Samsung Frame TV 32" $695, 43" $1095, 50" $1295, 55" $1595, 65" $1995 + Delivery/C&C @ JB Hi-Fi

710

With the announcements of the 2021 models at CES there are big discounts on the 2020 Samsung Frame TVs starting today across most retailers that sell them.

32inch (not 4k, only 1080p with 50Hz) - $695, down from $795
43inch - $1095, down from $1295
50inch - $1295, down from $1595
55inch - $1595, down from $1895
65inch - $1995, down from $2495

In case you were wondering, the 2021 models will be thinner (46% thinner in fact) and the 43inch will be rotatable like the 32inch 2020 version. I don't believe there are many other changes announced so far. No release date has been announced.

I see others like BingLee, Catch, Good Guys and Harvey Norman are also showing the same discounted prices.

There is a 4 month free trial available for the Samsung Art subscription too, but then is $6 a month. Or you can use your own uploaded art from your phone via their app or via a USB key.

Enjoy!

  • I don't own one, but been eyeing these for a while now. Check the user reviews on the 'One Clear Cable' boxes, as there seems to be stock issues in getting them, which I believe is one of the whole reasons of getting this TV.

    • +3

That's the longer 15m clear cable that's having issues.

The box comes with the TV, along with a short (2m?) cable.

      • Ah, thanks for confirming - wasn't aware of that. :)

    • As mentioned it comes with the cable. Probably 3m.

  • Any chance to price beat with competitors?

    • +3

"I see others like BingLee, Catch, Good Guys and Harvey Norman are also showing the same discounted prices."

      Any others?

  • Do these come with both the stand and no gap wall mount?

    • +1

      Slim Fit Wall-mount Included
The Frame comes included with Samsung's unique Slim Fit Wall-mount in the box, allowing you to hang your TV flush to the wall - just like a real picture frame so your TV looks like a natural work of art.*

*Measured from the rear of the TV, the gap may differ based on the installation and wall type.

      • Thanks. Yeah, I got that from Samsung's product page, but I can't find anything about the little stand feet. Nothing in the manual either.

I know using it with a stand will defeat the purpose, but I was considering this as a stopgap before 2021 TVs come out and can't be stuffed mounting it temporarily only to be moved and mounted again.

        • +1

Yes comes with stand feet - I’ve got the small 32 inch 2020 setup in my room on the feet

      • +4

Take caution with the mount. Almost always when I sell a frame tv I advise another mount as the one included frequently has issues with Australian stud spacing (apparently it's designed for American studs). Just a friendly heads up!

        • Do other mounts allow it to still be as close to the wall as the one included? Could you recommend a different mount?

          • @SaltNPupper: Not at work now but the ezymount $99 flat bracket sits around 30mm from the wall off the top of my head and should be a snug fit

        • There are 10 holes on the slim wall mount. I reckon if you mount a 65" (26kg) using at least 6 of those holes even to a dry wall (without studs) with toggle bolts you should be alright. As long as you dont go do pull ups hanging on the TV. Do 10 holes and you'll be set.

Since the slim mount doesn't extend put much, its mainly shear force on the mounts.

          • @jecec: That was my impression as well, but customers who have gone through multiple install agents have returned to say they're trash quality mounts. Your mileage may vary just giving out a little heads up!

            • @lemonliam: I actually had another mount that I purchase at Selby for $199.

I have to saw that the Samsung $199 is better in terms of the feel and quality. Also, the samsung one included 4 toggle bolt (although I recommend anyone to use as many bolt as they can. I used 10 - but 1 fell off behind the wall).

Perhaps the installers thought that the Samsung slim mount could not extend out from the wall at all. In which case, if you were installing a TV without the One Clear Cable, then it will be a pain (probably impossible) to use the Samsung slim mount and have the cables connected.

          • @jecec:

. As long as you dont go do pull ups hanging on the TV. Do 10 holes and you'll be set.

Well that kind of makes it lose a key feature of the TV don't you think?

            • @serpserpserp: That's true. I might download the virtual dartboard app on the TV too!

        • Hey @lemonliam, I need to install a 50” TV over a fully integrated bookcase (so the final position will be 30cm in front of the wall plate): Have you got any recommended mounts that would do the job and be suitable for The Frame? It would be great if I could then still move the TV forward (or to the side) to store consoles/games/etc

          • +1

@T-Quizzle: You'd be looking at a full motion mount that comes out at least 30cm from the wall. As long as it's rated for the size and weight of the tv it should be fine. If you're going through JB we've got the mid range ezymount range which should do the trick, set you back around $200ish for the mount

        • Just use the included toggle screw mounts that are included. Should be enough to hold the weight in plaster provided you can still screw into at least one stud

    • -4

      Only wall mount

      • Do you have one? RussoFC says their 32" came with feet, so I'm wondering if it could be a size thing.

      • There's feet in the photo

      • Disregard; already covered lower. I should read further before replying!

    • +1

yes it does, i got one in december (50")

      • +1

Sorry I stand corrected. I thought the question was about the 3 feet stand. Apologies again. It does have the small stands as in picture. I have 65 inch one.

        • +2

          You stand corrected

  • +10

I have the 2020 65 inch frame and i really do like it.

It gets negative reviews/comments on home theatre forums for panel quality and sound but its not what the telly is about. For me 4k.picture quality and sound in a large minimalist room is great.

With a good install tv is flush to wall, with no cables.

My tv has a hdmi 2.1 port(not sure of variances of hdmi 2.1 etc).

Ironically the art function is pretty basic more designed to up sell a subscription. You cannot set your uploaded images to shuffle so slide shows always are in the same order starting with same image.

    Overall would reccomened the tv.

We brought the well overpriced surround as well, tv looks amazing.

    • Thanks for the in depth review/reply, much appreciated.

Really disappointing they couldn't put in a simple shuffle to the pictures though! Windows 95 had a shuffle screen saver, not entirely sure why Samsung can't work it out.
Or is it a 'paid subscription' thing?

Really hoping the newer models have it, as the main purpose of this tv is to make it look like a picture. Being able to choose how those pictures are displayed is a big deal for me.

  • +1

Prices at JB are good, some cheaper than EPP and some more expensive. But roughly the same overall.
I have the 43", I think it is the slightly older model but I find it pretty good. Don't use it much as a TV though, mostly just as a photo frame.

    • +7

Must be some very good photos

      • +2

Was the way to convince my wife not to fork out $550 to print and frame a single professional photo and instead buy the digitals from the photographer and get a Frame TV 😁

        • $550 for a print and frame!?!?

          I'll take a TV pls.

        • and instead buy the digitals from the photographer

Shame that probably cost you $400 :)

  • +4

I had the 2020 50" and I returned it. If you're not viewing straight on from the middle, you won't be happy with the picture quality. The off-axis viewing is terrible. I was actually viewing from the middle and as soon as I slightly move my head to the side, the blacks become grey.

I'd rather get the Sony x9000h or x9500h for LCDs or an LG OLED which I've switched to.

  • -2

Looks to me like an overpriced gimmick. One can put a frame like this around any TV. No surprise they didn't sell.

    • +4

I’d doesn’t actually have that white frame around it. That’s just how that piece of art is rendered.
The gimmick is that when it’s not in use, the screensaver shows a bunch of famous artworks with the frame so it looks pretty.

We got these for our work Zoom rooms and they’re nice for that. Fancy art on the wall works perfectly for that use case.

      • Lol, thanks for educating me. That is actually quite a nice idea, but the price is a bit too much, still. I'll do some research, really curious to find out the energy use when didn't l showing art.

Mind you, I use Google Chromecast to have my own photos slideshows occasionally. That's quite nice too.

        • +1

Fwiw From what I read the power usage is about a third of normal use when in art mode

      • The gimmick is that when it’s not in use, the screensaver shows a bunch of famous artworks with the frame so it looks pretty.

So just like the LG OLED.

  • +1

If you're only interested in it as a TV it's not quite there. Only very slighly cheaper than the Q70T line at full price which is the equivalent TV without the frame thing. The Q70T goes on sale for much cheaper. Even the Q80T sometimes

  • What is the current best LG OLED model around?

  • Is there an updated (cheaper) price on the Enterprise Samsung Store?

They are typically priced cheaper than retail so would have been around this price through a Corporate portal.

Edit: Looks like the only ‘bump’ to the 2021 model is reducing thickness. PQ still lacking …. disappointing.

  • +1

Selected / Tuned 2D artworks look suprisingly good in this.

For steady content, its soft brightness blends in with room lighting and it feels like it is reflecting light, not emitting.

Not sure how untuned iPhone photo would be shown better on this than any other standard 4K TV.

Something I would love to have but honestly think it is just a way too expensive photo frame as I don't see myself using it as a TV.

  • I'm wondering if the Samsung store will reduce their prices

  • Have they removed the advert from the menu in the new Samsung TVs?
I'm guessing they will be advert free until a software update adds it after purchase.

  • does anybody know what the current pricing for 75" is on Samsung EPP?

    • +4

Prices as of 11:30am (Education Portal):
      32": $689.25
      43": $1199.25
      50": $1656.65
      55": $1724.25
      65": $2361.75
      75": $3899.00

      • +1

thanks! damn that's way more than what's been posted on this deal!

  • Is this better than the Hisense s8 and the Samsung tu8000? I'm looking to spend up to $1000 for a new 4k hdr tv. Any help is appreciated.

    • sorry to say you missed the xmas specials when JB was selling hisense s8 for $1.4k…they are now back at full price.
Even the 65Q7 was selling only for $1.1k

    • Do not buy hisense if you are fussy about lip sync.

    • +1

Like everyone in this thread has been saying if you want the TV and don't care about the frame there are better options.

  • Have been eyeing this for a while! How is the software experience on these? I currently have Sony which has Android TV and love the convenience of having android especially for using vpn etc..

    • +1

We have a Sony with Android, Sister has Samsung with their software.
I find the software on the Samsung terribly slow, and confusing for me, also seems to have advertising or them pushing apps.

Android will have a heap more apps if that’s what you want, no idea if Samsung will have a VPN, took them ages to get Kayo.

      • Thanks! If only sony had frames!

        • I guess. That’s not something I would want really.

  • It is all speculation at this stage, but I am betting on 2020 model, 65 inch and 75 inch has a dual led backlight, compared to edge lit. This TV is known for overpriced, not so good quality panel for the price, bit dim.

So if Samsung choose edge lit for the sake of thinner design of 2021 models, then my preference would be 65+ 2020 models.

  • I've got a 43 which I use as a PC monitor. Just on the cusp of being too big but I like it. I much preferred my OLED C9 for picture quality but you'd be paying at least double the price for the 48". My minor gripe is that there's only a few art images included for free and the rest you need to get via the ongoing subscription

    • not considering to upload your own art? I believe the images have to be exactly 16x9 (and maybe even proper 4k 16x9 res) for them to be available to put the matt on them, but they should work just as well.

      • +1

Will have to give that a try some time. I think it just bugged me that it says "thousands of art images" on the box without an * indicating its a paid sub. Again, minor gripe though.

        • from the video's I saw you can use the mobile app or a USB key to get them there then you need to go into each one and apply the matt and stuff.. it seems a bit clunky to be honest, but probably worth it if done properly.

  • I wish JB would stock the full range, or at least offer the 75" as a special order option. Any idea why they have access to distribute models but don't even offer it as an option to customers?

  • +2

32” inch would have been attractive if it were 4K. Unfortunately only 1080p.

    • yeah only 50hz too

    • +1

It also doesn’t come with the clear cable. I had one.

  • So what colour frame does it come with?

And does anyone have any experience with these in a bright room?

    • +3

The black frame/bezel is what it comes with. Mine is getting delivered today to a fairly bright room so I will let you know about the brightness

      • That'd be great, thanks!

      • Hey, what's the verdict?

        • +1

its somewhere in the middle in regards to glossiness. I've seen TV's with glossier finishes on the screens and ones with more of a matt finish. With the ability to angle it, even with the included wallmount, this can be easily remedied if there is a light reflecting off it. The brightness and contrast is very good IMO, but best to check the rtings review for objective results. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/the-frame-2020

I was concerned with the poor viewing angle measurements in that review but it isn't a problem for me at all viewing it on an almost 45 degree angle.

Hope it works out for you!

  • FYI the 32 inch was $595 during Black Friday sales

  • +3

If anyone is reading this and cursing the universe because they just bought one before it went on sale (uh hum like me), call up the store or put in a ticket online with them and they are happy to credit the difference.

    • You can even walk into the store to sort it! I was fairly surpised my local hn refund the difference, 2 week after I picked it up. The lady was saying 7 days return policy etc etc but in the end she accepted. :)

  • What is the turn on sensor like at night time? I'm thinking of getting one for the bedroom and was wondering if I'd need to actually turn the tv off at night as the sensor might see me move in the dark and turn the tv on. Or will it only turn on if the room is bright and sees a movement???

    • Pretty sure you can set a night mode so it doesn't auto turn on with the sensor. Or just install Smartthings on your phone and set a routine or automation

  • +1

LCD tv’s are in for major price drops this year of the order of 50% - 65” <AU$1000 for top of the line QLED fancy backlighting HDR and the average will be 500-600

The price of panels and massive supply is slated for mid year so the price drops will be massive and fast!

75-100” is the new $2-5k market they will be targeting with micro this, quantum that & OLED

Just be aware, already TV here is twice the price of the US (they try to confuse us with different model numbers) but Hisenses top tv is <$1000AU but seeks here for well over twice that! It’s just price gouging!

Best deal is the 75” 8k TCL for $3800ish with scaling and hdmi 2.1 on the high end $500 cheaper than the LG and you get Android!

And, Google screensaver, free art! If you don’t mind the little extra power bill!

LG use ips displays, they have wider viewing angle’s than Samsung but Samsung LCD have a better straight on picture but both lock you into their idea of a smart TV. Android is better - period!

8k is great, even without native content, upscale 4K is better on an 8k tv! 8k 75+ is worth it on the sub$4000 end but expect prices here too to drop to sub 3’s this year too

OLED needs to compete, new micro/greyscale 12bit lighting for QLED makes these 2021 worthy of a look see! So expect this overpriced OLED process to be 10% more or on par of on sale!

Also hdmi 2.1 8k 120hz & screen refresh to match but be aware most consoles are happy with 4K 60hz and every TV does that these days

    • best deal is to go 8k as they have the best baclighting/dimming and processing with latest tech!
      @www.appliancecentral.com.au/75x915-tcl-75-inch-qled-8k-android-tv/

    • Does LG make an IPS model that is thin like this Samsung and so would suit a subtle wall mount? I've seen the OLED models that look very nice but hard to justify the price.

      • you know its cheaper to mod the wall then buy the TV… to have the perfect fit

also, think projector for >75" for a darker room too

  • I just wanted to hang artwork on the wall

    • thanks link in OP updated

  • +7

I actually own this TV - the 65" version. ..buy a tv that does what YOU want.. for me this hit most points for what my use was.

    My thoughts:
    1. Flush mount - Included no gap mount works well, you get it really close but due to the way it is, its not fully flush, might be off 5mm up the top.

    1. One Connect box - This makes wall installation super useful and because I have built in cabinets to hide all my devices, this was a big selling point. If you wanted to have nothing under your TV, then this probably isnt the way to go…

    2. 4k/120 - I have a 3080/PC and this TV looks amazing playing games etc.

    3. eARC with sound bar - I control everything, including Foxtel, Samsung sound bar, all through the TV remote. One cable between all..Super helpful.

    4. aesthetic - I wanted something that hangs up on the wall and could possibly do the art thing - I also bought the extra white frame - You can load your own images onto the TV. The night mode/motion works well and will turn it self off at night, etc. - To be honest, don't use that art mode as much as rather just turn it off. There is also AMBIENT mode which can show weather, and few other bits and pieces. this is also on other Samsung tv's I believe. The art thing with a subscription fee isn't exactly worthwhile if you can load your own.

    5. Viewing angle - Its not AMAZING, but with my narrow ish (4m wide) lounge room i don't really notice it off angle too much - It is there, but not that apparent.

    6. reflections - Huge window on right side of room - this vs my old plasma cut down on reflections a LOT.

    7. Built in apps/stuff - Plex, Netflix, Foxtel Go, etc. - All fairly standard these days I'd say. Also supports Airplay and you can mirror apple devices out of the box. I got rid of all these extra devices which was nice (Apple TV, Chromecast, etc.) - That said looking to add a nVidia shield for 4K/Atmos stuff…

Also, a friend has a Q90 and hates the local dimming GRID issue - Since this doesnt have local dimming, no such issue..also no burn in issues etc either.

The LG GX would be the equivalent, but didn't really want to fork out 2x-2.5x the price for an OLED. Very happy with this TV and the quality of image it produces.

Even though I never use the built in speakers - They do sound pretty decent actually. A big step up from TVs 5 years ago I must say.

I paid $2600 for this maybe 3-4 months ago - But oh well, I'm still super happy with how it all turned out.

    • Solution is rtings suggest to disable contrast enhancer. SDR is HDR without the blooming in gaming mode. Q90 is fine, but it suffers like most TVs with an abundance of options that ignorant peers like to all turn on or don’t know to turn off out of the box.

    • Does the poor viewing angle ruin the painting effect when viewing from the side (don't care about TV mode from the sides)? And in low light (no lights turned on), does the picture glow or look like a real painting?

Considering one or two for my place.

      • Well at night it looks like a screen thats on…so…glows I guess?

and as for viewing for the side painting..well i guess if you go on an extreme angle like a hallway, probably yes..

    • I just unboxed my 65" yesterday. How's your backlight/black uniformity? Any bleed?

Also, I'm noticing the edges, about a cm in are slightly dimmer than the rest of the screen, any issues with your panel?

  • Sorry for the lazyweb question, but perhaps someone might know. Are there any deals out there for the bezels (clip-on frame bits) for these clearance models?

    • You could talk into HN, I had it at $131 for 65 inch one, not a great price yet. I foresee if you wait enough, you would find a deal as the new 2021 would have different measurements for those frame accessories. Some store will try clear it when 2021 model being released
