Sweet deal on this board game. While it's sold by 3rd party it's shipped via amazon so any issues are easy to resolve. Enjoy :)

About the game (from their site):
Secret Hitler is a social deduction game for 5-10 people about finding and stopping the Secret Hitler.

Players are secretly divided into two teams: the liberals, who have a majority, and the fascists, who are hidden to everyone but each other. If the liberals can learn to trust each other, they have enough votes to control the elections and save the day. But the fascists will say whatever it takes to get elected, advance their agenda, and win the game.

The standard edition is identical to the edition of Secret Hitler that shipped to Kickstarter backers in 2016, including foil inlays on the boards and wooden placards for the Chancellor and President.

Mod: There are some concerns this may be fake, see comments here and here. Purchase at your own risk.

I play secret Hitler on this site.

  • +62

Normal price is $35.99 according to the camels. A $1 discount? I do nazi the point.

    • +4

Correct but, that data is only relevant from this seller and they are undercutting regular price. If you just search for the game on amazon or google you'll see most of the time is $41>

Edit: Also worth noting is that most of the time the game is shipped and sold via 3rd party which is terrible if you get a fake game or have any issues.

I was Fuhrerious when i saw this comment.

      • I thought it was Anne Frankly disturbing.

        • +2

Not great. But I resspect the effort.

          • @jimwyze: Don't gas him up like that. It was terrible.

    • +8

You're right. It's almost nein dollars cheaper.

    • +84

you should speak to the manager

    • +38

As a Jewish person myself, IMO satire and jokes that are tasteful/mock the Nazis are OK. My holocaust survivor grandparents watch Hogan's Heroes all the time.

That said, I've never played the game, so cannot comment on the content.

      • +34

Having played the game, I don’t think there’s anything to be offended with here. Other than the name “Hitler” triggering some people, it’s not an offensive game.

        • Other than the name “Hitler” triggering some people

Apparently there is an ice cream brand in India trade marked Hitler.
It is the owner's surname. Apparently.

      • -3

Agree. People of Jewish heritage/background have a strong ablity to laugh at themselves.

        • +1

          Grow a (profanity) spine.

        • Bultish. You're trying to stamp out humour. PC Nazi.

        • soooo, is making fun of Hitler OK?

      • The point of the game is to defeat Hitler and the fascists. Only Hitler and Fascists would be offended at that.

    • +18

Until you said something I had no idea about the day.

The deal is posted because it is just that, a deal. No hidden meaning or agenda here.

Edit.. just noticed this deal has been flagged as "1 for Illegal/Inappropriate".. really Karren….. facepalm

        • +1

🤣🤣 more like surprised you felt the need to tell the teacher on me because you didn't get your way or felt you lacked the supported of your peers in your attempt to be outraged on someone else's behalf.

Again it's just a deal.. that's the only reason it's been posted.

    • +11

      Username checks out

    • +2

The game makes fun of facism. Probably really good timing.

    • +2

      Name checks out.

  • +13

Be careful as there are lots of counterfeit versions of this out there

    • do you know an esay way to spot them

      • +2

        It’s a secret

      • +3

        ss

      • Don't know if the one I got from this deal was counterfeit or a bad printing, but the backs of the policy cards are slightly different colours, once you realise this it breaks the game because you can tell what cards people draw from the back.

    • Yes, but that's why you will be safe getting it as it's shipped by amazon and they will refund you if you have any issues.

    • +9

considering the game is free to print yourself under creative commons licenses I am not really sure you can call them counterfeit. But yes it is nice to try and ensure you are at least supporting the original creators.

      • +2

It's also the quality - usually a big difference between official and unofficial printings, as the illegal/unofficials are usually trying to make a quick buck

    • +3

This is almost certainly fake. No product information other than title and photos, only 2 reviews for seller (from the last week). Sadly, the makers of the original Secret Hitler were so naive as to not include obvious branding on the box cover, making it very easy to sell and you don't know if counterfeit until you open it.

    • +1

I bought this yesterday and it came today, and I'm pretty sure it's a counterfeit version. However, it's like 95% there, I couldn't find anything wrong with it, and the pieces were high quality. It's printed by AdMagic, and has wooden parts, good cardboard.

      • if you couldn't find anything wrong with it, why did you think it was a counterfeit version?

        • It just doesn't have a premium feeling that board games have, it's not one particular thing, just like things are not as vibrant, or the manual was slightly creased.

      • +1

Its not printed by AdMagic, all the counterfeits say that still. How do I know?…… I am personal friends with the team at AdMagic and do a lot of business with them..

  • +10

Great game to play with friends over a few drinks and gets played regularly, have found it's more enjoyable with 8-10 people (though still fun with less)

    • +1

Great feedback!! thanks for sharing :)

    • +1

Yeah fun game but one that benefits from having more people.

    • what is the minimum number of players?

      • +1

You can play with 5, but better with 7+.

        • +1

yup 7+ is much more enjoyable. 5-6 is only ok.

      • +2

There's rules for 5/6 players, but in my experience 5 is unplayable.
7 is probably a realistic minimum for good experience.

    • +3

Works much better with odd numbers, 7 or 9 is best. Otherwise fascists have near impossible chance of winning.

      • +2

Odd numbers are actually incredibly broken in the facists favor when you realise that if they can assassinate a liberal, they can vote down any proposed team and force random policy enactments if necessary (which are most likely to be fascist). the game breaks.

Highly, highly, recommend even player counts

      • Odd you say that, there was only one odd number in 1943 ;)

  • Perfect for the secret Hitler lurking inside everyone.

    • +2

I must admit from the game description I would find the fascist role a lot more fun.
Kinda like Darth Vader is a real badass and Luke Skywalker is a whiny little jerk. You know it is true. Disney plus refers to Darth Vader collections. There isn’t a Luke collection.

  • +2

Jewish person here, I confirm this game is hilarious! might ended up arguing with friends but def worth it

    • -4

Does it actually matter if you're jewish? If people want to be offended at the name 'adolf' or 'hitler', let them. Skin wont grow back thicker if it doesnt get burnt. ;)

    • +13

I think you might be reading too much into it. Basically it is a social deduction game, similar to mafia with extra steps and doesn't require a narrator.

You have facist whom like the mafia knows each other but they have lower player count. Hitler, depending on the number of players might or might not know his/her teammates. Liberals who are non mafia have to deduce whom they can trust and enact liberal policies/or assasinate hitler. Facist tries to put hitler in power after a certain number of facist policies has been enacted.

    • +7

      ^ Found the nazi.

    • ok, looks like we found the SJW…

    • +3

Yea, its really very superficial, it has no actual nazi or historical stuff, there are many different games like this, Mafia, werewolf etc.

Its literally Fascists & Hitler are just used as names for the bad team that are trying to infiltrate, and the Liberals are the good team, that everyone claims they are. Theres no other references to events or anything specific.

      • ok thanks

      • That doesn't seem to make much sense since the people Liberals call Fascists don't claim to be Liberals.

    • +1

Lol nice trolling - A+++ would read again ;-)

    • +1

it has nothing to do with politics. It's similar to 'murder mystery' games while making fun of nazis. Please don't bring any political agenda here.

      • it's similar to 'murder mystery' games while making fun of nazis

        ok thanks

it has nothing to do with politics

i dont see how that can be true?

        • +1

i dont see how that can be true?

Think of it as simply a theme: a set of labels given to the teams, following a theme to make it into a cohesive game. But really, the theme is pretty irrelevant to the mechanics of the game, and could be easily changed without impacting the gameplay.

Whether it is Facists & Liberals (Secret Hitler), Sith & Jedi (Secret Sith / Secret Palpatine), spies vs resistence fighters (The Resistence), werewolves vs villagers (Ultimate Werewolf) - these are simply labels given to identify the two teams in these types of hidden role / social deduction games.

You could literally replace the labels with ANY label you like - hence why people have re-skinned Secret Hitler as Secret Sith/Palpatine, Secret Voldemort, etc. Or The Resistence vs The Resistence Avalon.

You could play Tomaytos vs Tomahtos if you wanted to! lol

          • @caprimulgus: ok i see what you mean

i'd just argue that if you slap on labels of real life politicians and real life political ideologies, that obviously makes it at least referentially political

    • -2

      Grow a (profanity) spine.

Anybody who enjoys this should absolutely do themselves a favour and check out the resistance or the resistance: Avalon. Both are the better game, at least in my opinion. Secret Hitler was a print-and-play while the resistance games were popular. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always assumed secret Hitler was a shameless copy.

    • i'd be interested in ones that avoid the quagmire of labels in this

      • +2

Yep, the original Resistance is much less confusing and much easier to play with new players. Sci-fi/Cyberpunk style to the game as well. Avalon differs in that it contains all the expansion content from the original with a medi-evil fantasy styling of game.
I own the original and it always gets requested by friends, it's by far my most requested party game.

        • Sci-fi/Cyberpunk style

          ooooo
          sounds neat

    • Definitely sounds like a shameless copy. Resistance is amazing.

      • +1

Isn't resistance itself a copy with a few mechanic changes? Social deduction games have been around for a long time now.

    • +2

I wouldn't call it a shameless copy - a variation on the theme, maybe.

Sure, a lot of the mechanics are similar / exactly the same, but as a whole, I think they play quite differently.

I think they are different games, and would happily own both!

    • I wouldn't call hitler a shameless copy but hey are similar I do like Avalon more. It's just a much cleaner take on the idea.

    • I think I prefer Secret Hitler over Resistance, but the extra mechanics of Avalon are better than Secret Hitler.

  • +6

If you want a different theme for the game it's a fun DIY project, here's one I put together: Secret Sith
