  • Do you know if this cable is decent quality?

    Sadly it's not gold-plated

    • Is that necessary for digital communications? It's just the same as digital TV, it either looks fine or it's pixelated as hell. This would matter with analogue audio/video and stuff, but not for HDMI.

      • Actually the point of gold plated ends for digital devices are so they don't rust and are more malleable so that they can be inserted into ports easier.

I'll give you the rust, and stop you there. :)

          I agree with TheJew.

Gold-plated contacts are really only important to stop corrosion, and that usually only happens if you touch the contacts or the contacts are likely to get damp, e.g. a USB memory in someone's pocket. Neither is likely for a HDMI connector.

Some connectors have the contacts just touching, like many SIM card holders, and gold is important for that sort of connector. For the type of connector where the contacts wipe across each other during insertion, that is usually enough to remove debris (e.g. dust and pocket fluff/lint) and will also cut through a light layer of corrosion.

Finally, just saying "gold plated" doesn't mean much. The "gold" in proper connectors is an alloy (pure gold is way too soft), and what the gold is plated onto matters too. Gold plated onto copper will slowly dissolve into the copper, unless there is nickel plating between the two. Also, the thickness of the gold matters, as the thinner grades of gold plating wear off in as little as ten insertion-removal cycles. Many mil-spec connectors are rated for 250 cycles.

        • You know that air can be humid right?

The world is going to end!

    • Firstly these are gold plated, please refer to featutres before commenting

    • Yes it is, nice one! The OP/Rep will have to at least match that price or tell us what makes his cable better for the extra 50%.

      • This cable only mentions 1080p support no mention of 4kx2k also no mention of wire guage so most low 30awg. These are quality cables with latest 1.4 technology. Please refer to features before comparing price

        • The lightningcell cables are v1.4a so yes they will support 4k x 2k, and for a 1.8m cable 28awg or 30awg is unimportant, you WILL NOT get any significant interference that cannot be filtered out by the enconde/decode from peripheral to TV.
