50x Disposable Masks (3ply) $5.99 + Delivery ($0 with Prime/ $39 Spend) @ HomeWork& Play Amazon AU

1666

Came across these. Seems like a good deal.

They are shrink wrapped in packs of 10 which is nice rather than all loose packed in the box.

From a comment below:

Image on product shows the standard is: T/CTCA 7-2019

According to TGA's guidance(tga.gov.au):

Due to the lack of resistance to fluid penetration, masks designed to certain standards or subclasses of some standards (listed below), may not be suitable for use in medical or surgical settings.

These masks may still be appropriate for use in non-medical/healthcare settings to assist in reducing airborne disease transmission, along with social distancing measures.

This is about to get Gladys'd

By and send her a box with a message on there saying "hint hint"…

This is about to get Gladys'd

Is that a veiled reference to her secret boyfriend making a bucket load on mask sales?

  • ordered some

  • +13

12 cents each, if the quality isn't great for own use, still good to give away to people in settings where the other person doesn't have a mask on to reduce exposure for yourself.

So I will still be handing them out for maskless people to use.

      • +2

I received these masks today. The standard is actually GB/T32610-2016.

        It says:
"This product can not be used as a medical surgical mask"

The masks are 3 layered. I could not blow out a candle when wearing the mask, the flame did flicker. The outside is slightly waterproof, not very much. The elastic is strong enough to be used for the 4-5 hours duration the mask is good for, but it is pretty weak and a tug will break it off the mask.

This mask is good for handing out to the unmasked to increase protection to yourself. I would wear a better mask if available, and save the better ones for yourself.

    • -13

If the quality is not good for your personal use, DO NOT give to other people.

      • +22

        Why not?
If they are not wearing a mask in the first place, having them wear a single use mask (even if poor quality) is still better than letting them spread aerosol around.

      • +8

There is an old adage: "Something is better than nothing."

      • +1

        To avoid $200 fine, yes it is something;

To slow down a virus transmission, seriously this bad quality mask equals to nothing.

  • +1

    Gladys approved

    • +3

I don't remember approving her though.

      • +1

That's the beauty of a democracy :-) Enjoy other people's (profanity) ups.

  • +2

50 for 5.99?? Just how bad quality are these?.Oh well…

  • +1

Send the remaining masks to Gladys if you dont like the quality….

    • Ordered. Cheaper than the deal with COTD atm.

    • +2

Gladys needs a bed sheet for a mask

      • Just imagine her as Gonzo.

  • +1

like the whole hand sanister, people gambled and prob are stuck with stock. This just the normal price.

  • +23

I have these. Terrible quality, Elastic breaks off very easily.

    • +20

Everyone says that, but I've had no issues with any cheap masks I've bought, they all snap off if you're not gentle enough, especially when removing.

      • +6

These ones snap off before you put them on. Half of mine were broken/unusable before I even got to use them and just ended up in the bin. The quality of these ones specifically are legitimately terrible.

        • Mine were fine, quality control issue possibly.

        • +2

Is your head the normal head size ?

          • @popsiee: The size of my head doesn't affect the manufacturer's ability to remember to glue things together or avoid gluing masks to the packaging, but if you want to know my head is probably on the smaller side of normal

      • I have these. Terrible quality, Elastic breaks off very easily.

        • I got one from my friend. I tried for my second ear and an elastic was broken. I even didn't had a breath through the mask. Maybe it is from this seller. Otherwise the ones I bought never had an issue. This time I pass this deal by other's negative comments.

    • And the material is crap

      • Interesting new technology..

        • +1

Probably something to do with panic buying TP…

    • +1

I also have these. Terrible quality, Elastic breaks off very easily.

    • +1

Agreed. Was just going to post the same thing. You need to be extra gentle like you're holding a newborn with these masks.

  • I think this is a good buy, we aren't getting a vaccine before winter (in sufficient quantities) and cases will likely mimic what happened last year, though we should get on top of things quicker because of increased knowledge and plans of action.

    • +6

Yea, looking forward to the super spreader cricket test match..

      • Honestly me too. Popcorn ready.

      • There's always exceptions for sports…

        • Not at the cost of lives..

  • +12

Well, at least you can save $200 fine no matter how good/bad these are.

    • +7

Masks aren't required when running, so just start running if you see a revenue raiser.

      • +27

I tried to out run cops, it didn't work out well.

        • +1

Next time, you should have tried to out run cops on an Electric Scooter?

        • My bad, I was thinking American/Simpsons cops where they always have a donut in one hand

      • At least in Melbourne there is still a requirement to have one with you (even if not wearing it) so that might not fly.

    • +3

A face mask is not required when outdoors.

      • +1

that's just the current rule now.

imagine, if/when masks become mandatory everywhere,
the price of masks will only go up then.

this virus is not going away, whether there is a vaccine or not.
besides, the vaccine is not the cure.
it's just to suppress symptoms for the person vaccinated.
the vaccine will still allow transmission of the virus to everyone.

so, in which case, mask wearing is going to be part of future life.

  • +2

I don't really care what it looks like as long as i have it on my face

    • -3

      the thinner the better.

  • I saw similar ones at Aldi selling the 10packs for $8.99. Glad I didn’t bite. I bought 2 boxes of these instead. These are meant to be single use/disposable so elastic quality won’t be much of a bummer even if the issue is real. On top of that, we don’t know how good are the ones sold elsewhere out there which are often overpriced.

    • +2

      Glad I didn’t bite

I am glad you didnt, these are meant to be put on, not bitten.

  • +2

Individually wrapped. Bought a pack. Good for leaving a few spares in the car, backpack etc

    • +8

      Wrapped in packs of 10.

  • Thanks Op ordered 1

    • +17

Tell us more about the Chinese mask factory you visited

  • +1

Better than a $200 fine for forgetting.. Thanks

  • +8

I have bought them before, extremely poor quality, super thin. I have already returned them for full refund. I will NEVER buy these poor quality masks again.

    • +2

Bought this a couple of months back and extremely poor quality and elastic is coming off from most of them.

  • +4

Seller has nearly 30% neg reviews in last 30 days…

  • +2

wastebasket stuffers. as if we don't have enough of these bottom quality masks on the ground around every corner already

get a couple of reusable cotton ones and wash them when required.

will be cheaper in the long run, too

    • This is cheaper than washable face masks.

      • washable face masks were 3 for 15 when I bought them in March. haven't spent a single extra cent on face masks since then

        • Did you disinfect the face masks between uses?

          • -3

@whooah1979: do you think these ones are disinfected?

what would you trust more to be attached to your face and be filtering your each and every breath: something that came from some random ass cheap factory or something that you bought from Bonds and knew what detergent you used to launder it?

            • @shabaka: Are you saying that you use laundry detergent as a disinfectant?

              • @whooah1979: no, I have disinfectant additives fot laundry

                however CDC says:

                "Using a washing machine
Include your mask with your regular laundry.
Use regular laundry detergent and the appropriate settings according to the fabric label."

                https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/coronavirus-disease...

here's World health organisation take on masks etc.

"Non-medical, fabric masks can be used by the general public under the age of 60 and who do not have underlying health conditions. "

they have other guidance on choosing and handling masks what's the point repeating it here

    • -1

Sure if you value your labour at nothing .

      • you do your laundry don't you? just throw them in, there's zero labour involved

also who cares about labour, it's environment I am concerned about

        • Never done any in my life hence my labour worth a lot more than that :)
          I know you won't get it .

          • @popsiee: so what? does it mean that you are automatically allowed to contribute to the pollution of our planet by using disposable masks? if everyone thought in terms of what anyone's labour is worth, we would most likely be extinct by now :)

I know you won't get it haha

            • @shabaka: It means he lives at home and his mum still does his laundry.

    • Everyone is different, but don’t under estimate how uncomfortable the disposable masks are and if you work indoors you may not be able to cope with disposables, I couldn’t

      • I have a pack of two dozen disposable ones provided by work half a year ago

tried one and yuck. haven't touched them since

      • I found the disposable ones easier to breathe through than fabric ones.

    • Reusable cotton ones are NOT effective towards real virus, read some papers…

      • so you think these are effective?

  • Terrible quality but its cheap

  • +1

Rubbish quality, you're better off walking with your nose under your TShirt for effectiveness.

There's a bunch of these laying near a kerb of my house, people toss them away after 1st use - terrible pollutant.

    • +1

These are just for not getting fined as they're useless anyway.
If someone is really concerned should buy N95 masks as a better option.
