  • Which is better fitbit or Garmin as in this charge and the vivosmart 4

      See my comment.

If you plan the use the GPS for running and care about the stats, the FitBit is useless.

It depends on what you want it for.
Would you want to track your sleep? the Charge 4 is smaller so easier to sleep with.
Would you want to connect the heart rate monitor to an external bike computer (live wireless stats)? Then Garmin.

Also the vivosmart 4 does not accept replacements of the strap - if they wear out or snap, that's the end of the whole device. With the fitbit you can change them when they wear out. That was the deal breaker for me, because they do wear out with time, so I got the fitbit. But you can make your choice.

      • I want one with good sleep tracker and gps tracking and do not need a membership for it. I was told fitbit now need a membership thanks google

I also hate that Fitbit tries to charge for premium stuff. It all should be free in the app; I actually gave them a one star review in the app store only for that reason.
However the subscription is only for premium stats. I got the free trial for a month and cancelled after, all the important stats are included in the basic free account and the premium ones are just a few and useless really.
I think both the Garmin and the Fitbit track sleep well. They both track movement and heart rate. They also kind of track O2 saturation but not well really. The Fitbit shows "O2 variation" because it's not accurate enough to show the actual percentage. The Garmin does a bit better probably but only tracks 4h per night because it uses too much battery. So all in all, kind of the same.
I understand the latest Apple watch is the only smartwatch that tracks O2 saturation well. But then people need to charge it every night, so what's the point.
Between the Fitbit and the Garmin, there's no clear winner, so probably get the cheapest one or the one you think looks nicer.

still free as far as i know, got some email but didn't say had to do anything. Trialled premium, not really missing out on much unless setting up training plans.

The sleep stuff is great, wouldn't want to start things manually and chew the battery for background tracking. i've got a garmin edge which are great on the bike, different devices.

        • Fitbit Premium subscription was launch in September 2019. The Google/Fitbit acquisition was formalised in January 2021. Sorry but it had nothing to do with Google.

In terms of Fitbit features they are all available for free out of the box. With premium you get a deeper dive on some stats and you have access to much more workout and sleep assistant videos and recommendations. The important sleep stats are available as standard. I know because I have a Charge 2 and use GPS and sleep tracking right now.

  • Does this one stop the GPS tracking half way through a workout as well?

Otherwise pretty good for daily cals, steps and sleep tracking, long battery. Hard to read see in the sun, just a few heads ups.

Withouth knowing the exact differences, seems like a decent discount. The cheapest the standard edition gets to is about $149, and the genuine straps aren't cheap (or ebay knock offs $5)

Still rocking on my Fitbit charge 3 from early last year OW clearance, $99 buckeroos.

    • +1

We got the $99 Versa Special Edition from JB!

  • Garmin. G App with default features is great to compare to Fitbit default ones. Vivoactive 3 cost $190 in Amazon too, which has GPS as Fitbit Charge 4.

Agree. My wife has a Fitbit Charge 4. I am waiting for Garmin 245 deals so that I can return the Fitbit.

The Garmin app is so much better and is free while a lot of features are locked in Fitbit. Need to subscribe for the premium features. Fitbit food logging also sucks. Linked Myfitnesspal to Garmin and the two sync without drama.

Only thing Fitbit does better is sleep tracking.

      • Chronometer also imports both and a lot of formats, probably track in that or myfitesspal, not garmin connect or fitbit in terms of food/water. Sleep is good in fitbit, wouldn't want to wear a massive sports watch to bed and worry about starting an exercise to record sleep, or chewing the battery. Different tools, just get both. i saw the Garmin music 245 were half price last year but decided to keep my fitbit still a fair bit cheaper

  • This one puts your socks and shoes on for you!

Why not let Google know your heart rate and how well you sleep, on top of your emails, appointments, affairs, wealth and all the rest? Privacy is for chumps.

    • +1

Maybe they'll e-mail you and say congratulations on improving your health :)

    • Google probably already knows that through your smart phone - except the heart rate monitor part - but if you sleep at 1am and wake up at 6am, your heart is probably beating more higher than average in the same age bracket.

Besides GPS, what’s this do that my mifit doesn’t?
