PIA bought out by Kape. Read this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/505229

    • Thanks for the info. I've updated the post.

Disturbing that they're willing to pay you while that link reports they inject spyware and sell user data. Sounds like you would end up being the product.

Yeah, I’m not gonna give any of my info to these weirdos

Aren’t they already in the doghouse from the data breach or hasn’t most people forgotten?

      Good to know.
However, I never use any proprietary VPN clients, always use OpenVPN.
Depend on your use case, if you just want to be safe from your ISP, then OpenVPN with any VPN provider is good. Same goes for avoiding Netflix regions etc.
Never use your normal CC on those services. Use trashable one-off from Revolut or prepaid CC. Never use your real name or other identifiable data.
Then you don't have to worry about your data being sold.
If you don't use their client then you don't have to worry about MITM attacks, as you would notice them, so no worry about injecting anything into your browsing (as 99% of the web is now https). Use DNS over HTTPs or DNS not via the VPN if you are really worried.
For the price and given the above it is an OK deal. (Not for me as I got the deal last time with 100% cashback)

      • The only problem is, cashback.

How they're going to pay you if they got the wrong registration data?

And one cannot be naive to think that only having your real data with shopback makes you "safe". That's probably part of their deal with PIA.

For a cash back generous as that, you are the product, no doubt.

got 3 yr sub a month or so ago, love the app and service, real good. Either way you cant trust most VPN services regardless, it's just someone else's private network. PIA has been requested to release customer data previously and they had nothing to show the courts. Also even if theyre in a 5 eyes country(USA) there is always people or security firms building apps to get what they want from you (XkeyScore, etc).

It is some form of defense against metadata retention from agencies, like the Australian Government, but unless you actually know what you're doing to cover y our tracks, ur still gonna be using google search engine and it's gonna track you regardless.

For most people it offers some sense of security and it's well known, lets not forget NORD VPN i believe also had security issues a few years ago with a vpn server they incorrectly setup which was breached, so no ones perfect.

    just my 2c.

    • PIA has been requested to release customer data previously and they had nothing to show the courts.

All of their actions before changing owners are now irrelevant.

  • How do they deem new customers?
I have had an account with them before but hasnt been active for a year or 2

  • Norton 360 has am included VPN anec and Norton 360 costs from about $15 pa .. :-) .. !!

  • What about Google VPN. Anyone tried it yet?

Hi guys, I signed up this morning on the 3 year $109 plan. Only tracked $97.59 cashback.

I read there can be currency fluctuations, but 10% in a period of hours is not possible, even less so as cashback is 103%.

I’d say only sign up if you are willing to pay $14. Cheers.

    • The cashback before this promotion was 90%, so they probably slipped up and gave you the wrong amount. Possibly wait for a little bit to see if it gets updated, but otherwise just contact them.

      • Update. Cashback is now correctly showing.

  • Cancelled my PIA after hearing of the sellout to a scam company.

  • How long for tracking email?
I done it on laptop turned off ad blocker
Clicked through chrome extension and purchased straight away done all the right things and havent got email.

    • not sure whats going on but my partners pia login had my email address so guessing that means im not a new customer…. has her payment method and everything.

my old account that was 3 years old had her email address???

looks like wont get cashback so time to cancel it. anyone recommend a cheap vpn? I only use the sock5 proxy
