated by the countless SMS and email? I contacted support to get them to turn it off but you can’t. Aside from that it’s good to use.

  • Have anyone been successful in obtaining the $10 credit?

I referred someone, got the email to say they had signed up and that I would get $10 off my next purchase over $50 before Jan 31st. Made a purchase over $50 and never received the credit :(

    • I haven't used it yet, was going to use it on eBay. Did you contact support?

      • Yes, they won’t hour it because it was an in store purchase and hidden in the t&c it says online only offer. If you going to use it on eBay you should be fine.

        • Oh that’s dodgy. Thanks for letting me know. Today’s the last day so I’ll have a look later today.

          • @bobwokeup: I think you only need to have referred a friend by 31st Jan. You then have 90 days to make your purchase from the date of the referral. That’s what they told me anyway’

‘Any promotional discount from this Program will expire after 90 days of being issued to you or the Referred Customer (as applicable) and are one time use only.’

            • @JHoliday: Oh yeah thanks for that. Just saw it on the terms:
“Any promotional discount from this Program will expire after 90 days of being issued to you”

  • How long is it supposed to take for the $10 to come through for a referee? I might’ve stuffed it up. I put in my phone number then opened a new tab and got a referral code which then took me back to Afterpay to fill in details like my name and address.

  • Done it and it didn't work. I ticked the correct link. After I contacted afterpay and I am discussing since days with with them now.

  • if you have referred someone and received the $10 email can you buy a $50 gift card and get $10 off? will the $10 referral credit received expire at end of March or after 90 days of being issued to you?

    • You can buy anything as long as Afterpay is accepted there. You have 90 days from the time of referral to use it.

    • Yes:

Gift Cards from Afterpay $50.00 AUD
      promo Afterpay -$10.00 AUD
      Total amount payable $40.00 AUD
      4 x payments of $10.00 AUD
      Due today $10.00 AUD
  • has anyone tried the new digital MC afterpay card? can you buy a $50 coles gift card instore and pay with it using google pay or apple pay and still get the $10 referral credit off? will it still count towards the pulse rewards program and will you get option of 4 splits or have to pay the full amount upfront from linked credit card?

  • +1

i tried to use the at digital MC afterpay card at bunnings but it failed i guess it was becuase afterpay isnt accepted there. so i guess the digital MC afterpay card will only work at stores that already accept afterpay?
