How an actor with the name Dudley Manlove wasn't the defining actor of his time is an indictment on our species.

        Plan 4: Profit!

  • Get two sim only month-to-month plans, $35 per month, $70 in total.

Order the PS5, cancel the plans, pay out the console.

    PS5 for $820.

    • +7

or simply wait for next drop on Amazon.

      • True but people seem to be in a rush to buy one.

          To play Astro's playroom…

          • +2

@umadbrahhhh: To be fair Astro's Playroom is a pretty neat platformer, enjoyed it. Way too short tho.

    • +4

During cancellation if you say the coverage was not satisfactory, the $70 is refunded

      • +4

As long as you have never made a coverage claim with them before (you an only claim poor coverage with them once)

Ain't nobody got time for dat

    • -3

Exactly, what a sad existence if you have time for that.
The PS5 isn't as hard to get as many would make out if you keep your eye on Oz Bargain (hourly).
Got my PS5 weeks ago and the Xbox S X around the same time.

      • +2

It is difficult when certain people are buying 5 or 10 of them & selling them for inflated prices, whilst legit purchasers seem to get stiffed…

        • +1

People that do that are ruining it for everyone else.
But you will be able to get either console at the RRP with just a little patience and checking all the relevant sites.
I'd never pay above the $749 RRP for either.

  • +24

Hard enough to find somebody who has 1 Vodafone account..You couldn't give me a PS5 to go with Vodafone

    • +2

Couldn't agree more, Vodafone and TPG… Never again!

      • Customer service is shit, but the price is right for the plans - I've got mine and my partner's phone and plan as well as NBN bundled together.

Vodafone NBN is the only service I'm aware of that includes a 4G modem that kicks over for free in case of network outage for business continuity.

What's everyone else's main gripe with them? And could we be doing better with another provider?

        Looks like I'll get a PS5 now, so that's a bonus.

        • +2

Vodafone NBN is the only service I'm aware of that includes a 4G modem that kicks over for free in case of network outage for business continuity.

Telstra also has this as part of their modem/router. But plan cost more and the 4g speed is throttled.

          • @Gandalf the Thrifty: My parents are on Telstra with this and their plan is 30GB per month 4G fallback, capped speed on 4G after that.

    • +5

Vodafone is fine for me. Been with them for years.

Roaming is amazing (when international travel was a thing). Price is great. Service is better than Telstra most of the time (I had Telstra for a year to get my iPhone 11 Pro via jb) but I live in fnq.

I pay $133/m for two phone lines, an iPad plan and 50/20 nbn.

  • +8

Doing that for a ps5? I'd feel scalped

  • +3

if someone was enough of a sucker to get one vodafone plan, i didn't think they'd be enough of a sucker to get a second!

    • +2

I guess I am a sucker for getting 500GB for $55 a month with constant speed of 50Mb instead of 1.5mb with Hel$tra

      • +4

Damn. 500GB of internet data wouldn't even last me a fortnight.

        • That’s a lot of porn

  • +2

Calling now, waiting online, will report back if successful

    • +1

2 weeks waiting time. I'll order it first and how long it actually takes for me to receive

    • +3

I'm pretty sure if you get yourself stuck with two voda plans that defines "unsuccessful".

  • +1

Just called up, FYI, not eligible with business plans

    • i have personal plans under a business name, took my order ok. I think its just not available on specific business plans

  • +3

So Vodafone manages to get PS5 stock and yet EB games cant get their 2nd release orders yet….

    • -8

You realise Vodafone is a massive multi National telco and EB a tiny Australian retailer right

      • +11

EB Games is owned by Gamestop… it is not your local Aussie company lol.

        • -7

Gamestop has no money to support themselfs let alone EB. Their company and slowly dying and share price hitting rock bottom.

          • +1

@Chchnu: I thought Gamestop's stock price has gone through the roof recently?

            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/600719

            • -1

@FW190: Wow then why cant EB get ps5s? Their business is booming!

            • +1

@FW190: Purely as a meme to mess with hedge fund babies. Nothing to do with their actual quality or service or products they deliver.

          • +1

@Chchnu: Look at their Share price now. it just went past 300$ USD yesterday now sitting at $199

      • +1

EB is a subsidiary of GameStop. Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's the largest 3rd party video game retailer worldwide. It's definitely up there, if not the biggest. Then again, Vodafone is a massive multinational telecomms business so not super surprising there either.

        • Anyone buy Gamestop shares? Wish I did

  • +18

I remember back in the 2000's phone companies often advertised a free xbox with a 24 month plan. Now you have the opportunity to buy a PS5 at RRP with two phone services haha.

    • +2

Sign up for 2 services and we will let you buy this at RRP!

    • My GF at the time got one. I had many glorious hours playing Burnout and other things I can't remember now.

      • +5

        GF or the games?

  • Buying 2 Vodafone plans is worse than buying off a scalper in my opinion. Hard pass.

  • +18

What sort of hellish timeline are we in now that this is considered to be a 'deal'??

    • +1

Yep. RRP + having to buy 2 contract phone plans with it is not a deal.

  • +2

My friend joined this deal in the last month and has been on the phone almost every day with Voda. Voda didn’t have stock of the PS5 and can’t process the promo for him.

    • Is he paying for the multiple accounts? Great win for VF…

      • Yes

        • That's quite dishonest. How can they justify selling a plan with a promo attached, if they can't fulfil the requirements due to 'no stock'.

I bet the TIO will have a field day with this, so I suggest your friend lodges a complaint.

  • Corporate scalping.

  • wow already :D

  • -1

They should have given out the PS5 for free If they wanted people to sign up for their plans.

    • -1

next week you should reject your pay too

      • Well, selling the PS5 at RRP is not enough incentive to join Voda.

        • +1

Think this is more targeted at those who already are with Voda.

  • really? for a PS5? Just get a real job to kill the time.

  • Lmao, they couldnt even throw in a 10$ discount or something?

  • I ordered mine last week on Wednesday (20 Jan) and it was delivered Friday (22 Jan).

I am surprised that news about this didn't break until just now tbh.

  • +1

Next thing you know later today or on the weekend some retailer offers the PS5 for $749. No need to buy any phone plans to get it. What a waste of money.

Stock from multiple retailers seem to drop on a weekly basis. You must be desperate to think the need to buy 2 phone plans with it just to obtain it.

    • Put money down with EB Games on the 17th of September, still bloody waiting for mine, they still cannot give me an estimated ETA other than "sometime in 2021"

      • There isn't much of a wait now, stock is starting to flow via various channels.

        • I don't mind the wait, I understand the demand, but to give absolutely no indication of ETA is unforgivable. Sony would be giving them ETA and numbers for the next few shipments at least.

They need to be indicating if it will be > or < 2 months at the very least, so customers can make other arrangements. Purchased in September for a kids Christmas present, should have been plenty of time.

          • @dtpearson: EB oversold their allocation big time to bankroll as much pre order money as possible to keep them afloat. The reason why they can't tell you is because they don't know themselves. You're incredibly patient to have waited this long before pulling the pin and going elsewhere. I got one in under two weeks from JB.

    • I agree, just look through the PS5 & Xbox SX posts here, retailers have stock drops weekly now, you just need to keep an eye on here and their sites.

      • Yep. Going by Ozbargain the last drop was on 21/01/2021. We should be in for another big drop any day now. It could even be tonight for all we know.

    • +2

I see it more as a bonus if you already have two plans with Vodafone, I doubt anyone would register for two new plans just to get a PS5. You'd probably be better off getting one at scalper's prices.

On the stock situation, I'm not quite as optimistic though. Stock drops are still snatched in a matter of minutes, meaning there's either still high demand, or low quantity … or both. We also know that AMD is still warning of stock shortages until H2 and that Sony is not prioritizing APAC or Australia.

At this point, I feel it's still a case of structuring your life around Sony's schedule to get one (no, I'm not bitter at all about that last-minute work meeting which made me miss the previous drop because I was 5 minutes late :) ).

  • wtf lol.

  • I wouldnt pander to this stupid low-stock issue, PS5 was supposed to be release Oct/Nov 20 and we're almost Feb 21 still people salivating over a RRP pre-order when there's a total of 6 games playable on a PS5

  • +1

So apparently the wait is 1-2 weeks…
I’ll be interested to see if this pans out

  • So - I suspect the official sony store might be getting some stock in soon. I've had a PS5 in my cart since November and it just switched over to being available again this morning. Sony site still has the 'sign up for notifications' button - but might be worth keeping an eye on. My order went through… Also should stack with the AMEX sony deal I think.

    • Yeah there would be stock due any day now.

  • +1

    Came today. Nice
