Was looking for a modem only package. Good reviews and half the price of the competition.

I paid $9.90 for delivery. There's a 1% Paypal surcharge as well so my order came to $29.19

  • ADSL2+ - ouch.. I guess there are still people out there without NBN?

    • I saw this previously, was wondering if it supported vdsl as a backup modem

    • Yup, how bad NBN's rollout has been handled is still a hot topic in 2021 ;)

      • I've got clients Church street Parramatta still cannot get NBN
Liberals are knob heads.. now they are doing to same with Fibre to the node vaccine
The AstraZeneca isnt going to cut it. Need the moderna or Phyzer

        • You mean Pfizer who appears at the moment that their vaccine is killing people. lol.
Just depends on how people feel like being a legal guinea pig. :)

        • +1

The Oxford vaccine has more research done on it as it was based upon Sara, cheaper to produce and store as Pfizer requires minus 70 for storage and transport.

Yup, but don't worry, they reckon I'll be sorted by end of the month. I'm sure this is different from the 10 earlier times they claimed it would be done. I was wondering if they will just give up on the remaining, not enough incentive in doing remaining houses now that the NBN is "complete"

    • Have fixed wireless "Ready to connect", but am concerned that the current ADSL connection will outperform it after reading many horror stories.

    • We have the option of Satellite but the bandwidth limits make us stick to ADSL2+ at the super fast speed of 600KB/s! We had a community vote where wireless won but then a loud group of "intellectuals" harassed the tower location with "cancer" fearmongering. Couple streets over has FTTN just to rub it in.

  • Oh wow never thought I'd see this gear on Ozb. We use Draytek on NBN installs - there are thousands of the 130's running businesses around Australia.

    ADSL2+ in 2021 should be a crime

    • +6

FTTN, HFC and 4G in 2021 should be a crime.

      • Hey, HFC is easily capable of GB speeds! 😋

        • +3

"Cable of" means nothing when HFC is much more susceptible to congestion. Plus large amount of copper is still involved. I'd honestly rather 100mb FTTC than 1gbs HFC.

          • @PainToad: Sure, except cable keeps getting more improvements, whereas VDSL2 hasn't seen anything for quite a while..

And I'm sure we'd all love to have options, but here we are in a thread where apparently ADSL modems are still a thing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I highly recommend the VEN-TEL instead…

That looks like a cheap PS5 clone

Look on gumtree heaps of people give away their ADSL2+ Modem for free

These are significantly better and can be put in bridge mode. They make use of the latest BCM63138 chipset in the modem portion and are NBN compatible for all types (as long as your ISP is not using VLAN tagging - which means iinet/TPG/internode and a few other smaller ISPs won't work but the large majority work fine).

  • You paid $29 for an ADSL modem when any number of people would have offered one for free?
I'm not a big fan of Facebook, but that's what BuyNothing etc is for.

    • I'd rather pay $29 for something new, than use an accident hand me down from a stranger. A modem is likely to be on 24/7, not an electrical device I want to cheap out on.

      • +1

No moving parts. And easy to find one that came "free" from ISP and has never been used.

  • Whats the best cheap VDSL modem?

    • +1

i have 3 belong modem's i've collected over the years and they all work fine in bridge mode. pick up something second hand.
