Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong as I am still seeing "subs" posts even though they're supposed to be filtered?

      https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/78923/87025/screen_sho...

      • You shouldn't be seeing any of those deals in New Deals. You shouldn't be seeing any of those deals on the front page if you have selected Front Page-New.

See Help Page about Deal Customisation

        •

I see. Thanks, my view was Front Page-List previously.

This is not an addition just stating what's showing. I disagree with you, admin should remove it.

How is this a deal or Bargain ? Also why are you promoting a movie here ?

    • +1 vote

This is the way… it's bs but that's how it is

      • +7 votes

        How is this a deal???

    • +2 votes

I've seen [SUBS] series/movie deals posted here before, so why pick on this one?

      • +3 votes

All SUBS "deals" are BS imo, nothing against this specific post. Would only take someone continually spamming random movies in Netflix's library for a few days to highlight this.

        First up:

My understanding is OZbargain is more about deals, bargains, Freebies etc ……….. since multicultural people lives in Australia and if everyone starts putting there own culture events and movies on this platform as deals……..we will loose the essence of this platform.

    this deal ?
Then we might have 1000s of deals on this forum with every Netflix and Amazon hosted non English movie wt sub-titles.

Common Sense needs to take control of the wheel at some point .

    • +8 votes

      Agree.
This completely irrelevant even in forums.

  • +4 votes

Thank you, I wouldn't have heard about this movie if this wasn't posted. I will be watching Drishyam tonight, then the sequel!

  • +2 votes

This will be deal ONLY if it was paid previously and offered free for a limited days.

  • +6 votes

wtf? there are hundreds of films being added to different streaming platforms everyday. HOW COME THIS A BARGAIN? You came to wrong place my friend.

    • +4 votes

Never seen a answer to this. Mods just always say "these can be hidden". Great, but why are they allowed in the first place?

      • There is a discussion thread that you can see why the community wants and doesn't want things. Discussion. We can't be everything for everyone but we can try to ensure community members who want to see Subscription deals e.g. this recent one with 84 votes are happy and put in place filters so people who don't want to see these deals can just block them.

Again, please discuss in Discussion Forum about Subscription Deals.

        • +2 votes

Thanks for the link. Seems the results of the vote decided the majority don't want the posts on the site. The vote was also for Xbox games. I think you'll find even less people would vote yes for movies, considering movies are worth less than a video game, especially the B grade stuff that gets posted on streaming services.

          • +2 votes

@PainToad: To be fair it looks like it was a 40%/60% split. I agree with the mods on this one since they also offer a way to not see these "deals" (which I just did).

        • +1 vote

Sounds stupid to me. In case this post, the upvotes you talk about are on the comments which say "this is not a deal or bargain, shouldn't be here".

  • +3 votes

I used to live in India eons ago and feel this is not a deal and doesn't belong here IMO.

Maybe the forums are a better place for it?

  •

hahah Never seen this kind of deal before

First part didn't have any action sequences.

This is not a deal otherwise a terrible deal

  • +6 votes

I love South Indian movies, there are so many classics! I am certain Prime hid this deal because they dont want to crash their servers with so many people watching. Can we do the needful and get a South Indian movie tag so I can filter them all at the top of my ozbargain front page?

  • -2 votes

Just watched the movie. Below average. Not a deal

  • +4 votes

So is the subtitles the deal? Because a new show on a subscription service certainly is not.

    • +4 votes

Cmon we’re downvoting here, don’t spoil our crusade

  • +3 votes

Not a deal. it is just one of the movie out of other 1000s of movies available in Amazon Prime. It is free from the start, not like it was $10 before and now its free.

Interesting, from a quick search on Wikipedia:

“Drishyam became the second film to complete 100 days in the UAE after Titanic (1997) and later emerged as the longest running film in the UAE by completing 125 days, beating the 110 days run of Titanic.”

@DBBROS: negative vote against post (it's not a deal), not against Malayali or the movie .

How is "released direct to streaming" a deal?

  •

Damn. Deal got more negs than Melbourne’s last round of COVID testing post lockdown.

  •

May Ozbargain be flooded with stuff like this, since it's allowable.

    Bring on le garbage!

  •

I give it a plus without this post I would not know this movie was out, I rely on the subs but it's as good as the first movie, watched it last night.

  •

I will watch the movie, but it is not a deal, some over enthusiatic Mohanlal fan promoting it in the wrong forum.

    •

Wrong forum, enthusiatic Mohanlal fan promoting. And you still watch the movie. I think that serves the purpose of this post.

  •

One of the major reason for this post, for some reason it doesn't show up on the search in Amazon prime but this link takes you straight up.

What's next? Links to Rupert news articles you can't find on FaceBook

  •

definitely not a deal its a pure promotion. amazon prime website can filter new release by language.

this post should be taken out of deal section

    https://www.amazon.com/s?i=instant-video&bbn=2858905011&rh=n...

  • +4 votes

I agree this is not a deal and so is this other post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/605814 and may be few others. All those who are commenting this is not a deal, why not do the same with the other one? Why only pick on this one and some even stated that this post is a cultural promotion. So any posts for English movies is not cultural but anything else is?

Drishyam became the second film to complete 100 days in the UAE after Titanic (1997) and later emerged as the longest running film in the UAE by completing 125 days, beating the 110 days run of Titanic.”

Could it have something to do with the fact that 80% of the UAE population are in fact Indians?

    • +1 vote

Not sure, where you pull you facts from.Uae s Indian population is less than 27% currently, maybe less in 2013. This movie did well because it was a good one.

      •

        Source

        Emirati 11.6%, South Asian 59.4% (includes Indian 38.2%, Bangladeshi 9.5%, Pakistani 9.4%, other 2.3%), Egyptian 10.2%, Filipino 6.1%, other 12.8% (2015 est.)

If I'm not mistaken, Pakistanis and Indians are able to mutually understand each other due to the similarities in their languages.

        • +1 vote

Pakistanis and Indians speak different languages. Hindi is main language in India. Urdu in Pakistan. The movie in question is in Malayalam. Targeted audience is South Indians, means Indians who speak Hindi will not watch it unless they want to go by Sub titles.Still it managed to do very well breaking record back in 2013.

According to this, population of Indians in UAE is still under 30% . No way near as 80% as you claimed before.

          • -1 vote

@solidsnake: A random blog is more accurate than the CIA? You have lost the plot here. Hindi and Urdu are mutually tangible. The only way this movie could have done well is if they dubbed it in Hindi and fed it to the Urdu and Hindi speaking population in UAE.

            • +2 votes

@BrutallyHonest: I think you lost the plot here. If you don't realise the difference between Hindi and Urdu, can't help as it's different language. And FYI this movie target audience is South Indians and never been dubbed in UAE in either Urdu not Hindi.

            • +1 vote

@BrutallyHonest: Same CIA that said WMD in Iraq and Russia helped elect Trump. Just because they release something don't mean you have to believe it.

        • +2 votes

You are mistaken when you say Pakistanis and Indians can mutually understand each other. Pakistanis can understand the language form Northern India, and people from North India can understand Urdu. However, the language of the movie in question here is Malayalam which lot of people from India can not understand either. People from India speak different language in different states/regions.
