For anyone looking to integrate with home assistant etc just beware the wifi ones may be harder to capture traffic from than the RF based ones which just require a tv stick.
YMMV so obviously check the forums if that’s your game.

can you point me in the direction of the forums that help capture the data, cheers in advance :)

Try using WEEWX and look for input methods from there

        • Exactly what I was looking for, thanks for that!

    • I have had my wifi running without issues for over 6 months.
Just use the Ecowitt HA Integrations, its easy and stable.

    • Can you explain what if any automation tasks you can do with a weather station? I've been trying to think of use cases

      • Mainly just publish data?
But assuming you have a sprinkler you could have it NOT turn on if it’s raining…
Anything you can think of that’s useful I guess

      • Local rainfall, will decide if I water my garden,
Outside temp vs inside will determine if i run fans or AC
There are heaps of things you can use the data for. You could close blinds or awnings with strong winds.
Really depends on what you need

      • Lights controlled based on solar radiation.
Weekly rain rate useful for garden watering.
Also just good to have local temps/humidity to show on your UI.

  • These still use RF to transfer data from the outdoor sensor. Wifi is used to upload data to online services.

    Kind of a useless item.

    Location: Australia.
    Weather: ****ed

It does look kinda cool. I wonder if you could work out the individual sensor modules without taking the whole thing apart.

  • It looks huuuuge on that photoshopped roof pic

  • Love the photo of it mounted to a roof in the ad, can’t even show a real world example of it installed…

  • How often does this read the wind?

    • About every 16 seconds

      • -1

Hmm, not frequently enough to catch accurate gust readings.
        Thanks for letting me know.

        • Sorry i thought you meant how often it sent the information to the display.
All the book says is that wind speed is defined as the average wind speed in the 16 second update period and wind gust is defined as the peak wind speed in the 16 second update period.

  • I bought mine for about $135 during the black Friday sale
