Extremely disappointed that Garmin still has this lemon of a model in distribution.

Be warned that this model is plagued with issues, most significantly an issue with the battery/power-management that seems to affect many of these watches, which causes the battery to drop its charge.

To their credit, Garmin Australia support was great and provided a replacement… unfortunately, that too had the same issue, so straight to the junk drawer it went.

At this price, it may be worth the gamble, but frankly there are newer Garmin models that often appear on here at same price range ballpark may be worth the extra cash.

    • Was there a particular batch that had these issues?

I've had mine since Christmas 2019 and I've had it on 24/7 for heart rate monitoring except when it needs a charge every 5 days or so. Haven't had an issue so far.

    • Mines been strapped on for about 3 months now.. has none of the issues you're talking about?

Needs a charge every 4-5 days

Are you sure you hadn't accidentally left GPS on?

No. The garmin support forums are full of threads from folk talking about the same problem with this model.

        Here's just one example.

        https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/healthandwellness/f…

Garmin doesn't seem willing/able to rectify the issue with software, so it might be a inherent build/design quality issue.

The issue even happens when powered off… it would go from 100% charge to 5% overnight while switched off. I got caught out on race day with my refurb and that was the last straw for me.

Then again, I replaced it with another Garmin, so I'm still very happy with their products in general.

    • i just received one of these as a bday gift - so v interested to hear more from other owners about this…

      • I had the vivoactive 3 music, absolutely loved it until I cracked the screen and it died. Seeing how old this model is, I'm waiting for the next version which is supposed to hit this year

    • I bought one around this deal, and it just died this week! I had no idea this was an issue until after I'd bought it, or I would have avoided., Hoping for a full refund.

I had mine for 2 years and it was great, then one day suffered from the same issue as bobbieb - charge lasting ~ 24 hours when it used to last up to 10 days. Garmin were excellent about it though and replaced with a refurb unit with no proof of purchase or anything. Back to ~10 days of life.

I reckon worth the gamble - especially if you use the NFC for purchases a lot like I do

  • Highly recommend. Using Garmin for 6 years now and this one for 2,5. All features needed. Charging every 3-5 days depending on GPS usage (i do a lot)
After 1,5 years battery started behave bad (as per other comments here). Got replaced by Garmin within a week.
    Loving it.

  • My wife's one had the same issues. Lasted 3 months before it started. Took it back to rebel and I wasn't the only one. Manager was great and gave me a refund on the spot

    • Mine only took 3 weeks for this issue to show up! Sent back to Rebel, hoping for a refund. From the sounds of it, they'll get me sorted.

  • Price has now gone down to $187.32
