This is a great deal… except from memory the Realme 7 5G would be the better buy. This one doesn’t have n40 band for Optus 5G which they are rolling out.

    Both use Dimensity 800u SOC

    • Realme only has ufs 2.1, on this one you can get ufs 2.2 for the 128 GB model which has faster read-write speeds. Games and apps loads way faster.
4 Gb to 6 GB RAM doesn't make much of a difference in real-life usage. UFS 2.2 would beat a 6 GB Ram phone in loading apps. Looks good on paper though. You can test playing any game.

      • Are we talking seconds fast loading? Or milliseconds?

Reason having 6GB means more things stay loaded in memory negating load times.

Also having the right bands helps as well with coverage.

        • Seconds of difference…i had a 6gb phone redmi note 8 pro, now with note 9t i see a huge difference when it comes to browsing the internet.. be it wifi or same 4g connection.. Pages load faster, also thing to note, not everything is loaded in the memory, even Android uses a lot of paging back and forth and having faster ufs storage makes a huge difference.. i just noticed Motorola released edge s 5g with sd 870 6gb ram and ufs3.1 it's launched for 250 eur in China, if we get that here at a similar price then it would be the fastest, cheapest 5g phone.

    • Thanks, I didn't realise this doesn't have the n40 band

I'm only here to remind people that 5G is amazing, but will see little to no benefit YET.

As the non-tech masses passively migrate to 5g through upgrades, the 4G network will get less congestion and speed up massively.

No app YET will benefit notably from the 'above 300mbps' speeds that 5G will offer.

If you have a phone capable of pairing bands, 4G devices can even get up to 1gbps.

Very cool tech. A decent few years away from making a notable difference.

Tldr: good phone; don't let "5G" be your key selling point though, consider it as a bonus, but place it low on the list.

    • There are often times when 4g gets congested and the speed drops to less than 10 Mbps. In such cases, 5G provides a more fluid experience.
It does have 4 Mimo antennas to increase the speed just like flagship phones.

Although 4G is quite capable but in many places congested. If you live in the city 5G is very useful. I use a 5G home broadband and previously i used 4G optus internet and i can stream 4K videos without lags. for 4G it used to struggle sometimes. Plus having 5G, you're future-proofing yourself.

  • Looking for a rugged 5h phone for that price with similar specs

Would this be decent for Telstra 5G Hotspot? The one they sell for $600 is beyond my budget.

    • Extremely likely, yes.

    • Xiaomi would be sad to hear that their phone will be used only as hotspot mobile.

  • Are these phones affected by the Google ban on some Chinese phones? Google Play, Gmail, YouTube ECT ECT can be installed I mean?

    • All phones can have those installed; they just won't ship with them if they're on the list.

Plenty already exist like that; and most Android TV's too.

Beauty of Android; install what you want.

  • These phones won't be impacted by that…. Only Huawei and ZTE phones are banned from google play that too for newer phones.

    • With trump gone maybe not an issue soon.

  • Any comment about the mediatek chipset? Is is better or on par with snapdragon?

  • Yes like with Huawei phones but my question was more about if these phones have official access? Otherwise Google pay ECT won't work and there's big security risks depending on how you plan to use your phone

    • Yes, it's a global version and does support Google Pay. I'm already using redmi note 8 pro which is also a global version.

      • Cheers I knew Huawei was effected but want sure which other brands were, Oppo for instance and plus1 weren't. Thanks for info

        • Huawei is the only one affected.

Weird enough, even their child brand (which has since been sold off) Honor, wasn't effected at all.

Now that Trump gone and Huawei back in the tender for 6G, I think the ban is going to be lifted soon.

  • Anyone can post its 5G speed test result here? Ideally from Optus 5G

    • Remember 5G can be affected by CENTIMETERS of distance from a hotspot, not just meters. So someone's test results could be very irrelevant unless you KNOW they're underneath a hotspot.

  • Deal says 'expired' but still available at AUS$300 shipped for 4Gb/64Gb black or purple .. :-) .. !!

    • If you see OP's title, it says "A$282.58 Delivered"
