$300 JB Gift Card When Upgrading Your Existing Telstra Mobile Plan to $69/Mo for 12 Months @ JB Hi-Fi (in Store)

230

This just popped up on my phone earlier. Looks like a good deal if you're already on one of the higher priced plans (I'm on an expired JB $65 12 month plan). Available in store only.

The $69 Plan comes with Unlimited Calls and 80GB Data for 12 months

  • Not just for existing, but also for new plans.

  • every now and then this credit goes up to $400-$500 if you leave to another provided for 30 days and return back

    • +1

Usually existing Telstra customers are excluded from those ones. This one doesn't require porting in and out

      • +1

agree but as ozbargainers most opt to go out and come back for a higher credit. It would typically only cost $15-30 to leave on a pre paid service and get a greater credit. Its great for someone who doesn't wish to go through the hassle.

Spoke to a JB rep yesterday and they mentioned it's currently a $400 giftcard for the $69 plan

      • In store or over the phone? I'm two and a half hours from a JB. I'm on a finished JB $65 plan.

        • That was over the phone - the $400 gc offer may only apply to new services/port-ins

          • @teh_gimp: Ah righto, thanks. I got $500 12 months ago when it was advertised at $300, but I was instore.

      • Can confirm this is the case; went into JB today and was able to create a new account with $10 credit for the first 12 months, 20GB of bonus data, and a $400 gift card.

In total, this makes the regular $69/mo. 60GB plan into a $59/mo. (for 12 mo.) 80GB plan plus the bonus gift card.

    • I do this once a year, paid for my keyboard /mouse setup

Just got the same message, also out of contract on the $65 JB plan.

I'm on that plan now, but Telstra really doesn't do it for me. The worst reception I get from any of the big 3 networks (I have used them all, for many years).
This is for Melbourne's South East.

Their rewards program is pretty good though.

    • "Their rewards program is pretty good though."

Does this apply to JB plans too, or just Telstra direct plans?

      • Anything on a telstra bill

      • OneMariachi is correct, you get billed by Telstra and the product on your bill is called 'JB Hifi & Good Guys Plan'. So you can use Telstra's app & reward system.

        • The Telstra plus rewards program is only good when you happen to find a price error AND that order gets fulfilled. Other than that, the earning rate and value is probably worse than Flybuys or Woolies (which, except for the bonus points, is pretty bad already).

    • I'm in a similar situation; my $65 JB/Telstra plan went past the 12 month mark and I reduced it to a $55 one, however given this is my first experience of Telstra coverage after years with Virgin/Optus, the coverage at home in SE burbs seems worse.

I did get free Binge via Telstra rewards, so not all bad. Anyone know whether that'll cancel if I port out (not a deal-breaker)?

      • They said my $0 Binge payment been declined after I port out in Dec.

  • I am currently on a jbhifi telstra plan and was wondering if anyone knows of Optus or another provider ever have deals like this for Port-in new customers. I wouldn't mind taking advantage of one for a while before porting back to telstra one day

      • 24 months thought.

        No thanks.

    • HN are generally the only blokes who would do Optus.

    • They have 12 months plan

$65 PM for 12 months with $400 HN gift cards (You get Optus sport as well)

      • Just be aware, the 12 month plan is 60 Gigs of data. But free Optus sport is a bonus if you follow (Engish) football.

    • thanks for the replies guys, i will check these out. The 24 month contract is probably a no-go for me too, but the 12 month plan could be worth it. Optus sport is of no interest to me, but maybe i could give it to a family member. Cheers

  • Got this too. Won't be able to claim the $10 per month "port in" bonus being an existing Telstra customer.
    Anybody can confirm if it's a $400 or $300 JB Hi-Fi GC?

  • I am wondering, can I "down grade" my current $99 plan (-$10 monthly credit) to this?

    • You can get an idea in the Telstra app. Go to Services - Your Plan - Manage - View Contract Details, and it will tell you if any costs apply to change plans.

      • Right.. it says $0 on switch plan and $515.76 on cancel plan. Might switch then?

  • I’m on telstra plan, not jb hifi plan, can I switch to JB one and get credit?

    • nah

      • Are you sure? So non-Telstra can get $400, JB-Telstra $300 but nothing for Telstra-Telstra?

        • Maybe Harvey Normal will give you $500 to go from Voda to JB hifi telstra.

Nice try Telstra, trying to get me to give up my $35 50gb plans…

    • +1

Thats what Im on haha no way Im upgrading anytime soon.

    • how can I get that?

      • -2

        Simple. You can't.

        • That hurts me

      • It was the $45 + double data + $10 porting rebate offer from 2019.

    • Likewise I am on $35 for 55gb.

  • Would this work if you’re on Boost?

Edit: Nvm not eligible if you’re on Boost

The plan is still $828 a year. That's crazy.

  • Keen to understand why people use Telstra instead of an MVNO? So much cheaper.

    • Cell priority.

      • Never lost connectivity with MVNOs for over 5 years. What is so important that if 0.01% your call doesnt go through, you are willing to pay extra. As a business, I totally understand but personally ….really?

        • +1

Calls are fine, it seems to be data that's the issue in the congested cells.

I switched from Telstra getting 80-90mbps to Woolies and couldn't get above 5mbps when I first switched.

Tested with my wife's Telstra phone at exactly the same time and got the same results. I've done other tests since then and hit the same ~90mbps I had on Telstra, so it may have just been a weird glitch during the first week on the service.

So far I haven't noticed any slow downs or issues in streaming or general use outside my wifi.

  • i mean you cant just get the gift card and cancel can you ? or switch out to a plan that is $30 or less per month ?

    • Err no it's on a contract so it has ETF

      • ETF = electronic transfer ?

        • Early termination fee

I signed up today at Eastgardens store for the $69 and received the $400 gift card.
