WTF… how are you guys doing it so cheap with 3080? Just finished my built, or else just should have gone with this.

    • +18

Because most retailers are jacking GPU prices. If these guys aren't jacking it as much then it looks better. They're also using cheaper parts for RAM, PSU, etc

    • A lot of these parts are not necessarily top of the line, main one being the i5 10400F possibly not being really a great pairing for a 3080 (as an example).

That said, it is good value for what you get, can't argue with that.

      • +5

I don't know why you think that CPU is not a good pairing with RTX 3080. People buy RTX 3080 aren't likely to play 500FPS at 1080p or below. The higher resolution you go the more GPU bound you are and CPU only do so much.

Even the RTX 3080 struggle to get 60FPS at 1080p in The Medium without Ray Tracing and that's hardly due to the CPU.

Fact of the matter is CPU is less important than GPU and any Quad core CPU (lowest of the low) right now can support it to a large degree.

        • -7

I don't think i5 is a good pair at all
I7 would be Min for pairing with 3080
3080 is a Min 1440p gaming card and there for higher frames you def need a better CPU, same for 4k

          • +2

            @botchie: Like 2600 i7? lol

          • +2

@botchie: Unless you play CS or the like or play Low-Medium settings, even at 1440p you aren't likely to get 120FPS or higher. Some games like DOOM Eternal yea that would be easy but a lot of games not so much, and we aren't even talking about future games.

As long as it has 6 core 12 threads which the i5 has, it's already fairly good enough even in CPU more intensive game. You are much more likely to run into GPU bottleneck.

And 4K lol. That's even more GPU bottleneck.

I'm running i7-6700K which is 5 years old and only quad core with RTX 3070 at 1440p, and outside of Total War or Mount & Blade Warband 2 where I set model to thousands, I have never seen my GPU usage dropped to below 99%.

            For review:

            • +1

@Bigboomboom: hang on - this gfx card is not for ppl that play cs go, its for ppl that want to push frames and pay stupid money no?
otherwise you can get last years or even 2 year old intel with 1080ti and play any game you want at decent frames

              sooo
if you are already spending this kind of cash you might as well go for it, better cpu, better ram, better ssd etc etc
              otherwise get a cheaper 3070, 3060ti build

              • @botchie: I don't think someone who want to spend stupid amount of money would be looking at Techfast deal on Ozbargain. They simply buy RTX 3090 which is somewhat more available, and pay for express delivery.

Techfast deal is usually for bargain hunter who can wait 4-6 weeks before shipping.

          • +4

@botchie: You dont really NEED a better cpu. If you check Hardware unboxed tests on most of the mid range and high range cpu's, the difference is negligible based on the price at 1440p and 4k. The 10400 and 3600 only have a 4 fps difference when compared to the i9 10900k and 5600x in 1440p, 1fps difference in 4k. These cpu's pair perfectly fine with the 3080 for high resolution gaming. Obviously, you can spend a bucket load more if you want that extra 4-5 fps but thats none of my business.

          • +2

            @botchie: You are wrong.
i5's were shit when they were 4 cores/4 threads and that was YEARS ago.

Yes there are better CPUs but the i5 10400F is 6 core /12 thread which is fine.
Also CPU is less important the higher resolution you go and for 1440p 4k a 4.3GHz (non boosted) 6 core /12 thread CPU is most certainly NOT a bottleneck.

        • +1

Absolutely disagree, the i5 10400 honestly makes more sense here than even cheaper builds.

No one is going to be using this build for 1080p, rather you'll buy a high refresh rate 4k monitor. You know what the difference between a 10400 and a 10900k (or 5950X for that matter) is going to be at 4k? Nil, nada, maybe 1-2fps here and there.

When the day comes you truely need a better CPU, a 10900K is not going to have the single core performance you'd want anyway, you'd be better off upgrading to whatever mid range parts are going to be availible then.

  • +3

    that's objectively a great deal

  • +1

If I didn't already have my 3080, I'd buy this, swap my 1080 and resell.

  • -1

I wonder if these guys have to promise their allocation is going into complete systems? I know I would be seriously considering selling any allocation of GPUs I had on their own with current prices people are willing to pay and pocketing more cash. Could be helping shifting inventory of all the other components too I guess. So if there's a bunch of mobos, SSDs, power supplies on your desk best way to get your cash back on them would be toss them in with the GPU and free the already sunk funds.

Good on these folks for keeping things halfway decent.

    • Probably more a case of wholesalers forcing them to buy multiple components as a package per GPU and so they have little choice but to offer it as a system.

  • +2

Is this overkill for a bit of gaming, some adobe work and some other photo editing?

    • +1

Sure is but life is about indulging yourself so go for it

    • +1

      Define bit of gaming

      But probably yes.

      • Well I play mostly Warzone on PS4 and have pretty much given up on a PS5 so thought I might as well get a PC. At least it can game and otherstuff. I'm not streaming on Twitch or anything like that. Hell, I'd be happy going back to play red alert…

      • Although now I am questioning if the G5 in this Dell deal would be a better fit.
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/600086

        • 3070 laptop vs 3080 pc. Notable difference.

If you don't need a laptop I'd get this system easily.

Though you'll wanna pair with a high refresh rate 1440p minimum monitor otherwise it's a waste of money.

  • Is there any reason peeps would go i9/3080 over the 5900X/3080?

    • yes, the 5900x with 3080 comes around the same price. You get two cores and PCIE4. Plus power saving. Makes that deal a better option. The only downside is availability.

      • +1

I agree. 5900X seems much better than i9 with 2 extra cores.

My question was reversed - why would people choose the i9 over the 5900X for the same priced system?

        • +1

If you could get one, sure.

But frankly AMD 5000 series are a joke atm

          • @scuderiarmani: So you reckon they'll be bugger all chance of Techfast getting in stock of 5900X any time soon for their AMD offering?

        • +1

because you can actually buy i9s and in some cases i9s are cheaper than freaking 5800xs forget 5900x

  • Can anyone please vouch if the $2,788 version too expensive? It sounds like the difference ($700) is only the CPU (i7 vs i9).

    Or am I missing something?

I am seriously interested… along withe BCC deal the other day.

    • +1

      i5 vs i9
      B460 vs Z490 mainboard
      Better PSU

      • Oh ya that's right. lol

Missed the motherboard B460 vs Z490 bit.

      • Faster memory and better cooler too.

      • Different case as well

    • Using options from the i7 version:
$49 to upgrade to 240mm cooler
$99 to upgrade to Z490 motherboard (brand may vary)
$49 to upgrade ram to 3200Mhz
$59 to upgrade PSU to 850W (no Aorus tag)
      $40~ upgrade in case
      = $300~

So $400 to upgrade CPU and access to some varied upgrade options

I'm thinking probably upgrade the mobo on the cheaper option and get a Rocket Lake CPU when it releases if you want.

After see sawing many times I'm probably waiting for Alder Lake.

  • Question. About the MSI Z490 motherboard's HDMI port, is it 2.1 or 2.0?

Game changer as I am looking for 4k 144hz (obviously HDMI 2.1 is capped at 120hz) monitor too.

    • None of these CPUs have integrated graphics so unless there's something I'm missing, you would need to plug any monitor into the GPU.

      • Just realized it right after I posted the question.

Thank you. Sorry for the silly question.

  • I think people will buy the PC just to pillage the 3080 and sell the rest

  • Hey Luke

Could someone please contact me in regards to my order? Discount code didn’t apply. Sorry can’t private message as I bargain won’t let me for 24 hours.

I’ve shot you guys an email.

    Thanks a lot.

    • +1

Sure, not a problem to retroactively apply.

      • Hi Luke,

Ordered this deal the other day but selected the Vampiric case when I would have prefered the standard 100R. Any chance to get that changed on my order?

  • Any stock of the 10850k?

  • Which option would be better: This deal with CPU upgraded to i7 10700F total cost $2305 OR the Ryzen deal with r5 3600 for $2286?

    • Yo man, you want to upgrade the ram to a faster speed for the 10700f as 2666mhz is pretty rubbish to pair with a 3080. Which means a mobo upgrade as well.

I'm tossing up the options as well and the best alternative if you want a few extra frames in games would be to go the 10600kf with a 240mm aio for a mild overclock and upgrade the ram and mobo. Comes in around 2405 if you go the z490 without wifi.

You get 2 less cores than the 10700k but the difference in gaming is negligable - and the 10600k will outperform the 3600 in gaming.

  • Late Feb kill this deal

  • +1

Which would be better all rounder for gaming, bit of photoshop, and office files etc work
This or the AMD 5800x deal they have

Bit the bullet and bought the i9 version, cost $3k with the SSD/HDD upgrades. Now the guilt sets in.

    • +1

      How so?

I am trying to persuade the "treasurer" for $3k too and no luck so far lol

      • Thankfully my "treasurer" is a bit of a gamer herself and knows I've been waiting to upgrade for quite a while. I've made sure to complain to her about my PC often enough, so she's probably thankful I won't be complaining anymore.

      • +2

Its easier to ask forgiveness than permission….

    • +1

      Wise choice!

    • Interested to know why you chose the i9 over the 5900X deal? I'm tossing up between the two.

      • +1

Brand loyalty I guess. Back when I got my first PC 4 years ago, Intel was at the top of their market, and so I did quite a bit of research on their chips when I got my i5-7600k. I don't know much about the AMD chips, but I think both the i9 and 5900x are high-end enough that I probably wouldn't notice a difference in performance, so for me it's just a matter of preference.

  • Will I get all rest of the parts, such as SATA cables coming with the motherboard, additional power cables coming with the power supply?

    • Yep you will

  • Dear Luke,
Can you guarantee delivery will start mid-feb, and the latest time frame a person will be getting their machines?
There isn't any point if these come by May for example?

Sorry not being a dick, just want some clarification etc etc, before people jumping on the band wagon of shitting on techfast.

    Thanks

    • +1

Howdy, i get it. I can't guarantee anything time wise when it comes to NVIDIA supply; even they won't guarantee timings. Both NVIDIA and the manufacturers have said Chinese New Year is when supply improves and manufacturers have confirmed we have stock in their first shipment which are scheduled for February. I can't see any reason they would ship in April or May, end of Feb into March would be the likely timings.

      • +1

thanks for the reply, very keen, as i want another machine, but, its hard when you dont have a cap on purchases, and these are a bit unknown, but all understandable.
Glad its clear, so no one can hate on,

    • I'm still waiting for my delivery and I ordered just after boxing day.

3080s are in short supply so it could hold it up a while.

      • thanks Sam! You should get it very soon then.

  • Luke, kind of same question here.

Can you please help out regarding the MSI cashback promo as for me it's a bit of a deal breaker, probably for most.

    Promotion Period is: Nov. 20th 2020 – Feb. 5th 2021.
    Redemption Period is: Nov. 20th 2020 – Mar. 14th.

(MSI Motherboard, MSI Graphic card, MSI Case and liquid cooling)

Meaning part/system must be purchased from a valid retailer by Feb 5 and a claim logged in by March 14th? How to be sure we'd fall in that period?

    Thanks heaps in advance.

    • The MSI cashback promo isn't applicable to this deal.

    • Yeah nup can't do that, only specific systems have been included by MSI in their deal and this isn't one of them.

  • Pulled the trigger for the i9 | 3080. Can't wait for it to arrive. Problem now is to have the right monitor for it. :)

    • Thanks for pulling the trigger, it will rock!

      • Any news on the GPU's?

        • +1

Howdy, no dispatch notification as of today.

          • @luketechfast: Thanks Luke!

          • @luketechfast: I opted to have the build sent to me and GPU to follow. Just want to ask, the PSU is upside down, is it really supposed to be that way?

            • +1

@Bonenzo: Yes it is. The MSI case has a grill to vent the hot air your PSU creates out via the bottom instead of blowing it onto your graphics card.

  • Hey @luketechfast could you tell me - does the MSI Z490 Tomahawk ATX Motherboard have WiFi? And can you elaborate on what brands the 1tb NVME/240mm Cooler are? I think I'll be going with the i9 build + few upgrades. Cheers.

    • Howdy, the Tomahawk doesn't have WiFi on board so my recommendation would be to get a separate PCIE device. We selected this board based on reviews that said it's the best bang for buck pairing that can handle an i9. We use a variety of brands and models for both the NVME and liquid cooler and given shipping will likely be about 4 weeks I can't say what will be in stock but SSD wise we normally use WD, Crucial or Lexar, and cooler Allied IceCube RGB or Deepcool models.

      • Sweet cheers. Also, I'm in Adelaide too - am I able to pick up this item instead of paying for delivery?

        • Enter LOCAL PICKUP in the Notes field - your shipping fee will be automatically refunded upon collection in case it does need shipping for whatever reason.

  • Put my order in for the i9, hopefully all goes well with the 3080 stocks :)

    • Thanks for your order!

  • I finally broke and bought one. I wanted to wait for the 3080TI, but the way these have been sold out and prices seem to just be climbing, it is too good of a deal to pass up. Just wish I bought it when posted to get it quicker. Can’t wait to play flight simulator in VR, and to compare cyberpunk 2077 to Xbox series X. Cheers for the deals Luke.

    • +1

      Thanks for your order!

  • Have the gpu's arrived yet?

  • For those who have purchased, I've just emailed with an update. Please check your email (including spam) and let me know if you didn't receive it.

    • Any new deals coming this week Luke?

      • No, we're concentrating on shipping our various orders at this stage, and launching our new website before subjecting that to a proper OzBargaining.

        • Do an RTX 3060 for under $1000 and we will DDos it. :p

    • Hi Luke, I haven't received an email from you.

      • +2

Few independent computer stores around me have come into 3080 stock lately too. Contemplating cancelling the order if there's no ETA in sight.
