Factor in their bs shipping fee of $75. They lower the price but make extra money off the so called shipping fee. So at $1150 shipped it's not cheap.

    • +4

correct. they do it so they can be the first when people googling.
and the OP fell for it obviously.

      • They have been doing it for so long. Should be a law against this misleading crap to game the system.

    1 YEAR AUSTRALIAN WARRANTY

    No

  • Does it haua Australian volte configured?

    • +2

No it doesn't . That's what turned me off buying it .

    • It's not just the phone that needs to be configured, the telco also needs to support the phone (IMS service provisioning).

Purchasing sony phone from becextechn is the best adventure you can do on start of 2021🤣

    • +4

After 2020, I dont need any adventurous rides in my life …

Im surprised Sony doesnt have a bigger market share in phones Xperia always seem to have one of the brttet build quality and battery lifes.

Does anyone know if this company is related to the onr that makes PlayStation?

    • Sony phones are popular in HK and Japanese market.

    • +17

Watch MĶBHD review the phone and explain this exact question.
      https://youtu.be/j7QwJ-M_GAI
Essentially great phone but Sony have no idea about how to market it.

      • +1

Great phones, great camera hardware but a massive disappointment in the camera software.
        Like… MASSIVE disappointment.

        • +1

Brutal, especially since Sony's camera division is up their at at the top.

        • +1

May i know you're disappointed massively? It's too complicated? What i gathered the colour tends to have green ish tint like the old sony camera? Let me know your 2 cents since I'm keen for this phone for the camera/software capability. Thanks

          • @Bargain-er: Most of the reviews out there will say the same thing.
The camera software is the biggest let down with the Sony phones.
It's not hard to use, it's just the way the software processes the images is terrible compared to say a Pixel, Galaxy or iPhone.

            • @SuiCid3: Thanks, any link for video about this? Thanks

              • @Bargain-er: https://www.dxomark.com/sony-xperia-1-camera-review-updated/

                One of many other reviews.

"Despite being packed with cutting-edge camera hardware, the Sony Xperia 1’s camera performance is surprisingly not quite on par with its competitors’ flagship devices. Its overall score of 91 points is more than 20 points behind the current leader, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G (113 points), and more in line with some older devices such as the Apple iPhone 8 (92), and with mid-rangers such as the Xiaomi Pocophone (91)."

The above comment can be applied to most of the Xperia range.
This isn't about pixel peeping, this is mostly due to whatever image processing the software use.

        • +2

Sad considering almost all top (for camera) phones have Sony sensors in them (Pixel 5 included)

          • @bindok: Exactly! They even use Zeiss lenses. How can their software algorithm be so bad?
Why can't they somehow port their Alpha software over to the Xperia? I'm sure they have the brains to do so, or even use the same team that works on the Alpha stuff to migrate it over.

        • I learnt my lesson with the Xperia Z1! It was 20 megapixel! But the software was the worst…

          • @maddoglee: Any link related to this problem? I can't find any "bad" reviews in term of image quality in youtube. I'm seriously considering this phone for the camera capabilities and 3.5mm earphone jack but still tossing. Thanks.

Sony need to do bit more than their marketing budget.Their after sales support is sux, their regular updates are sux for the flagship level. Apple/Samsung they deliver, even Huawei doing a better job.

      • When I think back about brands like Sony and Panasonic and other Japanese brands, they really didn't market their products very well even if they were making great products. They simply relied on their brand strength and imporantly, when Apple came along they didn't respond and adapt. Just kept on doing the same thing and wondered by their market share was diminishing every year. I think Samsung have probably been the only other electronic brand that has really challenged Apple on the marketing side which is why they are the top two brands in consumer electronics.

    • Sony's playing the feature leave-one-out game with their flagships.

Xperia 1 II: 60hz screen, wireless charging
Xperia 5 II: 120hz screen, no wireless charging

they also don't want to advertise like Apple/Samsung, so it's just a matter of time before they give up on their mobile division again.

      • 4k OLED 120 Hz doesn't exist, hence why the Xperia 1 II is limited to 60 Hz.

It does have a motion blur reduction feature that's supposed to emulate 90 Hz.

I'm using this phone now and I absolutely love it.

  • +1

I've been eyeing this phone for a while but read only I 5G band will be compatible. Will wait for pri ce to be under $ 1k delivered. Also read that colour science isn't as good but that's a bit subjective.

  • +14

Avoid this seller. They usually don't have the phones in stock and just list those. Once you pay, and follow up with them they may inform you that the phone is OOS and will be shipped soon, and then finally refund after holding your money for 15-20 days. Happened twice with me during last 6 months, so just sharing my experience.

    Anyone used these guys before?

    why not search here ?

  • +6

Cheaper at mymobile. 1118$ inc. delivery

  • +9

I have bought from them once. Terrible customer service. Avoid them.

    • Why did you need to contact them? Phone issue?

    • So tempted to buy from them, they seem to have the lowest prices for a lot of electronics. However, reading their reviews online keeps me away.

  • +1

    Kogan's price is $1207 delivered.

    • kogan is really horrible.

  • +1

Op just a note for yourself. Don't fall for the cheapest price on the internet, instead, try and pay a little more and buy from a big Aussie company instead, like jb hifi, dick smith, harvey norman, etc. At least you won't have any issues with warranty and customer service will be a better experience :) I am assuming you value after sales support BTW

    • +3

Slight issue with this one - none of those retailers sell it. If you're really keen, buy grey stock from an Australian bricks and mortar store - at least they provide some sort of warranty you can use. Source - purchased 2 handsets and 1 warranty claim sorted.

    • All, but not HN, most terrible customer service, same as it been 20 y.ego and recent my attempt to buy from them. Any purchace from them can end up that you find yours new washing machine, for example, is full of water, and CS try to foolish you that it is after normally tested in factory. They sold to me faulty return wm.
My new fridge was delivered without weels, and CS try to convicted me that I'm stupid, and said that will send technician for $200 to fix fridge. Then they find weels been in delivery truck, they forgotten it there.
My video camera was trying repaired during 1 year after 3 month using, and finally CS said that I dropped it and matherboard has crack and is damaged. So I'll have to pay for repairs. Thanks to advice from my friend, I made full video of my camera before give it to HN CS, so I can proove that camera is in ideal conditions, and it newer been dropped.
I boght cordless Panasonic phone and at home find that one handheld has faulty screen. Next day HN refused to take it back and tried incist to repair it. Mangers from HN hate you after getting your money.
Last 8 years I didn't make any purchase from HN.
I will not buy from HN anything. My friends has same experience from HN.
Fantastic CS is from JB HiFi, The GG. Buy from them.
      Avoid Harvey Norman.

      • agree. and also dick smith =Kogan which is horrible tooooooo

Cheaper with buybuybox.com, $1002~ AUD, even with shipping ($22)

    http://buybuybox.com/product.php?id=53856

Buybuybox delivers from HK, but aftersales help is radio silence.

Unrelated.. but beware of repair process with grey imports.

I did a booboo with a Sony Xperia 1 II, bought from buybuybox, broke the screen a few days after getting it (hairline crack, and the phone is REALLY slippery)
Mailed it back to a family friend in Hong Kong (Auspost cost $30~) and Amex's smartphone insurance cover covered the repair costs (90% of it) when I got it repaired with Sony HK's authorised repair center (no one in Aus had parts and could repair my phone locally)

Repair done, but the phone couldn't be mailed out by HK post (anything with any lithium battery gets rejected apparently), and if you want a courier to carry a phone for you, they won't do it for you as a once-off customer, must be a business class customer if you want to send something with a lithium battery, and will cost you $100~ (without discounts as a once-off customer)
Expensive Logistics nightmare trying to retrieve the phone.
Emailed Buybuybox multiple times, offered to compensate for their time and help to get my phone back into Sydney, radio silence.

Ended up choosing the snail mail option, another friend is returning from HK (stuck during covid) 2 months later and they'll hand carry it back instead.

Beware of trying to go directly to the manufacturer yourself to get things repaired in Hong Kong for grey imports yourself. The repair process is fine, but getting the phone back into your hands after is a nightmare.

Haven’t heard of Sony Xperia in a long time
    What happen to them?

    • +1

Abt to post the same question. I loved my Xperia U, would love to switch to Xperia again but afraid about warranty and repairs. They are nowhere to be seen

    • +2

They stopped selling Xperia phones in Australia.
      https://www.channelnews.com.au/sony-finally-admits-to-smartp….

      • Sony Mobile has been a disaster business in Australia for several years with consumers rejecting the Companies handsets because of poor design, and constant support problems. At one stage the Japanese Company was forced to fix hundreds of their Xperia handsets after the so-called waterproof devices leaked

  • Are there NO GCAM port for the Xperia's?
