      lol

    • +28

I am not calm when see that rrp.

    • +8

Don't know if its just me… but paying $95 for "meditation" is likely going to give me more anxiety

  • +2

    The AUS price is A$219.99.

    • +2

With the current 60% off promo without using a VPN.

  • +8

    Doesn't excite me

  • +11

Also 1 more day left on the 1 year free, I don't think you even need an Amex, so try it out first.

    • +5

I tried with a non-amex and it failed verification

      • +1

        Ok thanks for checking.

  • +4

Just did this and worked perfectly. Big Calm users in our house so $95 for a lifetime is great considering I previously paid the $80something for a year. Thanks!

    • +3

What are the best features and why?

      • +58

Hey, I totally appreciate that some people don't see the value in paying for meditation apps like Calm and Headspace. As per the Calm site, the premium features are as follows:

        • An original Daily Calm everyday
        • Hours of guided meditations covering sleep, anxiety, stress, gratitude and much more
        • Entire library of more than 120 Sleep Stories, with new stories added every week
        • Exclusive music tracks for Focus, Relaxation, and Sleep
        • Masterclasses featuring world-renowned mindfulness experts

So for me personally (and everyone's use case is different), I get the benefits because:
1 - Sharing the login with my wife
2 - I do the "original Daily Calm" each morning
3 - I use the guided meditations depending on what's going on in my life and appreciate the 7 day courses
4 - My wife is a shift working and she LOVES the sleep stories, they really help her relax and sleep when trying to sleep during the day.
5 - I use the music tracks while stretching or even just trying to focus on something where I don't want music but also done won't silence either.

FYI - for anyone who has an Apple TV and doesn't want to pay, I have found there is a lot of "premium" type content on the TV version of the app (no user log in). Meditation using the TV doesn't suit me however.

My final comment is that I started dabbling in meditation/mindfulness in 2019 and was seeing benefits, but 2020 has been particularly difficult for my wife and I, so doubling down on mindful practices has been a saving grace. It will be something that I can see myself doing going forward in my life.

Hope this helps anyone out there :)

        • Does the login work concurrently?

        • -2

Sharing the login with wife…..that's a no no….very risky….possibly fatal

        • +1

What’s the main benefit of this over headspace? Are there any key differences between the services that makes one more worthwhile than the other?

      • +3

They have this thing called "daily calm", so once you completed the program you want to do, there's actually still something new every day. It is not a pure meditation app. For example, their daily calm is sorta a combination of meditation and a bit of CBT.

I also really liked their beginner's course feat. Jeff Warren. It's a great way to get started. It's got a watch app as well on iOS, you can use it for mindful walks and stuff, which I personally quite like. You can always just try them out first to see if it suits you. There are always free alternatives, of course. To me, I like the way they present things and it makes me want to use it more, so it's something worth paying for since it does a pretty good job maintaining my mental health.

        • Sold.

  • +3

damn it. Paid $220 already…oh well, I do enjoy the app at least. good find!

  • +5

Thanks OP! I was in two minds with still through to Sept free via AMEX and then another year for 50% off but I bit the bullet as I don't think this will happen often.

I'm a daily listener of the "Daily Calm" in the morning and the new "Daily Trip" in the afternoon. Am currently on an 118 day streak hence a habit has well and truly been formed. I also enjoy "The Spark" series. I share the log on with my 9 and 11 year old kids who started doing mindfulness during online learning, Melburnian here, and enjoy listening to "Sleep Stories" while drifting off to sleep. Haven't dabbled in the "Masterclass" series yet but intend to in the future. $95 for life is a steal in my eyes! :)

    • I am also on the AMEX 1 year trial which expires in Aug 2021. Did you sign up this lifetime deal with a different email address? Did you cancel your trial and sign up this lifetime deal with the same email address used for your AMEX trial? If using the same email address for this, will there be an issue given they know you had an AUS account previously and now signing up to a Turkey account?

      • +1

Nope, same account. Didn't cancel anything either. No one will be monitoring it, much like signing up to Netflix Turkey, once you're in that's it. Besides, I could've moved to Turkey. ;)

  • Once you've signed up do you still need to use vpn each time you login/use the app?

    • +3

No. I signed up on my laptop using a VPN, app is on my phone without a VPN and shows I have a lifetime subscription and works just fine.

      • Perfect, thanks heaps.

  • Is this better or headspace?

    • +1

I would think it's mainly a personal preference, I always loved Headspace as I like the voice of Andy and the daily meditations. I tried Calm once or twice but just didn't enjoy it. But quite interested in hearing other people's thoughts as I'm currently on a free one year Balance plan (COVID deal ending in march 2021 I reckon), and will probably consider signing up for Headspace again after.

Balance is quite interesting as well as it sort of asks you a lot of questions re goals, experience and how you feel currently, and will then change the meditation sessions based on that. It's pretty cool when they say something like: "welcome back to this one, it's been a while so we'll add some more guidance again as I know you prefer this, you also mentioned you had trouble concentrating lately so will do this…."

But I still prefer Headspace for some reason.

    • +1

I was an avid headspace user and subscribed to both concurrently for about a year. I ended my Headspace subscription about 10 months ago if that's anything to go by.

    • I would recommend the Sam Harris app Waking Up. From the reviews I've seen its considered much better than calm and headspace, but it isn't as well known.

If you send an email to his team they will give you a free year. It's for people who can't afford a subscription. It shows the character and care he has put into the app and his supporters.

  • Anyone else get an error saying it couldn't charge your card?

    • +1

Yes, got that message on 3 x cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex).

Update: Worked. Re-connected the VPN and typed in the card name EXACTLY as on the card. Not sure which of those fixed it, but it's OK now.

      • Which VPN did you use?

        • NordVPN

      • Did you type the MR/MRS/MS/MISS part of your name on the credit card?

    • Yep me. Did you find any way around this?

  • $95??

  • Thanks, Amex works!

  • +3

What if the company goes bust? Nowadays, even lifetime membership are not guaranteed as many companies are going bust.

    • +5

Look Calm just received a massive funding round… and their valuation is now 2 billion. Pretty safe to say that they'll be around for at least another 2 years in which the lifetime price here ($95) will still be cheap compared to paying normal rates for the Calm App for 2 years.

  • +10

As someone who usees calm every day (currently on a 231 day streak), also my wife uses semi-regularly and all 3 of my kids use the sleep stories every night, I am stoked with this deal (it worked for me). Even signed up to Ozbargain to leave this comment, that's how stoked I am! haha…

    EDIT: $95.85 using CommBank

    • Made this ozb account to find out 1)what vpn can be easily used to get it and 2)do you need VPN for future use or just the payment?

      • +1

Windscribe is free and includes Turkey

        • +1

Thanks mate. Got it with windacribe and combank. Have to input name exactly as per card (including MR/MRS) etc etc

    • What do your kids listen to the sleep stories on? Like which device?

      • We just have some old phones around the house. They use those for sleep stories from Calm (logged into my account)

    • Hey mate

      Quick question
I just purchased the lifetime subscription.

I wish to share the account with my wife. On my phone, and my wife's phone.

Do I just share the login information i.e my username and password with her, or can I let her "branch" off my membership by using her own email address?

I prefer option 2 as we would like to compare our streaks with each other and challenge one another !

      • +1

AFAIK you have to share the same login, unfortunately.

  • +1

Thanks OP, $95.88 using UP Bank.

  • +2

So using a VPN is only to get the cheaper payment? Then you can use that Aus version of the app on any device after?

    • Have the same question… Also any free/trial VPNs that can be recommended here?

    • +1

Correct! You need VPN just for the one-time payment and then you can use your account in Australia with peace of mind.

  • +1

Perfect timing, my annual subscription was about to expire. It's well worth the money

  • +2

Many thanks OP. Looking forward to a better 2021.

  • Having problems purchasing this. Tried with ANZ and then HSBC
    Using nord von turkey
    Any tips

    • I've also been having problems with this with NordVPN (phone, computer app, chrome app). Tried multiple cards now including amex, anz, ing, commbank, stgeorge, coles mastercard. Maybe it is no longer working…

  • +1

Be careful with this. I put an order through using NordVPN - showed 531.99 Turkish Lira on my order screen. After rejecting my two credit cards about five times, it eventually charged me 220 AUD…

    • Didn't have any issues with NordVPN, payment was done instant, purchased with my AMEX.

      • +1

How long ago was this? Which turkey server did you use?

        • About 25 minutes ago, I just connected to Turkey - Fastest. The order page was quoted in Turkish Lira but looks like it didn't go through as such.

Somehow the website realised it should charge in AUD (I used my pre-existing Calm account which is registered to my Australian email address - maybe that could be why?)

        • +2

I purchased at 1:54pm today, never had an account. Just clicked fastest connection to Turkey, opened the link from deal, made a new account, put my AMEX details and done.

    • Ah. Ok Thank you :)
So are you meaning it charged you more than once or it charged you $220AUD¿

    • What did it say on your email receipt from calm?

    • Can you ask for a refund, I was charged 200 aud too. LOL, i need to refund this

  • +1

    Wow this is awesome!

    Thanks for sharing

My wife and I will share a login. For those that don't know how to get a VPN for free (Like me), use Express VPN from the Playstore. It gives you a 7 day free trial with no CC details required.

Nordvpn requires a purchase before the 7 day trial is granted.

Goodluck. It just worked on my ANZ CC and charged me $98.73. I hope there are no additional surcharges/overseas transaction charges!!!

Cheers - investing into my mental health!

    • Hmm how long ago did you do this? I tried your trick just then (express VPN + anz debit card)… and it still didn't process my card.

      • +2

About 10 seconds before I posted the comment

Per the above comments , make sure you type in your card details exactly how you see them

Also if it helps , I did this all on my phone

All up the process took 10 minutes. Including spending 5 minutes trying different VPNs which were not fit for purpose as they didn't offer a free 7 day trial.

It worked seamlessly for me. Anz credit card btw, not debit.

        • Interesting! No idea why it won't work for me then. I've tried multiple other credit cards with no avail with either ExpressVPN or NordVPN (computer and phone) now. Baffled. Thanks for trying to help.

          • +1

@ChrisRocksOK: Ok, update. I kept trying to get through. Eventually it accepted my payment. Express VPN/Turkey, eventually got through using a coles mastercard. Took about 40 goes. Looks like it worked, about $95 AUD charged, working on the app. Thanks all.

          • @ChrisRocksOK: Tried up bank and 28 degrees, doesnt seem to work with NordVPN

            • @flying18: Getflix worked fine with 28 degrees, perhaps try that!?

Cancel that, sorry, it's not part of the free trial! :(

  • +1

Thank you. I'm currently using the 1 year free with Amex. Have just purchased through PIA VPN. Bargain at ~$95.

  • Doesn't work, tried everything expect Amex.

  • Not working for me either. I tried a number of different cards. Nord and Express

    • +1

Sorry, was suggesting Getflix but VPN is part of the free trial.

      • +2

        Worked on Express finally.

      • Isn't even, you got my drift!

  • +1

Just did it through ExpressVPN free trial and got charged $95.88 through Commbank, thank you.

  • +1

Thanks OP. That's a good deal.

  • +1

    Thankyou, lifetime deals are amazing.

  • +3

No luck here. I’ve tried 8 different cards and all coming up saying I need to contact my issuer.

    • +2

      Same here.

      • same here no luck

        • as others have said - try a different vpn provider. foe me it worked with ghost vpn

  • -4

$550 will get me about 10 cases of beer - 4 cans in 1hr = guaranteed goodnight sleep

    • +1

It's $95, so it will get you 2 cases? So 12 nights of sleep and a drinking problem, if you don't already have one.

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

  • Been trying, no luck as I get the error message "There was an error charging your card. Please contact your card issuer for more information"
But now all my multiple attempts are showing up on the card as "PENDING - CALM COM INC SAN FRANCISCO CA" there is no value attached to them and account is still trial.

    Should I now be concerned?

    Thanks

    • I had the same issue, was trying to do it with Hola.

Then per the other suggestions I tried Cyber Ghost VPN (1 day free trial) and then worked!

  • +2

It didn't work for me with VPN Unlimited but worked right away with CyberGhost. It wasnt the card for me but the VPN, for me anyway.

  • +2

Initially didn't work for me. I tried both NordVPN and CyberGhost VPN with a Macquarie Platinum debit card but no dice.

I tried one last time out of frustration and it worked! No idea what I did differently.

FWIW - CyberGhost VPN with Macquarie Platinum Debit was my winning combo.

    Thanks OP!

  • I received an amex offer for a year of this app for free. Check your amex offers…

    • I'm currently using this free year which has led me to purchase. It's the first guided meditation where he uses a few small different phrases and approaches which has made meditating "click" for me. ~$95 is a bargain.
