I was searching for galaxy tab retailers when I found this..

Galaxy tab 10.1 16gb 3g rrp$729 being sold by vodafone for $15 plan +$50/mnth with 1.5gb every month for 12 mnths -$780

Or you can opt in for 24mnth contract -$15plan +$24/mnth with 1.5gb ($936)

USE THE CODE 100DEC TO GET $100 Credit on your first bill if you go for 24 months making it eventually $836 - Nice!! Also , You will get 2 year repair warranty if you go for 24 months.

Looks like a very good pricing for the tablet as 1.5gb data is pretty much enough for most people

You have to be quick as its a presale offer and delivery is guaranteed before christmas if you order by tomorrow or before it gets sold out.

So, Overall I can do the math here :
If I buy from Jbhifi ,good guys or harvey norman I am shelling $729 straightway whereas here I'm getting like a free no interest finance offer with required data over 12 months for only $50 more.. I reckon its great, What do you guys think ??

  • Can you make phone call with this one too? accepts SIM a card?

  • +1

I don't think you can make calls using carrier with any 10 inch tablet. Its only for data.

You can always use Tango ,fring ,skype and viber for calls using data provided

    • As I know the Optus Tab can make phone call with CM7 Rom installed. May be this one can if they have custom rom.

      • +3

You dont need CM7 for optus tab - phone dialling works out of the box.

  • +1

I make calls on my Optus My Tab (original Optus software) so I don't see why you couldn't on this one. Might look a bit funny though…………:-)

    • +5

Correct me if I am wrong, but I didnt think Honeycomb allows for the phone function, unlike Android 2.x, which is why you need Skype/Viber/Fring etc.

  • Question is. How's Vodaphone's network now? It used to be so patchy.

    • +1

A little better. Still not as good as Telstra, but coverage shouldn't be too bad if you've got a new tower im your area.

      • It's a little hard to compare any network with Telstra IMO. Premium price, but premium network coverage as well.

    • +3

My Optus MyTab loads content very quickly using a TPG SIM (Optus network) but runs at an absolute craaaaawwwwwlllllll when using a Vodafone SIM. I'd avoid VF like the plague. Maybe some areas are better than others, but in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney VF data speeds are awful.

      • Try Vodafone on 850mhz 3G. Most improvements are being made there.

  • +4

Not that great considering you'll be on the Voda. You can get the tablet outright for $615 from DWI and add in a 12GB 365 Telstra prepaid sim for $150. Comes out cheaper and you'll be on a much better 3G network.

    • +1

Or you can get 12months worth of woolies prepaid recharges. Around $90 gives you 5gb a month. :D

      • +2

Haha, can't see anyone using that much on a tablet unless you're Youtubing all day or something.

      • -1

Isnt woolies abandoning their SIM's sometime early next year?

        • I hope not. Where did you hear that?

  • +2

if i were you, i'd wait for the new asus transformer prime coming out this month. 1.3Ghz and 8mp rear camera. can't go wrong with that.

  • +3

Bought this tablet overseas a while ago and it's really good. It works way better than any other android tablet, despite being the same OS - Samsung has gone ahead and added their touchups.

Personally if Transformer Prime is going to be released in a weeks time I would probably wait for that to see what effects that will have on price. Your call =D.

  • Wifi model is $480 delivered on dwi

  • +1

I am not sure if you can get additional $100 discount with 100DEC code from http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59716

  • +1

The 100dec promo code (= $100 online credit) seems to work on these for the 24 month plans.

    • Can confirm works with promo, just got it..

  • +2

Well , I think this deal is more centric for people like who would prefer paying $65/mnth over 12 months instead of shelling out straightway around 700 bucks.

Sometimes, contracts aren't too bad and this is one of those.Transformer prime will only be wifi. Not really worried about transformer prime as its gonna take some while to reach australia.
Meanwhile,Having played with galaxy tab I must say it is super light and outshines almost all the android tablets but it depends on your preference.

I do know about tethering but I don't wanna go through the process of carrying wireless usb modem or setting up mobile everytime I wanna use it.

  • Pretty decent price, if you're after a contract.

Don't forget that if you already have a phone contract you can use your phone as a wifi hotspot for your tablet (or vice versa). I've somehow ended up with one phone and two tablets, and have one of the tablets set up as a hotspot because the phone contract doesn't include a lot of data. Once the phone comes off contract I'll be looking to rearrange this so I only need to one 3G connection that then serves as a hotspot for the other gadgets.

  • Does anyone know if you can turn this into a wifi hotspot? Like you can with some android phones.

    • Acer Iconia A501 can. So I believe this should be able to do the same.

      • Yes, it can do as well

        • cheers!
Anyone know if voda charge differently if its tethered data? I've read their T&Cs but am still unsure. Especially because this is not a phone plan but a data plan.

  • do you get a bundle discount if you phone is already with them, anyone know?

    • Yeah , you get 10% off monthly access fee every month if you are already on vodafone !!

      • can you verify this???

    • It was, by some means, the best tablet out there, then the Prime was released.

    • +1

Beats that crapola Sony S tablet hands down though eh? Also this is 16gb, same as the Phony S.

  • Might as well cancel my wireless internet and get this for the price.

  • What is the battery like on this & can you use it for pdf's & typing words doc's?

    • I would say battery will last 8+ hours if you use for surfing and games etc and you can utilise many office apps for viewing editing documents ,pdf ,excel ,etc. My favourite is quick office hd or smart office.

  • If you are already with Vodafone how can you get the $100 credit and the 10% for a new plan? Is it possible?

  • -6

Vodaphone network is quite bad plus this is not a bargain. This tablet is average at best, certainly not worth this price. Your better off getting Asus transformer for around $350 and use wifi hotspot on it. Much better value for money.

    • Really depends on where you live/work/play. For me in Melbourne CBD on a 850mhz phone their network is great. Not as good as telstra, but their stuff is so much cheaper.

      • He's just pissy that his PhonyS deal got slated and he got busted on his ghost account a few posts up, lol. Guess he won't be replying or spamming his buyers remorse for a day or two. Funny how he can't see that the Phony is average.
