+1 For the honest explaination. You have a point, at that price it is a good intro to tablets as well.

THis is not Anroid 2.1 ,its comintg with Anroind 1.6 and Software version Anroid 2.1 of Pioneer

I had a fight with Pioneer support team about this and they still argue that Anroid 2.1 softare and Anroid software is diiferent

This tablet is coming only with Anroid 1.6 and can't be upgraded also no flsh support and their youtube software is not working

You pay far more than this for a universal remote that does a fraction as much. I'd buy at that price just for that.

  • Worth it if it player flash on web pages.

  • is this 7" or 9"?

    edit: nvm, saw other post

Got one from the sale earlier in the week and have started setting it up for my daughter and it's not too bad so far.
It's mainly for browsing the internet via wifi and ebooks, so she should be happy.
Have read that it's sluggish for more demanding tasks like games, but haven't tried that kind of thing yet as it's not much of a priority.

  • Bought one for the inlaws. Note to others, when I purchased just now it said pre-christmas orders have now finished… so I expect these following orders will be delivered after Christmas.

    • do you despise them that much?

  • You might still get it steve.rand. Bought one for the in-laws last Sunday, wasn't meant to be posted until yesterday (Friday) but actually arrived on Thursday. Just trying to update it now. Its pretty useless with Android 1.6.

  • The item cannot be delivered before Christmas - take note if you are aiming for Xmas this year!

    • Probably for the best.. will be a lot of disappointed kids opening their presents thinking they just scored an ipad2

  • where can you download Android 2.1 for it?

    • No need. it comes with 2.1.

  • Pls note, its doesn't incl. shipping.

    • Last sale it started with additional cost for shipping, and then it was free. Now $7.

  • Sweet just order for my 6 & 4 yr old. Will do them then give to younger kids when done.

  • Does anyone want to try the code 'PAYPAL3FREE'

Might be expired but I can't be bothered going through the order to put the code in (you have to pay with paypal so it might be on the confirmation screen'.

For anyone who's interested in a quick review…I got one of these from the last BigW sale. It was $50, don't expect it to be a Samsung Galaxy 10.1. I didn't expect much from it. And it matched my expectations. Just FYI to everyone who says it's Android 2.1, it's not. It's only 1.6 Donut. The 2.1 refers to the build number. Bit sneaky. There is no way to get android 2.1 on it. I'd be happy to be proven wrong :)

I have been playing with it a few days. Put a custom rom on it. It is now rooted. Resistive screen, very plasticky feel to the screen (whole thing feels plasticky). It is ok for general web browsing, book reading (battery issues with this unless you can underclock it and turn wifi/brightness down). I have been using it to read CBR comics. Great for that. I haven't managed to get Youtube to play yet. There are apparently fixed but I don't youtube a lot so not priority for me. Don't bother trying to play games. And another thing, obviously as it's on 1.6, app compatibility may be an issue for some trying to run newer apps. Battery life isn't great, but like most android phones, it chews power. Maybe 2 hours from a full charge. Depends on what you have on. Charging takes hours.

Out of the box, it does not come with Market. Hence the custom rom, which comes with it. After tweaking for a few days, it's become more usable.

If anyone wants some links for custom roms, let me know. I'm on a different computer now so can't be bothered searching :p

I'd really appreciate the custom roms links if that's alright.

      • +1 appreciate the ROM links

Ok guys, here are a few links with roms that work. I tried a few others that either didn't install or had no sound or touchscreen issues. Also, some of the newer ROMs with the honeycomb UI wouldn't install. A bit of a challenge to have to get used to donut again!

I'm using this one, comes with EVERYTHING that you need, but is a bit bloated. Just uninstall what you don't need.

          http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/gome-flytouch-firmware/2…

These work but for whatever reason I chose not to use them…

          http://androidtabletzone.the-talk.net/t1584-wm220-alpha-x-1-…

I'm assuming all the hardware will be the same considering they all came from BigW. If none of these work, just trawl through these sites for ones that work well for you. For Android Tablet Zone, you will have to register to be able to view their threads.

To install them, just put the "script" directory onto the root of a fat32 formated micro SD card, boot the tab with that in.

are they at least any good at browsing the web?

  • Spare my ignorance, is it wifi or 3g?

    • wifi only

  • Looking for a cheap android tablet that will be wall mounted, always plugged in, always on and displaying an appointment screen. Must be able to run a basic rdp app. Will this baby be able to do this? No input will be required.

    • Should be able to.

  • Gents, anyone bother to give me some hints how to flash this device? I browsed to that link above but there are some tools to flash which I'm not quite sure what it does.

    Many thanks

    • +1

Some of those links have several file downloads. Eg, the first link, you'll find

      Current Download WinInstaller to SDcard
      epad_exscript7e2018.exe

Download that and extract the contents (SCRIPT folder) into a FAT32 formatted micro SD card. Insert the micro SD card and turn the tablet on. It will launch into the flashing software. For any of the rom files, you always need the SCRIPT folder in the root.

Before you do that, make sure you have downloaded the stock rom from pioneer computers first in case anything goes wrong. Get it from here
