Have held on to my RT-ac68u for many years now running Merlin and when I recently saw this get Merlin beta (apparently at beta 4) had it on the wishlist.
Can this be used as a mesh system with my current ASUS RT-AC5300?
Need to cover larger area or am I better off with new mesh system?
I got it for 359 last time. It is an awesome router and makes virtual desktop wireless way more playable, for me anyway.
Been using this since October last year and very happy with it so far.
I'm planning on doing just that using ai mesh with the old ac68u.
Linustechtips mentioned these older Asus routers could be used in a paid unboxing of this one.
Cannot comment if it's any good till I try myself but fingers crossed.

I don't know much about Merlin, but is it really worth it? At the moment I'm too afraid to update the original Firmware even using the genuine Asus just in case it causes a problem, namely starts dropping the connection with Samsung phones or some other devices.
I have been using merlin for years. i haven’t got any issue so far.. with merlin you have more options.
Does Merlin firmware supports Aimesh?
