$100 eGift Card with Comprehensive Car Insurance or Home & Contents Insurance (New Policy Only) @ Virgin Money

420

Was in the market of renewing my car and also home insurance which had the $100 GC. Noticed the Car insurance now also has the $100 voucher (was previously 10000 velocity). They were also cheaper than CUA so was a win win.

  • Nice find, my insurance is due this month too

      Glad I can help :)

btw if it's a good deal, you should + the deal

  • +1

Nice one, my car insurance has been with them for years, they were unbelievably cheap compared to every other provider

Also worth noting for anyone who is a bit sceptical of anything to do with Virgin. This is not the same company as the airline. It's actually owned by Bank of Queensland

Sounds great if you never need to use the insurance. Checked out other reviews that seem less than ideal, with insurance it’s real important to check out what they cover you for, exclusions, who the underwriter is, ideally what the claims experience is like if you know anyone who has needed to make a claim and what the cancellation fee is. Also make sure the PDS covers you for what you are concerned about so there no surprises at claims time.

What’s the point of saving potentially a few hundred a year if you lose your home due to an event and are not looked after at claims time.

Not pro or con this insurer, the above are things everyone should be checking.

Great advice, the only issue is how do you know all these things in advance.

Also given the rise in influencers, which it appears many aspire to, where can you really get truly unbiased and accurate information.

While we have known each other for over 6 years here, I have no idea who the hell you are. 😀. Likewise for you, who I am.

We can’t even trust what we see.

      • I agree with what you are saying. If you don’t know of someone who can relate personal experience it’s difficult to make a decision based on that.

There are tell tail signs thoe, firstly forget all the marketing hype. Check the PDS, an insurer is required to tell you exactly what they do and don’t cover, comparing the PDS differences is the best place to start. I like to look beyond that and compare call centre staff, are they informative, will they take there time in answering my questions, will they be transparent and explain challenging questions honestly like why does a premium increase ect. What’s the hold time like calling the policies line? Do they have a licence to provide personal advice or only have a general or no advice model. Are they on or off shore? Communication clear? Answers only scripted? These tell me where the insurer invest in their resources which in turn may suggest what resources would also be put into claims. Review sites are also not super helpful which adds to the difficulty in making an informed decision.

All of the above may mean a higher premium but no two insurers are the same, even if owned by the same parent company.

  • Shame they don't do motorcycle insurance :/

Even with the $100, my existing insurance with Budget Direct is still about $400/pa cheaper (with exactly the same value covered etc

    • And the exact same underwriter.

Safe to say, make sure you compare your own personal circumstances before you just jump in.

    • That's weird, I compared quotes for my house for Virgin and Budget Direct and they came to the exact same amount.

Are you sure you've compared policies with the same excess?

      • I compared car insurance with a few, exact same details and excess. Virgin was just over $100 more expensive than budget, but they're trying to entice me buy offering the Gift card, which brings them back to within a few dollars.

  • Can i buy 2 months in advance? Mine is due in may

    • +1

You can certainly buy in advance and choose a starting date in the future. I’m not sure how much they allow, but I’d expect two months to be fine. In any case you can check when you get a quote as the starting date is part of the process.

  • I just bought it 4 days ago 😞

    • +4

Cancel and buy again if you want to. All insurance should have a 10 business day cooling off period if I remember correctly (please do check yourself before relying on this).

    • You're still eligible.
I bought H&C on 1/2 too - and it was eligible then

  • you can still get the 1000 points too if you were inclined that way. Just need to purchase through the velocity frequent flyer portal.

    • How do you do this? I logged into Velocity website and app, and neither mention the $100 offer, just ff points.

  • Not too bad, just $5 more than I paid through Catch Insurance last year, with the same actual insurer. Catch had $120 catchback, had a hard time finding anything worthwhile to use it on. $100 gift card much preferred!

Pity the promo ends in March, and my renewal date isn't until June. Early cancellation fees would eat into the gift card a fair bit.

    • ? I thought you can cancel insurance policies anytime you want and get part of the premium refunded if paid annually? Is it allowed to charge early termination fee?

      • Yes they can. I believe it is $40 in this case.

      • Let's hope they extend the promo. I can take out the new insurance up to 60 days in advance. I'll check back in April.

  • How is claim experience with virgin??anybody had to go through at all?

  • +1

I just received my $100 GC from this last month.
From the T's&C's i can cancel and reapply?

    • It does appear so. Just make sure you sign up as a new member I guess?! Good luck!!

    • Cancellation fee would probably be more than the $100 giftcard?

      • I don't think they charge a cancellation fee.

        • A comment on here said there was a $40 admin fee + might lose one month of premiums. Probably close to $100 I'm guessing?

    • Hi Mate,
Does the $100 GC come 7 days after signing up? (the wording of 65 days etc is confusing to me - english is not my 1st language)

      • +1

Unfortunately you have to hold the insurance for 65 days, they send you a link to your gift card 7 days after this.

        • i think that is a fair approach. Worked out a lot cheaper than my current RACQ $800 odd to $450 (with added choice of repairer) for my Golf GTI 2012.

ING (underwritten by AutoGeneral) has the exact same interface and the Quote was $550.

Practically paying $350 with the Gift card. I plan to use the gift card on groceries (so productively) so this is a really a bargain!.

  • Holy mother of baby jesus I've never seen a car insurance request so many details, Im surprised they didnt ask for my blood type..

  • op posted ref ""Not available to customers who have purchased through the website"" do you have to call up and apply over phone to qualify for gift card or can you apply for car insurance online and still get the gift card?

    • +1

Just don't apply using this website https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/ or third party. Use the url I've listed above.

I haven't received the GC as yet , but can confirm I qualify as the email sent to me for both car and home mentions the gift card promo.

  • +1

thanks i applied online hope i dont have to fight them for gift later on.

    • Hope so too. Based on previous dealings with them should be ok. Have gotten velocity points from them previously .

  • Received my 2 $100 giftcards few days ago. Happy days :)

    • Received mine but its expired

      • Huh really? You didn't activate in time ?

        • NVM. I had read the expiry date the wrong way. Thought it was 2020. It expires 21.04.2120.

        • Do we have to use it within 90 days of activating it?

    • Was it physical gift card or electronic?

  • Deal has expired now however has been extended with $50 gc now until August.
