this is a cracker of a game… so simple but so much strategy. Highly recommended.

Agreed. "Sly Deal" and "Just Say No" are absolute game changers

My 6 year old kid "forced deal" me and gave me a card to complete one of my sets and took one card to complete his set. In the same turn, he does a "deal breaker" on that complete set and plays another card to complete one more of his sets. Outplayed by a freakin kid…..

Far out - impressive skills for a 6 year old!

I SUMMON DEAL BREAKER AND END MY TURN

        • +3

          lmao get rekt noob

          • @stephendt: haha thats prob what he was thinking

  • +2

Do they still make the one in the red plastic box?

    • +1

Unfortunately I don't think they do. It is so much better than this version!

      • +1

        whats different?

      • Before Christmas it was available at Target, but they don't stock it any more. They've got different shuffle games now. Big W still has it for $10. It's a bit of a lottery and you have to go in store to check stock.

My son kicks my butt almost every time.

This one appears to the the original , American Monopoly.
Not the UK variant most Aussies would be more familiar with.

So no Mayfair, Park Lane, Euston Road etc.

Its all East Coast USA Streets.

    • +11

Both has got nothing to do with us. It doesnt really bother me.

      • I've got a diff variant and it does not matter one bit.

    • Thanks for the tip

    • +1

Received from this deal and it's the UK variant :)

    • that makes it even better

  • Just bought thanks OP.

  • Normally I would avoid anything to do with monopoly because it's such a long game and it's a glorified snakes and ladder once all properties are snatched up.

Monopoly deal is a much shorter game where the objective is to collect 3 properly sets. A 10-15 mins game for 2-6 players. The objective is aided by cards that allows you to steal entire property sets, force swap with another player and a few other mechanics.

Dont expect a high ceiling in skills required as it is still luck based but it's a simple game that doesn't require too much time.

I'd challenge the skill comment, it can definetly be a game of great strategy. There is always the chance you'll have someone pick up three awesome cards and then blast to a win, but 90% of the time the best strategy wins. Its more than just what cards you get, its when and how you play them, and how you balance cash vs. property vs. the rest of the table. Also the table psychology to convince others to gang up on someone else etc plays a big part of it!

      • I would counter that resource management and ganging up are not exclusive strategies to monopoly deals. There are a lot of other board/card games that have the same and on top of that, more depth.

Action cards are: deal breaker, sly deal, just say no, forced deal, double rent, pass go, rent, it's your birthday. It takes 5 quick games to see all strategies.

        • any examples?

          • @The Fixer: Cockroach Poker Royal. Very simple and easy to teach card card with a lot of depth.

Other games I can think of: ticket to ride (europe), everdell, code names duet

  • It's telling me $7.99 delivery. And I have Prime. WTF.

    • Same price at BigW if it doesnt work for you

      • +1

I placed the order then rang them. They'll refund the fee. They couldn't explain why this happened.

    • Weird, I have Prime and it says free delivery.

  • Another way to ruin friendships/family relations.

  • Thanks, will pop it in the camper for rainy trips.

  • I saw the Bendigo bank selling the box version, what is the difference btw the box and this

  • Just ordered one, thanks

  • Very portable card game which has a very gentle learning curve (even young kids can get the hang of the game after a practice round). Good for up to 5 players, any more and you tend to run out of cards too early (you can always reshuffle played cards but then the game becomes full of action cards).

    • Merge two decks, double the fun!

What is everyone getting as delivery estimates?

I am getting the below for NSW Metro:

FREE Delivery 3 - 31 March for Prime members
Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months.

    • Same here in WA

    • Looks like it's gone to backorder now. You can order it now and cancel if it doesn't ship fast enough or you get it from elsewhere in the meantime.

  • How does this compare to the Shuffle version in the red plastic box? card quality? print quality?
    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/shuffle-card-deal-game-assor…

    • I prefer the Shuffle version, comes with a box which is really handy and I prefer the older card design (shuffle comes with older design). The card quality is similar but I think slightly more sturdier for the shuffle version.

Local BigW had heaps left. Thanks!

  • Fun game, but stealing a set with deal breaker card is too much power from one lucky card. Best to make house rules to weaken the card in my opinion.

    • Me and my girlfriend remove the deal breakers when we play they are too brutal!

  • +1

Good easy intro game for groups on move. Played this throughout our honeymoon in cafes in Scandinavia haha. Any other card games/ super portable board games anyone can recommend? Even a sophisticated gamers style game would be good.

    • +1

my 'go-to' filler card game with my family is Love Letter.

      • Thanks. Ill check it out. Anything strategic or resource based?

      • Agree this is a great game, I have the "Lovecraft Letter" version which is up to 6 players and has an "insane" mode. Adds a bit to the game so recommend

    • +1

You are meant to play a different sort of game on your honeymoon.

      • Why not have both? cue ad music
