Uhh, hate to break it to you but if you cancel PS Plus you lose the games you 'got' so it basically is a rental service just like with the free games on Xbox Live. Sony doesn't have an alternative to Game Pass since PS Plus is more inline with Xbox Live which is what OP asked. PS Plus has two games a month just like Xbox Live plus 20 older PS4 titles compared to the roughly 200 games on Game Pass plus EA Play which gives even more games. Game Pass Ultimate is a couple dollars more expensive per month than PS Plus but you get access to a lot more games and access to brand new Microsoft games when they come out so it's well worth it IMO. I do agree with the Xbox Series S being underpowered compared to the PS5 and Series X though, not sure it's the best value at $499 although I've seen it on Gumtree for $400 after a few days use.
Xbox Game Pass + a Series S is a winning combo for someone young. If you want to spoil them even more get the Series X.

Gamepass doesn't come with Xbox Live Gold. You'd need Gamepass Ultimate for that, and that's much more expensive per year. PlayStation Plus is also much better than Xbox Live given that it provides monthly AAA Games and it isn't a rental service.
Get a PS5 + PlayStation Plus. It will be much cheaper in the long run and you won't have outdated hardware like the Series S.
