Looks cool even if i dont know what most of the features are

  • thks bought, looks busiest of all my watches but at this price i will give it a go, looks cool, and be even cooler if i learn to use the dials even if i’m not a pilot or yachtsman.

  • +1

Solid price. Wouldn't normally go a battery quartz and yet it's on its way.

    • +1

normally I wouldn't either but for this piece i would.

      any Urban Gentry followers?

      • Me :)

      • ME! Love him, he is so friendly (just look at the comment section!)and gives top notch advice

      • As of yesterday evening, me too!

  • Great find! Bought. Thanks for sharing 🙌

  • Yeh I'm sold - just bought one. Will be fun figuring out how to use it!

    • How to read the face?
      Ha, pretty complicated

  • +1

    what is the watch for?

I went to school with him 30 years ago.

Have the many years of counselling helped you since?

@mextiki: He was an interesting guy, even back then. He ran a computer business making a couple of thousand a week during year 12. He was a lot less bombastic, but always self-assured.

            • +1

@Daabido: That claim seems a bit far fetched, what did he do?

              • +2

@Jenny Death: He sold hardware and software and networking, sometimes to his father's accounting clients and sometimes to individuals. Those were the days when there was good money to be had in selling computer hardware and you could literally put an ad in the paper relatively cheap and people would buy them from you from your house. It may sounds far fetched, but it was possible 30 years ago.

                • -2

@Daabido: I think you hit the nail on the head with "…sometimes to his father's accounting clients".
                  Daddy's money.

                  Cynical? Yes.

                • @Daabido:

When I was at TAFE many moons ago. We went with classmates to this guys house to buy a motherboard. Guy even did the jumper settings for the cpu he was going to use.

                • @Daabido: Not too out there, i bought a pi from some guys house. I wish there were more small suppliers.

          • @mextiki: Seems like a lot of people love to step on him based on the Youtube comments I've read. Is there a reason behind this?

Pilots who don't trust the Boeing 737 MAX avionics.

Weighing your wrist down. One owner in a thousand might learn what all the parts and functions do and actually have a use for them, all the rest just want a big chunky watch.

      • It's not a very big watch. And it's just a stop watch with sliderule markings on the bezel

Now after seeing that Daniel Wellington watch deal this morning and the amount of people asking what a decent watch is this is it!

  • Great deal.

  • Is it just me or are the numbers indicating the hours 1 - 12 missing? I feel that if someone was to ask me what the time was I would panic!

    • +6

      What time is it?

      Me: Yes

    • not the best face for telling the time, especially if you wear glasses and don’t have them on but it’s a cool watch at a great price and because it’s quartz you don’t need to wear it daily but it’s always ready to go unlike my automatics. .i have other watches that are easier to read

      • any idea how long will the battery last

  • Perfect timing for Christmas

    • +3

Not really. It drops in late January.

  • Yeh why not.

  • I got this watch. I love it. You can say you are a pilot and impress the girls.

    • +21

Pilot here. No girls are impressed by pilots anymore since we're all jobless.

      • Were they ever?

        • +1

          dat hat tho

  • Good looking watch. Very similar watch to mine (Seiko Chronograph V172-0AC0). Mine is the solar powered though.

    • Is it for open roof cockpits?

  • I honestly don't know anything about expensive watches, but I just did a search and found this:
    https://www.ozdigitalwatch.com/products/seiko-flightmaster-c…

They look very similar, but I know there is a difference since the one posted here is an SNA411 while the other one is a SND253P1

Does anyone actually know what the real difference is tho haha :)

I did find another link for the same model and the price is $460, proving this deal as quite a good one hehe

Seems like all of my favourite watches are 42mm. As someone who has and probably always will have skinny wrists, it'd be great if there were more 40mm options.

    • This watch wears more like a 40mm due to the large bezel and domed crystal. I have skinny wrists too but it still works out because of how small the actual watch face is.

    • 42mm is ok, particularly in divers. No bigger for me also, most are huge

  • Does anyone know how much does the NATO/Zulu green strap (compatible with Seiko Flightmaster SNA411) cost?

    • You can get a cheap one off ebay for like $15 bucks

  • -1

You had me until I read the words, quartz and battery powered… damn otherwise I was good to go on this

    • Battery lol.
      good for the fitbit

    • +2

      What's wrong with quartz?

      • It's fine, other people snobbing it off.
my mate still has a seamaster quartz.
However, if you're spending that dosh you need automatic.

      • Quartz is accurate and reliable and boring. Most people don't need a watch now, and most of those who do would be better served by a cheap Casio. Watches are a fashion statement or at least there to be interesting. A quartz watch is not interesting.

I'm currently rocking a 1960 Tudor that I inherited from my father. It needs a new crystal (ordered) and a new band (ordered) and it's comically small by modern standards, but it's a genuine Swiss Rolex and that makes it interesting to me.

        • +1

My quartz watch changes time based on satellites it triangulate to. Handy when I was travelling. Thats interesting enough for me.

        • Nice, back when rolexes were attainable by saving for a little while.

    • +4

So you're upset that it'll be reliable, easy to service and cheap?

      • Probably won't require any service. I've had quartz watches from 30 years ago that have never been serviced and still run perfectly.

  • Is this like the new cstchoftheday in the first year period? Where they only have one item a day at a really small cost

  • +1

Just be aware that the product doesn't ship until 22nd January. Also sign up bonus thing didn't work for me, it said only on audio products you get $10 off. BUT there was shopback of 1.5% on this one (thanks to the chrome extension for showing me that!)
Who cares that this watch is quartz, its beautiful. I'm adding it to my collection of automatics and I don't think it will look out of place

  • Thanks OP. Just bought it using your referral code. Btw if you paid with PayPal, make sure you pay with the original currency, in this case USD, instead of AUD. I ended up paying A256.6. ING bank reimburses any international transaction fees if you meet monthly requirement.

  • Thanks OP - got it for $193.40 inc shipping to Melbourne using a random referral code (about $254AUD using a currency conversion fee-free card like my ANZ Travel Adventures). A bargain for this watch.

    • @xyron what was the referral code?

      • No idea - I just hit the random referral generator at the top of this post. Gave me $10USD off my order and presumably a $10USD voucher to whoever's referral it was!

      • I figured it out…. if you activated the drop welcome $10 offer the referrer code doesnt work as it tries to apply the Welcome promo behind the scenes… the only way around i found is to sign in using a different account after clicking through via the referrer as there doesnt appear to be a way to turn off the Welcome

Managed to also get for $193.4 USD, $255.14 AUD showing on my St George credit card

I haven't worn a watch for at least 10 years and really have no desire to wear one today, yet I bought one of these.

    Damn you Ozbargain.

    • +2

And for that. You just got you ozb membership renewed.

    • +1

Exactly what I did R4… Haven't worn a watch since I was a kid… And now I've been suckered in… this probably won't be the last. Ozbargain: Stimulating the impulse economy since the dawn of the net.

While this model looks handy for avoiding the embarrassment and shame you feel in that moment when you forget how many pecks to a bushel (A terrible problem that no doubt still afflicts a great many). I'm wondering if they make a metric version? Admittedly it's quite rare for me to find myself in metric airspace at the moment but if I do in future and the pilots fall ill after consuming a bad in-flight fish dinner I'm worried I might be SOL when trying to work out if I'm under the maximum landing weight with this watch. I fear that in such a scenario I may have to fall back to the instincts I developed flying fighter jets during the war and hope for the best.

  • It's metric AND imperial. If you look carefully at the bezel it mentions kg, litres etc. One of the main things you can do is convert miles to km or nautical miles or whatever.

    • Surely you can't be serious. I'm not aware of any metric unit called liters. There's one called litres and we speak the Queens English in my cockpit.

      • +1

        Don't call him Surely :p

  • Took me about 2mins to tell the time
