These are meant for EMPLOYEES ONLY

    quote from the website:

"As a Work Life NAB member, get great discounts on your energy all year round. "

    • Actually it's for "Work Life NAB member"
interestingly if you google this you not only find other discounts, you find that it's not just for NAB employee's, it's a benefits program available to companies.

      • -2

"Work Life NAB" are benefits available to all NAB employees and their subsidiary company's employees..

        • +1

No, it's a program available to any company that wishes to use it..

        • -1

It's available to all NAB Group employees and other Company employees who's Company has bought the Employee Benefits Program for their employees. Therefore, it is unavailable to the general public and should not be advertised in this forum.

"…..only open to Australian residents aged 18 years or over who are eligible for the Work Life NAB program through NAB and MLC…….".

        • Work Life NAB is not only for NAB employees. It's a benefits website run by NAB for a multitude of companies - I know Telstra utilise it for their employees.

this is useless unless your providing the per KWh etc rates… just because they have a discount on there standard rates doesnt make them cheaper?

    • +5

Correct, TRU Energy is one of the most expensive retailers.

  • just say you've had another company knock on your door and offer you a discount, they'll come to the party. Same as Austar, been with them 2 years, rang to cancel, they took $20 a month off, I continued to cancel, they took $40 a month off. Everything is negotiable

    • best to wait a few weeks until the companies publish their new rates, then you can compare and switch… there are a few comparison sites on the internet…

  • ANYONE can sign up to TRUenergy mates rates - just call up and ask. i've been on this plan for years.

you might find slightly cheaper elsewhere, but there's no lock-in plan here. also, don't compare current rates - since the energy companies adjust their rates at different times of the year, so cheapest now might not be the cheapest in a week/month etc.

ANYONE can sign up to TRUenergy mates rates - just call up and ask.

perhaps, but you can't just call up and pretend you are a member of a particular company and claim their benefits, that is dishonest…

      • +3

no - i meant you can just ask for mates rates - with no company/membership/affiliation needed.

dont bother with TruEnergy. When electricity n gase rates were deregulated they bumped up the price above the standard rate and then offered all sorts of discounts.

and also appalling service. We tried, but the buggered up the transfer (they notified our old provider, but didn't x-fer us across, so we got a "dear occupier" letter from the supplier asking us to pay. After 3 phone calls to fix it, I gave up and found Lumo. We used to get 9% off, then I asked for a betetr discount when we moved so now they give us 12%

Also people should compare the connection charge as the cheaper energy prices are usually offset by much higher connection chargers.

      • I've had similar experience in my last two moves. I thought that the first was an unfortunate mixed-up but when it happened the second time I knew they were careless or clueless or both.

    • +1

Agree - Also Tru has the worst customer service for a utility I have ever experienced. I had issues with my gas supply - they overcharged me - it took months to resolve. Would never use them again!
Although I moved to Perth where I can no longer choose my energy suppliers.. :(

  • We are with Lumo and pay about 16.7 c per kW after discount. Is your rate better?

A word of caution: Check your company new rates after New Year. Last year Lumo increased the rates and at the same time delayed charge for 3 months so we discovered this in April only.

    • seems similar to Dodo GD rates
      https://connectto.dodo.com/electricity/Documents/SP-AusNet.p…
i am seriously looking at moving from Origin now my contract is over.

      • i just spoke to a guy in energy watch, according to him, Lumo and Dodo change thier rates too often (i think 4 times a year) and it could range from being one of the cheapest to one of the the most expensive.
He also advised bad customer service too….

AGL's offer is currently about 19.09c per KW.
10% discount even if the payemnt is late.
$50 voucher to spend at thier AGL store per service connected to AGL.
They have a connection fee of $32 for electricity. (can be waived if you have a healthcare card or pension card)

        Downside… 24 month contract
Im thinking of taking this deal if anyone else has any other options.

PS. Origin at this time charges about 22c per KW (most expensive)

        • i am totally dubious of Dodo.
          dodgey broadband, etc
"Dodo electricity and gas" but they dont do gas?????

anyway a $20 contract break fee, not so bad.
i would save about $1000 a year on electricity if i swapped from Origin to Dodo at the current GD rates.

        • AGL 19.09 cents? included gst or not? I got letter from agl back in august that they increase the rate to be 22.5 cent included gst, and i switch to dodo last month, after discount and gst included only 17.5 cent kwh. and i got sign up bonus credit with dodo as well
i m in nsw, so may be other state got cheaper rate

  • Isnt this the same mob that's been in news recently regarding really long delays in installation and shody workmanship?

    • +1

i don't think the smart meters are installed and owned by the retailers, are they ???

    Crap deal.
I qualify for TruEnergy mates rates, and I took them up when I moved house 2 years ago. I left as soon as my contract expired.
The "mates" rates are about 3-5% higher than the standard rates for a 2 year contract from Energy Australia (I live in Sydney) and Origin Energy (the competative competitor). Irony is that Energy Australia is now owned by Tru, and I saved 5% by switching to them.
Other reasons not to recommend TruEnergy is that they don't accept Amex, and they don't allow you to pay via their web site (you have to use the antiquated phone system where you tap in all the numbers on your phone keypad which takes forever).
Also, they talk about a 'bonus 3% discount' if you pay on time. What this really means is that they slug you 3% extra if you DON'T pay on time. I considered taking this one to the law firms running the bank penalty fee cases at the moment. It was easier just to take my business elsewhere.
And when you do pay late, they refer you to their collections team, who work out of Bangalore and ring any time they like between 7PM and 11PM on a weeknight, and justify this because "they know you'll be at home at this time".
Avoid this company and this deal.

    • Sadly I haven't found a better deal than Energy Australia for myself yet (on the 7% off for 24months, they even gave me a $50 welcome card despite me having been with them for the last decade before)… I'm near Sydney too.

What you say about TRU is enough to keep me from testing them out. I've never had bad experiences with EA even once when finances were horrible and I got quite a way behind on payments. They gave me extension after extension with no rude calls, I just rang prior to bill dates explaining my problems and that was that. Thankfully I am on top of finances since then.

      • do you know who owns energy australia now…? one guess…

        • I do know, it was mentioned above. At the end of the day for me it's a case of the devil I know.

Thanks to the lack of competition and the structure of pricing of electricity in this country there is no real bargains to be had. I just ask for the discount every 24 months and save my little bit that way. Downside is the contract but I've been with them for over a decade now so whilst I'm here I may as well get the discount (crazy not to)
