    But no discrete graphics?

    • No, it comes with Intel UHD Graphics 630 integrated graphics

    • +7

this is a work pc not gaming

      • -5

I get that, but $999 for a pc with no graphics card is pushing it.

        • +13

Performance specs isn't all that matters.

This is a Dell Optiplex - these are rocksolid machines that last. For business purposes, this is good value.

@Make it so: And a really small form factor as well, for those conscious about space

        • +2

This think is about 18cm x 18cm x 2cm.. no room for discreet graphics unless it is on board

          • @kowcop: There is room, see below :)

            • +1

@xuqi: There's not room to add a GPU I think is the point, there is a version with a 640 as a chipset on the motherboard but no PCI-e slot. Also that version is only available in the US.

        • +1

What GPU would you expect? A GT 710?

      • -4

well the work I do needs a dedicated gpu so….

You can also install an add-in module (DisplayPort or HDMI) for a triple output system using onboard Intel video.

They do sell a 7080 micro variant with a discrete GPU

Would've been okay if it had 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD but at this price you could build a much better ITX system. You wouldn't be stuck trying to find replacements once the proprietary components inevitably die either.

    • +2

This comes with Windows 10 Pro and 3 year warranty on the system as a whole. If you build an ITX system you need to purchase a license, and you get 1 year warranty on parts only (with the onus on you to find which bit is responsible for failure). There is absolutely no comparison - it is a completely different use case.

      • -2

What parts come with only a 1 year warranty? Every decent PC supplier includes at least 3 year warranty. Some components, like SSDs and PSUs frequently have 5+ year warranties.

And Windows 10 Pro can be bought for almost nothing. Plus you don't have to mess around with Dell bloatware (which consumes about 6GB of RAM at idle).

    • +3

A DIY job has zero relevance compared to this system.

      • -2

Yes, if you're using it for enterprise. But a business wouldn't mess around with upgrading the RAM to a usable amount either.

There's a reason why these are on clearance. Dell made a mistake pairing this CPU with only 8GB of RAM.

        • +1

The system comes with 2x SODIMM slots, so these can easily be upgraded up to 64GB's of RAM.

Opening the unit to access the Ram slots takes <10s, so anyone can upgrade & storage as required with ease.

I don't know why this is negged, it's a good point.

Really don't know what niche this computer is trying to fill.
If you need the processing power (8 cores) it's more than likely you'll need discrete graphics.
If you don't need the processing power you can easily get away with a an equally capable machine with similar reliability for $600, likely a Ryzen/i5 hexacore will crunch through 99% of the tasks at the same speed but far cheaper.

Par for this price point would be as @ComfortablyNumb has stated.

These systems are very fast for work applications like Outlook and Office etc. I am using ome with i5 Vpro and very happy with the speed. It is very tiny

    • So is my Core 2 Duo.

  • +2

Got a few of the older model 9020m with i5. Sticked an SSD in it and Windows10 boots up in less than 20 seconds. Great for browsing the internet and watch Netflix/Prime Videos etc.

This is a Micro Form Factor - really small, and you can mount behind your monitor.
Think of it like an alternative to a NUC (in a different shape/dimension).
It's about the size of a large usb dock/3.5" external HDD.

If you're real keen on one of these, then you might be better off keeping an eye out on the Dell Outlet.
I picked up a 3050 MFF with i5 a couple of years back for less than half of this price.
Works well for what I wanted (a tiny pc).
Mine even has a NVME slot in addition to the existing 2.5" slot.

    1. What's the difference between this and 7080? (Aside from the obvious spec - e.g. cpu, ram etc)
    2. What ram spec does it use?
