[VIC] Spanst 134cm White LED Light Sticks $9 @ IKEA Richmond

560

These are essentially LED strips in a tube. Lay them or hang them to spice up your room.

Went to IKEA expecting to pick up two of these for $19 each. Was delighted to see these were only $9. Pretty good discount from $49.

These plug in to any female USB A port. Cable looked decently long and the stick looked evenly lit. Pretty sure these are in store only as website only has listings for the multicolour strips.

Heaps of stock left, easily over 300 remaining.

  • Why are these still $35 at Ikea Adelaide then? Does Ikea Adelaide have different pricing?

Edit: I think Adelaide only has the RGB ones and not the white ones in stock.

  • Does anyone know how many watts they burn?

Looking at running about 20 of them 24/7 (wall cladding with this as back lighting) and it could get expensive if it's higher wattage.

    • Found an old Amazon listing that suggests 4.5 or 5 watts.

      https://www.amazon.ca/IKEA-Spanst-Light-Stick-804-166-32/dp/…

An Led lighting tube of similar length (120cm rather than 134cm) for ceilings is generally about 18 watts, so not bad. Unless I'm reading it wrong.

    • It doesn't cast light the same way ugly fluorescent tubes do?

      • It probably doesn't, but to be providing a similar level of light (lumens seems similar, but again, I might not be reading it correctly) but be burning less than a third of the power seems … efficient.

Which is good, I'm not complaining.

        • I guess. I just care about how ugly those old fluoro tubes are with the light they cast, it ruins all photos and videos, and it's so bright that everything in the room gets lit up when the ceiling is lined with them, no mood at all.

      • Do you mean if it has banding? Saw it in store… One of them had banding but the other didn't :S

        • Actually they all seem to have slight banding.

    • (wall cladding with this as back lighting)

Why not just buy 5-metre rolls of strip-lights? You can make it as powerful or dim as you want.

This would have been helpful to me 24 hours ago before my drive to Ikea lol

Up the voltage and you have a DIY lightsaber

    • +8

Up the voltage and you'll have a plastic tube with burnt-out LEDs. ;-)

  • Anybody seen in QLD?

  • Does anyone have any idea what the lumen rating of these is?

    • +1

600 lumen - they are designed to be looked-at rather than lighting-up the room.

    • +1

i saw these while i was there at ikea earlier today. They’re dim and meant to be accent lights than task lights.

      • Fair, i was going to buy a bunch and use them for Veranda lighting but at 600 lumens its hardly worth the effort.

Holy crap! I paid $19ea for these (and $29ea for the multi-colour version) a couple of weeks ago here in Sydney.

PRO-TIP: Buy as many as you can carry and flog them on eBay (Yanks, in particular, are paying stupid money for them especially on eBay)

    • Dude, did you just start a stampede on Ikea richmond? Next week on "A Current Affair" Multiple people hurt in mad rush to rip off US Youtubers!

      • LOL! Just the ones flogging RTX series graphic cards for 30-50% above retail price.

  • Can anyone tell me if they have the white only version available in the Adelaide store? I'm on the otherwise of town.

  • Hey OP, wanting to confirm whether these are a cool white or warm white? Thinking of making my own lighting setup for photography use.

    • +1

They're pretty warm I guess, I read somewhere that they are 3500K, though I'm not that experienced with lighting. If it is for photography, I would suggest the sticks from Quasar Science, though they are extremely expensive. I don't think they are bright enough for photography, though they are great as a background prop. This video may help you choose though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrEFHvgsxbs

If you are still looking for a light in the stick style, i'm sure there are many replicas with varying brightnesses and temperatures.

      • Cheers. 3500K is perfect

You want to make sure they have a decent CRI

  • Has anyone found these for $9 at Springvale store? I called up but no one there can tell me if they are $9.

      • Haha ok maybe there is, where I looked on the shelf there were hardly any. I was in a rush though so most likely missed the pile. Hooked mine up to my Kogan smart plug and linked it into my Smartthings home automation to turn on when certain doors open at night
