Great value for money- I have one and love it, really does prolong your produce.
Normally they sting you with a cheap cost of entry, but get you with $$$ for additional bags/containers, but the containers are also going cheap.

Agreed, I'd just get a vaccum sealer off Amazon eBay and then buy a bulk set of vaccum sealer bag rolls - just make sure at least one side of the bags is textured on the inside to allow good air passing through and therefore a good vaccum seal.
Why this and not just a vacuum sealer? (I understand this does their containers, but the bags look like an issue to me - cleaning etc.)

We had one of these. The bags can be resealed but eventually they don't seal as well. Could be we didn't clean the seal area well enough but it was clear that after a few times they weren't sealing as well. We ended up buying a vacuum sealer off eBay that used rolls that you deal, then throw away once opened. Definitely more wasteful than this but much cheaper. I ended up selling our unit for what we paid for it.
If you're keen on this idea but don't want to be locked into a proprietary system then you can get a foodsaver vacuum sealer and the canning jar attachment which will allow you to vac seal mason jars. Looking at the attachment, it looks like it could fit other vac sealers that have a port to attach an air tube.
The other Foodsaver vacuum sealers also seem to be at a reasonable discount at HN.
