  • Aren't these made in China?

    • -7

Your iphone is also made in china, any point to this argument?

      • You just said it. I can't get an iphone not made in china, because they're iphones and they're all made in china.

In comparison, luxury goods (like watches) are fungible and ubiquitous…so buying luxury goods made by a 3rd world country makes no sense.

        • -3

so buying luxury goods made by a 3rd world country makes no sense.

Poor opinions like this make me shake my head. It isnt a luxury item because it's made in China? A $2000 iphone that's made in China is more of a luxury item than this $300 watch by the way

But somehow 'it makes no sense' lol

          • @nikoris: If you think buying an iphone and getting access to apple's ecosystem is the same as buying a luxury good, you must be using a blackberry or just woke up from a 12 year coma.

And like I said, this watch is fungible. It's probably mass produced too. What's to prevent me from buying other watches, better watches or cheaper watches than this one that was apparently worth $750?

So why buy mass produced "luxury" goods like this that are made from a 3rd world country? Why was it worth $750 and now going for $295.95? It's not even a luxury item at this point.

            You're just buying overpriced garbage.

Buying a $200 smartphone gives you access to google's ecosystem, any point to this argument?

So why buy mass produced "luxury" goods like this that are made from a 3rd world country?

What's it to you if it was made in Germany or China? Build quality can be much better in China.

So why buy mass produced "luxury" goods like this that are made from a 3rd world country?

How is a $700 watch a luxury item in Australia? That's less than a weeks pay of a teen working at Coles. A$2500 phone is much more 'luxury' and was built in China.

Why was it worth $750 and now going for $295.95?

You are definitely smarter than that, why is anything, ever on sale?

              You're just buying overpriced garbage.

My dude here trynna act smart. You'd probably spend triple the money for a worse watch "MaDe In nETherLanDs" but came here to share negative comments because this is made in a "THirD WoRLd CouNtRY"
I've literally lived in 4 countries and can see how narrow minded this argument is.

How is a $700 watch a luxury item in Australia?

My man, you need to read up on basic economics.

wikipedia: "Luxury goods are in contrast to necessity goods, where demand increases proportionally less than income. Luxury goods have high income elasticity of demand: as people become wealthier, they will buy proportionately more luxury goods."

Do you need a $700 watch to live? Do you need even need a $295 watch? Do you even a watch period bro?

Even some of the most poorest people have iphones. If you wanna access the apple ecosystem, then you gonna need an iphone.

And no, they're not "all $2500 phones!". You can definitely get an iphone cheaper than this watch.

Buying a $200 smartphone gives you access to google's ecosystem, any point to this argument?

I can name 10 other alternative "luxury" watch brands. Go name 10 other alternatives to apple and google ecosystems.

Then go look up fungible means.

What's it to you if it was made in Germany or China? Build quality can be much better in China. I've literally lived in 4 countries and can see how narrow minded this argument is.

Yeah, in terms of probability, I guess anything "can" be built much better in China.

But if you really think China's known for building things with more quality than Germany as a whole, then you be playing the fool or you're just ignorant. You should go live in 10 more countries and see if that helps.

Do you need a $700 watch to live?

So a $1000 iphone is a luxury item because you can buy a $200 android phone, right? 'Basic economics', right?

If you wanna access the apple ecosystem, then you gonna need an iphone.

What does this even mean? Is this an Apple keynote?

But if you really think China's known for building things with more quality than Germany as a whole, then you be playing the fool or you're just ignorant.

We are talking about $300-700 smartwatches (apparently for you it's a luxury item) and you are the one crying about the origin and then somehow it went to a whole 'luxury status' thing lmfao

Iphones are made in China and they have excellent build quality (not talking about the ecosystem, i dont care if you have alternatives or not )
A $2500 iphone is more of a luxury item than a $300 watch (read the definition you kindly shared)
                  And please, wake up.

@nikoris: " spend triple the money for a worse watch "MaDe In nETherLanDs" "

More like 1/3 of the money for a quality budget Citizen or Seiko [the likely candidates for whatever cheap movement is in this one] that you can reasonably expect to be passing on as part of your estate.

"Price Quality Signalling" has long been a tool in vendors' toolkit, and our phychological defense of cognitive dissonance a factor in our satisfaction, with the payment of a higher price for over-rated items leaving the consumer with the choice of assuring themselves of the wisdom of their buying a 'higher quality' product when such is clearly not the case or acknowledged they have been taken for a fool.

For those who consider having the name "Hugo Boss" stamped on the faceplate is worth an extra $650, having to only pay ~ $200 for the privilege will be a bargain. Maybe the Proud Boys or other tributes to our shared simian lineage may consider it a plus, however I'm saving my readies in the hope that Levi are going to bring out a rotisserie air-fry or a branded set of cable-ties…

    • My AMD CPU is made in Malaysia. No issues here. Get a Malaysian made Hugo Boss watch if you can. I can vouch for the quality.

    • Will they take a bag of Australian barley or bottle of wine ?

      • A crate of lobster and you got a deal.

  • +1

Some bad reviews about quality, could they be fake?

    • +6

More likely its just a low quality, garbage watch with a Hugo Boss label slapped on it and a correspondent jacked up price. No different to any other fashion watch.

      • -5

Literally 4.6/5 stars out of 1000 reviews, i'd call that good quality, can we stop with the narratives?

  • +5

For this kind of money better get one from Seiko or citizen.

  • +3

Unless you are some sort of Hugo fanboi this is bad value at any price.

Ain't no one walking around wearing a Hugo suit and a Hugo watch.

    • +2

Ain't no one walking around wearing a Hugo suit and a Hugo watch.

You can't tell me what to do. Imma spray my whole body in hugo boss perfume before I suit up and bling up.

      #madlad

    • Honest question - I might be wrong, but has the perceived luxury/value of Hugo Boss products declined over the past few years? Their products just seem bland relative to other fashion brands to me. What do people here think?

  • +2

    Fashion watch - rubbish.
You can get a good automatic from a horology-bred watchmakee for same/less money even without discount.

  • Why even bother. Even a $30 phone can tell time….

  • +2

If you're going to spend that much buy a proper watch from a proper manufacturer.
You can probably get the same watch from the same factory without the boss branding for 30$ on aliexpress.
Do yourself a favour a buy a Citizen eco-drive from Starbury or something.
