I just use the free version.

    • Good luck.
They've removed features from the free version. You now can't quarantine anything that's found in a scan with the free version.

      • Lots of other free malware removal tools then…

I think you don't have the real time scan for the free version?

Malwarebytes is suitable to use as your ONLY antivirus/ malware product as is overall a great product with good support.
You don't have real time protection with the free version.
The free version only allows you to run on-demand scans when you ask for it.

        • Do you mean Malwarebytes is suitable to use as your only av/malware product if using the paid version? Because lack of real time protection would be a bit of a killer versus something like Windows Defender or any other free av.

        • Yes, it's a great product. They used to sell lifetime license for $50 back many years ago and I bought three licenses. I hope I had bought more…

        • I'm sorry but I disagree there.
Whilst that used to be true, now that they've removed features from the free version and you can't quarantine anything that's found in a scan, the free version is no longer fit for purpose.

          • @Rail Rider95: Just reinstall it for another 14 day premium trial. There are no limits to the 14 day trial re-installs. Don't want to pay ~70 AUD/year, just reinstall it every second week.

@LawLaff: That used to be true, but even on first install with the premium trial active, it doesn’t allow for quarantining anymore.

              • @Rail Rider95: I've literally just done this again this morning.

edit: to be clear - the quarantine does work.

I've already used this so I don't know if it is still valid, but if you have access to a studentbeans account you can get 4 years of Malwarebytes Premium for a total of USD$5 here: https://malwarebytes.connect.studentbeans.com/

  • I bought a lifetime license for a few bucks on ebay. Happy.

    • I'm going to hazard a guess that you only applied the licence to the application and not to an actual account on a website.

If I'm correct, you did not buy a lifetime licence, you bought a slot on someone else's lifetime licence - a bit like a slot in a Spotify Family or Nintendo Online Family account.
The owner of the actual lifetime licence can just revoke your slot whenever they feel like, and then resell the slot again.

I wouldn't be surprised if the eBay seller has already deleted their account and phoenixed into another one.

      • I believe it was just via the application, so that may be the case. But it's 3 years or so ago I bought it for around the cost of a reasonable coffee, so I've gotten my mileage and then some.

  • You get what you pay for,and Norton offers better value with their current offers.

  • I would suggest that you check the forums prior to purchasing this. The newest version doesn't work quite the same as the previous versions and has compatibility issues with some other security products. I own the product but have uninstalled.
