I have a new unboxed Samsung A51 and in the past I have gone to my local phone store and paid them to install glass screen protectors, 3 times in total.
One of the three times they messed it up, so I do not have a heap of faith in them.
I have never installed one myself, I was wondering if you guys think it is easy enough for a novice like me to do?
Or if you think it is better to pay someone to get a great result, could you recommend a place in the Melbourne area?

Uhhh I wouldn't pay a cent. I've applied 10+ Nuglas screen protectors to various phones (including reapplying them whenever they crack/chip) over the years. No problems at all. It gets easier with a bit of practice.
I find with glass the bubbles don't appear as much as plastic but sometimes have edges lifted if the screen is curved.
My experience with Nuglas is terrible, they only have adhesive around the edge and come off easily. I'd recommend EFM for glass or hard plastic, and Ringke for plastic film.
Ebay to buy the protector, then youtube for the fitting. You can probably buy two or three for $30. The one I have is the double sided plastic and the only trick is to clean it well to start with. you can use extra stickers like this video to check the fit before the final application.

Didn't know about cleaning with iso back then… the one I had made the colours + contrast a bit better lol, so didn't care about dust underneath for a long time. Now I get one that is harder plastic that includes wipes etc.

Unless you live in a really dusty place and/or have a physical condition that will hinder your ability to put it on.
They're not that hard to apply. I've done all my phones and parents phones.
I am hopeless and screw them up. But the phone places in the shopping centres seem to apply them like magicians.

Some places have a machine where they can take all the bubbles out. In other circumstances, I would decline to have a screen protector placed on manually.
Tempered glass protectors are easier to apply than those crappy TPU protectors. Unless it is a curved screen…. I would not apply a glass protector to those unless it is from Whitestone Dome glass. Mainly cause those cheaper protectors are not very good and do not have a proper adhesive.
Just make sure not dust is on screen using the alcohol wipes, line it up properly and then when it is lined up place it onto the screen and use something like a credit card and the cloth to smooth out the bubbles.
In terms of brands I usually use Nuglas Tempered glass screen protectors or sometimes spigen.
Or buy 10x $1 ones then you can mess up as many times as you want :)
Exactly. Even decent screen protectors cost a few dollars, so if you mess up just try again with a new one!
Scam protectors are a scam. $1 screen protector = $40 screen protector. You're just getting more in the packaging but the screen protector itself is the same thing, costs them 5c to make lol
@[Deactivated]: +1 for installing your own $1 screen protector. I always get the cheapest I can find, I drop my phone a LOT and have never had any damage to my screen. I was horrifed when a colleague told me she had paid the Apple store $50 to put one on.
I noticed that if I have the case on, that helps apply the glass screen protector as it helps you line it up, no need to pay someone…
I’ve done quite a few iphone ones. You need to get the screen very clean, including all specks of dust. I, usually, use sticky tape to attach it on sideways and then pull the plastic off as you slide it onto the screen then use the “credit card” slider to remove the air bubbles. Do this gently or you will scratch the surface. The important thing is to line up any holes for camera etc. that is why you use sticky tape so it doesn’t move.
I'd pay for the peace of mind honestly and consider it a bargain.
For years, I ordered 2 or 3 online so that I have extras if I screw it up. If there were any imperfections, I ripped it off and did it again until it was perfect. I can get it right first time now. You can have as many guides/videos online, but all it takes is practice.
As others have said prep your phone beforehand. A little isopropyl alcohol on a lint free cloth, a little damp not wet, give it a good clean, use a new separate lint free cloth to buff it up/get any residual alcohol up; although it should evaporate off pretty quickly. Take your time line up the screen guard with your phone, taking into account camera cutouts, etc.
Key is to do it first time properly if possible, the more your pulling up, moving the guard the less likely you are to have good adhesion & will get air bubbles, dust on the adhesive side, etc.
I have replaced my screen guard, 4 times in six years & the only time it went poorly is when I fiddled around & was pulling it off & putting it back on to try & fit with a poorly fitted case. If you take your time & fit it cleanly first time round you should be fine. It seems tricky but it’s just a case of confidence & getting used to a process. Worth the trouble too, has saved me on a few occasions. Also might be worth having a second one, I had two to begin with & I think the psychological security of knowing if I screwed up I had another chance actually made it much less daunting first time round.

I have installed many screen protectors. You can definitely do it yourself. Just follow the instructions comes with it. Don't forget to clean the screen as much as possible.

yes, dust can be there, use a tempered glass not just a protector. they usually comes with a sealed alcohol wipe to clean the screen.
Buy a Poco X3 instead. Screen protector pre installed as standard. Brilliant phone.

Might be worth calling through to a Samsung store (there are four in Melbourne) to see if they can do this for you. Not a Samsung customer myself, but with Apple when I bought a screen protector, they applied it for free for me in store. There was an air bubble stuck in it the first time they applied it so they went and got another (at no additional cost) and applied it properly. I won't be doing it myself again now after this - hopefully the Samsung stores offer the same, particularly for your device, given the A51 it the top selling Android globally. https://www.samsung.com/au/samsungstore/

Personally, I would go for the new "GEL" flex type. Why put glass on glass?
What your looking for in a screen protector is protection and/or scratch resistance so you have 2 choices
1. soft gel type screen protectors and
2 Sapphire 9H Tempered glass
Type one; can be a pain to install but the gel surface tends to 'heal' and is great protection! Just make sure your screen is 99.999999% clean, then its a lot easier!
Type two; these are easy to install but you must have a 100% clean surface, anything under it will show up! The tape trick works but best to just make a real effort to get clean. Also these are cheap if 6H level protection is all you need (they lie, they are 6ish, 9 is near diamond and will cost more) but for $1-3 you can get one or more!
Apple use ONLY Belkin UltraGlass at around $50 and it has a dedicated in-strore machine to perfectly fit it, but Amazon sell 9H ones with basic applicators so its aligned for around $11 and up. One hint asside from GETTING THAT SCREEN DUST AND FINGERPRINT/OIL FREE is to have a thin sharp blade if you need to leaverage the ecreen up to remove an imperfection. A DE razor blade is perfect! In the supermarket section of the shaving gear, yes they still sell them! Other blades are too thick Ive found and take care to not scratch the screen when removing the glass to reseat or clean up!
MOST ebay screen protectors are OK but are not 9H diamond level, Chinese LIE with forked tounge listings and its worth getting a real 9H tempered glass one, trust me it is!

I bought an A50 a few months ago and it came with one pre-fitted. I bought a couple of spares but the original one is holding up very well.
it does! i did not realize though until i looked closely. I now have a quality glass one i ordered, but I am tempted to leave the standard plastic one on for now,

Dont they usually fit em free when you buy it off em? have for me in the past.
