for only $11 more than the Instax Mini 11.

Yea, but the film costs almost double. A better comparison would be the SQ1.

    • Not if you get it from Dick Smith :)

The square film will cost about ~30% more than the mini, but I do like they way it presents the image.

  • Can somebody tell how it compares to the OG polaroids and Polaroid cameras?

My experience with different Instax cameras and formats (mini, wide) is that it's hard to get a good quality pic. I mean the light, contrast, sharpness. I know they're mostly toys and the format is generally limiting, but I've seen some really good arty polaroids.

I can see it's going to be hard to get films cheaper than ~$1.35/sheet see below, while for mini I used to get them below $0.80/sheet.

    edit:

40 sheets for $47 delivered with club catch, $1.175/sheet.
40 for $46.71 at digidirect, not sure about delivery
    20 for $22 at Dick's + delivery, $1.10/sheet

Instax wreck Polaroids in all aspects except for that truly vintage look.

Unfortunately, Polaroid as a company are too small, they can't match Fuji's economy of scales and they end up being $3.50 a shot.

Given that you can't get OG Polaroid stuff anymore (the Polaroid brand and some of their manufacturing gear was bought by the Impossible who are now releasing stuff under the Polaroid name).

Instax camera's are generally a bit more flimsy and arcadey. Instax film on the other hand is sharper and holds more contrast, develops faster (you also don't shake instax film) and is cheaper. If you can find instax camera's with an actual glass lens then you can get good results. I have one of the lomography instax camera's and the images out of that are surprisingly good.

I haven't tried the new Polaroid stuff but in comparison the OG Polaroid's gave a more vintage looking photo if that's your thing, but the Instax film is technically better.

      • I used to have a version of Lomo'Instant. Boy, was it crap; hardly ever in focus and underperforming flash. I preferred Instax Mini 11.

        Thanks for all the info.

edit: And I've just found this Polaroid vs different Instaxes comparison and I only now I see how tiny the square Instax is. I'll pass..

  • Would you guys recommend this or the Instax Mini? Thanks
