  • This looks like a nice (smaller) alternative to the other MX mouse, nice price too. Need to look into but wish it was dark grey / graphite

Just give it time and it will become dark grey 😄

  • There is a version for Mac, which is $119, is there any difference or just marketing

You lose the usb receiver, and instead of a usb c to usb a cable, you get usb c to usb c cable, iirc.

      • Hmm, so this is a deal then. I think feature/functionality is the same. Can it be configured to left hand person? Looking at the picture I think it can. But did a research it seems it doesn't.

        • +1

You'll lose the two buttons on the side, but otherwise you can customise the buttons to whatever.

          • @ATangk: Thank heaps!

@codinghelloworld: I have an MX2 Master, and bought the Anywhere 2 specifically when I had an injury to right arm. Absolutely configurable for left, and the side buttons were still quite usable once I got used to it. I don't think the 3 would be any different

      • +1

you can buy replacement receivers on Aliexpress

        • +1

Uhh.. I don't mean lose by lost it, but its not included with the package because its assumed you'll connect via bluetooth.

          • -1

            @ATangk: yes it is included.

            • +1

@jeffr: You don’t like to read do you. The MAC version doesn’t.

    • "Is there any difference or just marketing", we talking about Apple or the mouse haha?

It looks like a "refresh" of the 2S version (with USB-C instead of microUSB for charging) and the colour makes a difference for the price on the 3. You can see them all at this search link

I own both. IMO, the 3 is worth it over the 2S.
I always hated the wheel click changing scroll mode on the 2S. The middle button is the small button behind on the 2S. The 3 brings back the wheel being a middle click.
The scroll wheel is much improved on the 3 which is now machined steel and to me, seems like much better quality.
The USB-C connector is a nice addition as well.

      • Damm, the placement of the 2S middle button is gold to me, it works so well; much prefer the toggle of scroll lock/release only on the wheel. Such a pity that middel mouse click is so difficult behind the wheel, same problem with the G903. If you regularly use middle click as I do and without remapping buttons, that is a real problem.

        • For me, 90% of the functionality of the Master range (I have several 2s') comes from remapping the buttons differently for individual programs.
Why else would you pay $100+ for what would otherwise be a normal, if slightly larger than average, mouse?
Does the 3 still have the button behind the wheel? You're just saying they've switched the mapping of the buttons from the 2s to the 3, but they're all still 're-mappable'?

            Quality and longevity?

            • @magic8ballgag: I've had my fair share of duds from Logitech, going back generations - dud built-in batteries, sticking gesture buttons, broken ratchets, failing lasers - all well known faults.
To your point, they have always been very efficient in fulfilling warranty claims.
But many of the Chinese models and name brand rip-offs are just as well made. The biggest difference lies in the software; Rapoo's stuff is an ugly, buggy mess but their mice are tanks.
Windows updates breaking the Logi Options software for the better part of a year, showed me just how much I rely on remapped buttons. Refreshing browsers, pause/play media players, switching virtual desktops, copy/paste gestures, countless in-game buttons….all saving 1000's of 'mouse-miles' and wrist strain.
It's the only reason I keep throwing money at them over the years.

I'd advise anyone who hasn't already, to install and have a play around with Logitech Options. It's pretty straightforward and you can map the buttons differently for each individual application.

              • @reductive: They need Linux software, they have Winblows and MacOS, why not Linux?

              • +1

@reductive: You've had some pretty bad luck by the sounds of it. I've got a Logitech MX Revolution that still functions and have been using Logitech mice and keyboards for well over 2 decades now (since around 1997) and I've never had a single dud. I've had so much longevity out of their products I even bought multiple versions of their K750 solar keyboard (2x Mac and 1x Windows) so I didn't need to transport them back and forth to work each day and I could use the same keyboard at all times.

I'm using the Mac version of the MX Keys and the MX Master 3 now, and as much as I love the K750, the productivity efficiencies gained from the MX Keys far outweighs my desire for the familiar feel of the solar keyboard I had been using for 8 years.

@KangaDrew: Ha, or you've had pretty good luck!
I think my MX Revolution is still sat in it's cradle at the back of the wardrobe, what a beast that thing was. Then the MX Performance upped the game by ditching the cradle - I think it was the first to have the 'darkfield' laser or whatever they tagged it, too.
Like you, I bought into the K750 solar when it came out, my first one stopped recharging within the first few months, but Logitech dutifully sent me a replacement…and that one lasted 5 years without a hiccup until it got nicked.
I haven't kept up with their keyboards lately, though I've gone through a fair few of the Master iterations (and gifted some to family).
Logitech seems to be pretty good at catching the bugs/design flaws within the first few months of release of a new product, and then issuing a new version or variation, fixing the most common complaints. Good business strategy, I reckon.

I'm certainly not bashing Logitech or their products, I just find it odd that many people who buy these things don't know about a huge part of their functionality, but still fell satisfied with their $100+ purchase. I guess the name is old and trusted and if it works, it works.
Could I ask, since you have a fair bit of hands on experience, do you feel the MX Master 3 is a 'proper' upgrade from the 2s? Are their any quirks with the 3 that would make you advise holding off until the "4x", or whatever it will be?

          • +2

@reductive: Mice that don't track well on all types of surfaces can be a pain, the right tech works everywhere (seemingly). That's a good reason in itself.

  • is the middle mouse a button on the new version?

  • +2

    Hey OP,
The USB receiver is not USB C, it's a standard unifying receiver. AFAIK, Logitech do not currently make a USB C receiver.

    • Changed, thanks!

hate the 9.95 shipping ruins the deal and if you use paypal you get charged 1.00 bank transaction fee

    • Just price match at officeworks then.

      • Good idea, you think JB works as well?

Don’t buy the white colour. I have the anytime 2s version of this from a few years back, and a lot of it has faded. The white has darkened as well. Can’t clean it off.

  • 3 hours and OOS already. Great, now even the mice aren't safe!
