  • I showed this web page to a DSE Noarlunga employee today and asked if they could match the DSE web site price. The staff member said definantely not. So I went to BigW where they had the console for $349. One glance at my iphone was all the BigW staff member needed to lower the price to $249. Nice work.

Top marks for BigW. Not so much for DSE. (Yes, I realise Woolworths owns both and ultimately the sale goes to the same bunch of shareholders :-)

  • Thx heaps dude! Just both one online, will pick it up from Balcatta store!

  • My one comes with firmware 3.66. Is it any good? Or should I update?

    • +1

I think 3.55 and below is the 'good' one. And you NEED to update if you intend to play online.

      • :(

      • Confirming that above 3.55 you can't do any funky stuff to it. 3.55 or 3.41 are the versions people want. That said I'm trying to sell my 3.55 with 500gb HDD and having no luck.

        • depends on how much you want for it I guess

        • Well I started out at $350 since it's a launch (backwards compat) model but dropped to $300. Still no bites.

  • I just got mine from Dick Smith. I was wondering if everyone had there box sealed with one square piece of tape? I just assumed there would be a sony labelled seal.

    • It was one square piece of tape on one side and was not in the middle, the other side didnt have any tape. I asked whether its returned or not, the sales guy said its brand new.

      • Same with mine. I'm glad it was tamper proof as it took some paint from the box when you ripped it off. All in all the cables were in original packaging and everything seemed new so can't complain

        • ya, same here, just noticed after reading your post.

    • My PS3 from BigW was the same. Contents all look new and in their original packaging.

  • whats their (DSE's) return policy like?, is unwanted gift ok for returns?

    • My local DSE has a sign on the front desk saying change of mind returns are not allowed. DSE once took back such purchases but it appears some people were abusing the offer.

  • the sign in the store i saw said the advertised price expires 25/12/11, for what its worth. saw a similar thing with the sony 46" tv a few weeks ago, and the price went higher after the date on the ticket was hit.

  • Got one. $249. Awesome.

  • Thanks! Pick mine up from Belmont at lunch time today.

  • Looks like online delivery is sold out.

  • Bought one today. Looks new to me!
No pirated movies on the hard drive.

  • Hey guys,

I am really tempted to purchase this, what is the price like compared to the standard price out there? I was told PS3s have dropped in price over the past few months plus i am wondering if post Xmas it will drop even more….? I know there have been 199$ specials on occasion but i think thats without a hdd.

    • +1

First, the only 120 GB PS3 sold for 199 was the one at Toy R Us. Otherwise it rarely sells for under 300 bucks, even for the 120 GB. This 160GB normally sells for 400 with 1-2 games so 249 is definitely a bargain, at least it's a 100 buck save. Second, X-mas is coming so it would be a perfect gift. Right gift, right moment.

  • I thought COTD and a couple of other places had the PS3 for 199$ on those super special days? But i think maybe that was the 4gb one? Maybe i am wrong, they were always sold out way before i could get to them.

    • Don't think COTD ever has more than 5 in stock when they have those sales. Refer to http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/55913

Lots of other places then had clearance sales on the 120gb, like target selling it for $200: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/56538
But it'll be a while before 160gbs go on clearance.
And you're probably thinking of a model of the Xbox 360 Slim which has 4gb space, the current PS3 slims are 160 gb and 320gb.

In the end it's your choice but it might be a while before you see another deal as good as this.

    • They once sold it for 349 for a 320GB or 160GB (several months ago though)??? Stocks at COTD are always dodgy so I reckon it must be a miracle to get one.

  • Strange, tried to use this promotion code this morning to order "click and collect" (since it is not available for home delivery anymore), DSE website doesn't recognise this code anymore. Oh well.

  • I used it this morning and the code seemed to work.

  • best place to buy cheap / 2nd hand games? online or in store? Ebay? Would like to stock up on some games, especially co-op campagin multiplayer games on the one console. Like Uncharted. but also get some online multiplayer games like COD, Fifa etc.

bah placed the order but then when a few hours later when i called up to go and pick it up they said they are out of stock and cant honour the price anymore.

  • I found a branch that has stock but they wont honour the price as they are telling me its an online only deal and only valid if they have 3 or more in stock which they dont….. Sounds a bit dodgy to me, i thought DSE should always match their own stores / other stores?

    • Screw them then. Match it at another branch or at another store(maybe HN?), show them your DSE invoice.
They're always reluctant on giving out a cheaper deal even though it's their policy.

      • will HN match an online price or the standard store price? AS the 25$ discount is a online code, maybe i should just find another branch that has stock.

        • I've had JB offer to pricematch the $249 price yesterday and so what if it's an online code? You can still pick it up for $249 and that's what matters.
And don't just go driving around hunting down stores, call them first!

  • JB Hifi gave it to me for $197 after trading Fozda 4 and BF3. $80 trade-in value

I ended up visiting game trader to pickup a HDMI cable for $24

  • I called big w, but they wouldnt price match it, they said too much of a discount :(. I might try JB again and tell them the price.

    • Like I said they will honour the $274 sales price!

Not the online special for $25 to bring the cost down to $249

  • Hmm… ordered one to pick up at DSE in North Parramatta last night. After millions calls, they told me it had been sold out.

Not good customer at all. Now sold out everywhere.

  • edit: nevermind, not really relevant to the topic

  • In the end i went to a far away DSE store to pick up my PS3 ;), hopefully its worth the 25$ discount. None of the DSE stores around here (if they had stock) would give me the 25$ discount unless i did it online and on online it just stated it was low stock so to call the store.

I tried a couple of JBs and Big Ws but none of them were willing to give the online discount so just did a trip to a DSE store that had stock and reserved it for me.
