If you can wait for the laptop to take more than 2 months to get into your hands. Unaware of any AMEX card deals at the moment and laptop offer can't be combined with any newsletter subscription or other discount codes through email.

Edit - Follow the below steps to get a 7% off for your entire cart (essentially reducing the laptop down to $1133.67). Thanks to @officersean

Discount code popped up after I added it to cart if I remember correctly. So I guess it was the product page or which page comes straight after as you progress with the order.

Got it by going to the student website. From there click the link that says ‘shop weekly deals’. That takes you to a page showing all products, you might need to clear filter as mine had all intel cpus selected for some reason. Once you’ve got the s540 AMD showing up, click ‘add to cart’. That will take you to another page and you should get the pop up within 10-15 seconds.

Pop up should look something similar to this - https://ibb.co/71KNPLH

Aaand I'm out. There's absolutely no excuse for this kind of 'preorder' from a major company

    • They did same for my Legion i5 and I got it in 3 weeks.

    • +1

Given up on lenovo ordering system and sales, worst ever , never got my laptop after 4 weeka and still charged me , reported to consumer affairs .

  • +3

I got this for 1142 in last deal … its a ripper … extremely happy with its performance and portability.

    • Still got the sleep issues mate?

      • +1

I didn't bother much as I connect it to TV to play games sometimes. I changed Closing Lid to Do Nothing and Power Button to Hibernate.

I just checked it multiple times, with and without power cord connected, and its going to sleep mode easily (breathing light indicator). Apparently its fixed.

        • +1

You can reset those settings now.

I installed the Bios update that was released a couple of weeks back, and in the changelog it mentions something about settings. I checked for half an hour just opening and closing the lid, on power / battery only, and sleep issue is fixed.

Now my webcam is still wrecked but everything else working well thankfully.

          • @adrianhughes1998: I got few updates by windows. I ain't sure if those are BIOS updates or do I need to update somehow manually ?

Checked change log … apparently I cant understand anything mentioned in there .. apparently someone named Andreas Kupries is doing something with laptop :D

            • +1

@ChipsChicky: yeah you have to update it manually, because it isn't in the Lenovo Vantage program. you have to go to https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/au/en/products/laptops-and-netb… and download the BIOS update and install.

I believe it's the "fix sleep timing sometimes error" in the BIOS changelog, because sometimes it would sleep when closing the lid, and other times it wouldn't. can't be anything else really, especially considering other brands with Ryzen CPU's seem to have sleep issues as well.

              • +1

@adrianhughes1998: Ahan ok … thanks mate … will do it today 👍

                • @ChipsChicky: No dramas, really liking the machine now that's it's 95% working. Kicking myself I didn't get 16gb version but to be honest, new 5xxx laptops coming soon so no point.

                  • @adrianhughes1998: Have you also played around with TDP settings ? How do you change it and which one is better ? I haven't looked inyo it yet.

Also i am using Microsoft Edge, which seems to consume more RAM. I saw somewhere to go to installation and select Change/Fix it, which reduced RAM consumption for few days but again went higher.

                    • +1

@ChipsChicky: The battery saving and balanced mode seem the same in terms of battery life for TDP. I only use Performance mode (25W) when I use the laptop for gaming.

I just use Chrome. They all use lots of RAM, just the way ut it is

                      • @adrianhughes1998: How do you switch it ?

                        • @ChipsChicky: In Lenovo vantage somewhere, otherwise in settings can change between Battery, Performance and whatever. It changes the TDP even though it doesn't state the TDP value.

                          • @adrianhughes1998: Ahan ok … thanks … i thougt i have to manually go in BIOS and change TDP value etc, which seemed like cumbersome.

    • In terms of performance this or the M1 MacBook air?

      • macos or windows?

      • +1

        Cinebench R23 scores:
        Ryzen 4800U = 9762
        Apple M1 = 7508

      • +1

If you need macOS, your only option is the M1. If you want to run WIndows, Linux, BSD etc your choice would be the AMD 4800U. The 4800U, despite being one node higher, 7nm vs 5nm of the M1 has better multi-threaded performance at a similar TDP of 12 to 15w in real world applications. I know some people quote Geekbench, but it's not realistic and has been optimised for Apple's ARM implementation.

  • what is the performance difference between Ryzen 7 4800U & Ryzen 7 4800HS?

  • Can someone please suggest a laptop or tablet for a high school student. School starting on 27 Jan 2021. It should meet the below configuration as required by the school. I have limited knowledge in this area and sincerely appreciate your suggestions. Any brand is OK. I don't want to spend more than $1200.00

PC or Tablet - screen must be able to detach or lie flat for stylus use
Screen type - minimum 10 inch (diagonally) and support stylus use
    Processor - minimum intel i5
    RAM - 8gb or higher
Hard drive- 256 gb ssd or higher
    Operating system - Windows 10
Must have keyboard, inbuilt webcam, inbuilt microphone, headphone port and USB port
    Battery life- minimum 8 hours

    Thank you!

  • Just a heads up, ordered the same laptop on the 30th of November with an ETA of 8 weeks but it was shipped on the 22nd of December. Try to speak to a customer service rep as well to negotiate the price, got it down from 1200ish to 1169.35.

  • Is it poss that they would offer this price or match their earlier sale ($1142) if you don't have access to the edu store?

    • +1

answering my own qn. spoke to a few cust svc agents but none wanted to budge on the price, but thanks to doweyy, got an acct to get the pricing advertised here.

      • How did you get an account. I don't have edu email address

        • It's in one of the earlier threads. look for doweyy.

  • I really like this laptop's specs and display, but the screen's too small for me, I've always used 15inch laptops. Does anyone hav recommendations for 15inch? Esp with good screen brightness?

  • Not sure if anyone else is on chrome version 87.0.4280.xx and keeps crashing on the lenovo site or just me. Worked in safari, IE and chrome v84.

Nice deal. Just copped one of these for $1133 using a 7% discount code which popped up.

Can anyone recommend a good dock/docking station for this machine? Just something to power the machine and provide connectivity two monitors (preferably at 4K60).

    Cheers!

    • Hey, did the pop-up come up on the product page or elsewhere? I asked CS chat to do this one for 1142 last week with edu email but they wouldn't go lower than the 1219. I didn't have the discount pop-up when I checked it just now :(

      • same :(

        • +2

have found some other codes that popped up with other laptops:

          Thinkpad X13 15% - TP-7-X
          ThinkPad T14 (AMD) 7% - TP-7-T
          IdeaPad Flex 5 (14", AMD) 5% - FL3X-5
          Legion 5, 15" 10% - L3GION-5

      • +2

Popped up after I added it to cart if I remember correctly. So I guess it was the product page or which we page comes straight after as you progress with the order.

The code was 5j6UPTFyH7HQ for what it’s worth.

I also tried chatting to a rep before I noticed the code and they wouldn’t budge from the $1219 price.

EDIT: just checked again for you and I’ve got another code popping up: https://ibb.co/71KNPLH

Got it by going to the student website. From there click the link that says ‘shop weekly deals’. That takes you to a page showing all products, you might need to clear filter as mine had all intel cpus selected for some reason. Once you’ve got the s540 AMD showing up, click ‘add to cart’. That will take you to another page (the one I linked) and you should get the pop up within 10-15 seconds.

If you’ve already ordered, I’m pretty sure they’re happy to cancel and you can re-order with the code. This is actually what I ended up doing :)

        Hope this helps!

        • +1

Thanks so much, that code worked for me! :D

I noticed I also had an offer come up at the cart page this time although I've been to the cart page several times without any offer, but it was 7% off orders over $1500 (code QHN4DVMQZ30X)

EDIT: Just noticed your edit too, thanks for your time/effort to help, really appreciate it :)

          • +1

@bcdk: Awesome! You’re more than welcome, glad it worked out.

        • I wonder if anyone has been successful asking to cancel an order and reorder and what you tell the customer service agent. Their policy for returns says this:

          1. Cancellation and Variation before Delivery
7.1) Unless otherwise provided, Orders cannot be cancelled or amended after the Order is placed. Please review your Order carefully.

I signed up today to say thanks for this post. I was looking for a laptop with a $1,000 budget for the next ten years university study and wanted something light, smaller than the 15.5", and a CPU that'd last well into the future. The 4800u looks amazing, and this laptop is exactly what I wanted.

I followed the instructions and clicked through CashRewards so the total price was $1,081 - almost a bullseye with my budget. Shipping has been reduced to 4-6 weeks.

If you don't get the cart 7% discount, try a browser without addons. I always keep Edge vanilla. I couldn't get the cart popup using Chrome and all my extensions. Even though there's a caveat, the 7% discount still works on the discounted price. Perhaps an oversight by Lenovo. Not bad: a $1,800 for $1,080.

Thanks again for this post. I'm really happy and looking forward to getting the laptop.

    • Did you use education store or the normal lenovo store? I had a look at cashrewards terms and conditions and it says "Purchases made through Lenovo's student store, staff discounts, corporate deals, and negotiated offers (phone/email/chat) are ineligible for cashback."

      • +1

Both cash rewards and shopback has that condition. I used shopback and mine still tracked

  • Cashrewards have increased cashback to 8.5%. Not sure when it started, or ends, but it helps

    • +1

      For ideapad, it's only 4.6%

      • Good to know! Worth checking the details
