    Welcome back buddy!

  • I missed the place to put in the code can you please help?! :`(

  • As I'm not a Citizen man, can someone more knowledgeable with their range enlighten me, are the majority of their models cased in China/Thailand (with Japanese movement) like say Casio's stuff, with only the really expensive, premium models being fully Japanese made?

    • Probably. For Seiko you will be paying $1000+ for hand built in Japan.

Swatch is built in Switzerland but its totally automated.

  • +1

WN, welcome back. And does anyone know which watch costs $139? Or has it already been OzBargained?

    • You need the table - easily viewed on PC browser - https://starbuy.com.au/citizen-eco-drive-black-leather-aw114… ?? code NERD5

      • +1

Thanks. I find the AT0200-21L my kinda watch, design-wise. But I have already got a bunch of watches that I never wear so…….

        • +1

          It's $149 NERD1

I'm in the same boat. I'm looking but I'm also looking at my last acquisition and wondering whether I wear it enough these days in the age of phones and wearables. Feel a bit sad for classic watches industry

  • I'm interested if people still use watches and where do you wear them?
I find it hard to give up the information, alarms etc I get from my mi band. Also in formal situations, no watch can be better than wearing a watch. So I'm wondering what situations would you wear it in, if you didn't want to give up everyday smart watch capabilities?

    • +1

Some jobs have a no ‘electronic device policy’, which means no smart watches (or bands), but a regular time piece is okay.

    • +1

Its a social indicator. There's been a resurgence in watch brand snobbery over the past decade. People may look the same in any social situation, but watches can be a real differentiator. If you wear a no-name brand, Swiss brand, quartz vs mechanical, dive watch, dress watch etc it tells a lot about you. There are watch ads in all the mens magazines.

If somebody is wearing a $3000 Swiss Longines or a $200 automatic Seiko it tells me they take some thought in their appearance. Citizen is a quality Japanese brand with their own style.

If somebody is wearing a $3000 Swiss Longines or a $200 automatic Seiko it tells me they take some thought in their appearance

The example seems more like a wealth indicator rather than a style indicator.

      • True except you’d be hard pressed to tell quartz v. mechanical just by looking at someone’s wrist.

    • +5

I wear a mechanical watch everyday, despite owning a smartwatch. I never have to worry about charging a mechanical watch. The features I use my smartwatch for can already be done on my phone, so I don't wear my smartwatch when I'm already carrying my phone.

The only time I'll wear my smartwatch is when I'm out for a run. My watch can stream Spotify so I don't have to run with a phone in my pocket.

Finally it's the aesthetics, mechanical watches just look much better and classier than 95% of smartwatches.

      • Thank you for your response. I replied to your points but I'm not trying to debate.

The charging isn't too much of a problem with the mi band only needing it once every 2-3 weeks.

Sleep data, step counter, silent alarms (useful to not wake anyone or disturb meetings), notifications read from wrist, find my phone are all band features I find hard to give up. I don't even use it for exercise.

Aesthetics is definitely personal preference but I like how the mi band is small and unobtrusive. Whereas having a big watch draws attention and it feels like I'm giving up features to enter into a how wealthy are you contest i.e. Seiko vs $3000 watch.

Any female watches going on sale anytime soon ?/

    • Keen on this too.

    • 39mm is almost tiny by modern standards, may look quite cool when worn by a female.

      • As this guy is so popular and everyone loves his(?) deals I wanna support them but need ladies watch deals

        • Starburns is great, however, in the last dozen weekly sale emails they've sent, zero ladies watches as I recall, and just a few unisex ones.

They had some good eBay deals including ladies watches posted in 2018. Perhaps 'nerd can remind them.

  • +1

Welcome back Watchnerd! You have been missed :)

Thanks OP, great deal, I picked up the AT0200-56L.

Anyone suggest a nice black metal bracelet to match the NH8385-11E ?

    https://starbuy.com.au/citizen-automatic-nh8385-11e/

  • I really like the first watch but I cant bring myself to buy it because i don't really need it.

  • +2

I have FOMO now. Did a quick search for the Citizen Chrono Eco-Drive AT0200-56L. Available for $200 if anyone is looking for a comparison vs $180 here.

  • +1

Only here for the good feels, welcome back!

  • +1

Can't decide on the first one in the list or the last one. Both appeal to me in different ways. Is it wrong if I buy both? lol

    • +1

Last one is sold out now, your decision is now easier, if you have not already bought it :)

  • Was just about to pull the trigger on the BL8150-86L, busy reading up on it, and its sold out :(

  • NERD8 is out of stock. Anyone got it?

    • Bought and awaiting delivery. It's also available from watchdirect.com.au for $359. Not a deal, obviously, but if you're desperate for that particular watch… There might be sign-up promos ???

  • So I might have just bought an BL8150-86L o_O Clicked on the NERD8 link - and it was showing as low stock (whereas last time I checked I only had a notify me option). So I quickly bought one. And now its showing no stock again. Maybe someone cancelled theirs and I got lucky?

  • Just bought the AT0200-56L. Love the look and is exactly what I've been waiting to find for a little while now. First watch with an RRP of over $150 I've ever owned and I'm stoked with the bargain

  • +3

Eco-Drive BL8150-86L just arrived. What a beautiful watch - can now understand it’s popularity.

  • +1

Thanks WatchNerd Got the automatic watch delivered today, I’m definitely now hooked on the automatic mechanism! More sporty looking than I expected, the glow-in-the-dark dots kinda clutter the face. Nevermind, I suspect this will be a gateway watch to other automatics!

  • +3

Watch Nerd, welcome back, and thanks to make me rediscover the vital need to have a watch at my wrist years ago.
