I have an older 65" TCL with built in sound bar. Don't expect to be blown away but it's great to have speakers that sound a lot better than what you normally get.
Saves you having to have surround sound on all the time

  • Wow. $13 cheaper than GGC.

  • I have 55 inch version of this.
It’s good value but don’t expect perfection.
    Android is a bit slow.
Doesn’t have the brightness needed for great HDR and Dolby experience.
    Colours are good though
Sound is better than average due to sound bar.
I will recommend spending a few hundred more and get Hisense Q8.

    • Even Hisense Q7 got better picture compared to TCL

My Q8 has some dirty screen effect and The good guys have been a living hell to deal with.

STAY AWAY … They'll handball you to the manufacturer and ignore ACL.

Other than the DSE / gray uniformity I have to say it's great. Just hard to not get distracted by it.

But you'd also have to buy a chromecast or shield TV, and a sound bar. Sure you'd have a better Android and sound with those additions than the TCL but you've also spent another few hundred more on top of the few hundred more for the TV.

I like this TV as it seems like a good overall package for the price, good panel, good android, good sound. Sure you can improve each of those areas with a different purchase but you'd either have to pay a decent amount more of sacrifice one aspect.

      • Doesn't the 65Q8 have a soundbar?

Toms guide just put out an article about TCL Android TVs may have 'Chinese backdoor'. For anyone interested.

TLDR: TCL smart TVs running Android seem to have huge security holes and could even be designed to spy on users around the world. TCL response : Updating devices and applications to enhance security is a regular occurrence in the technology industry, and these updates should be distributed to all affected Android TV models in the coming days.

  • 2021 TVs coming out in next few weeks

  • I've never liked the TCL tvs I've looked out - some of them are so dim they are useless in rooms with windows.

  • I looked at this model last year and it seemed the best value. I looked at a $1800 Sony as well, then the salesman said to get the best experience I needed the $2300 Sony. In the end it just seemed like upselling & I didn't buy anything. Still looking at buying an android tv before the olympics.
