I can confirm that it works on existing accounts

  • this code works on existing accounts. thank you.

  • +1 OP, worked on my existing premium account.

Better buy 1-year Kaspersky Total Security for 10-15 box from eBay or occasionally SaveOnIt which includes Kaspersky Password Manager Premium for free.

    • +3

      Except … you know …. it's Kaspersky.

For $10 you can get a year of BitWarden.

      • +2

For $0 you can get an eternity of Windows Defender.

      • I have tried Bitwarden before but decided to stay with Kaspersky as I found its autofill and password gen to be much better placed (within the field, rather than having to click on a button on the browser toolbar or right clicking and choosing auto fill). For the same price, I still think Kaspersky is a much better choice unless you don't trust them with your passwords, which I do.

        • Was on LP until switching to BW.
LP has the in-field fill icons and it's a pain more than a help.
I have just assigned auto-fill to alt-a - works great.

  • Can you guys trust someone else keeping your passwords?

    • +15

They can't see your passwords. If you prefer open source use Bitwarden.

I partially switched from LastPass to Bitwarden recently and am really happy with it. Planning to move my whole family over.

        Self-hosting ability is awesome.

        • Same here

        • same, took 5 mins to switch over and seems just as capable

          • +1

@SBOB: I switched over about a week ago, after LastPass announced their diminished freebie. Lack of SMS and one-touch 2FA are a bit of a drag.

            • @afoveht:

Lack of SMS and one-touch 2FA are a bit of a drag.

              it supports multiple 2fa options?

or you mean no SMS for 'free' level?

I use authy for all my 2fa codes anyway

              • @SBOB: SMS for free. In fact, I don't recall seeing it as a paid option?

I'm using authy too, but LastPass's one touch notification is excellent.

Also, using 2fa while logging in on the Android app was a pita. Luckily that's not required too often.

Another +1 for Bitwarden. Moving from LastPass was a breeze.

      • +1

Moved from LP to Bitwarden last night. Simple and easy process, functionality I need is pretty much the same.

      • Another +1 for Bitwarden. Very easy to use and free.

      • Yep, just switched from LP to self-hosted BW (on a Pi) the other day.
Good to have all the paid features for free.
Android integration is good, as is built-in TOTP (including Steam.)
On Windows, prefer LP client, but BW one is OK.

    • +3

      they dont keep your passwords

they keep a blob of bits, which happens to contain your passwords if you manage to un-encrypt the AES-256 encrypted 'blob'
Brut force this means about 2^255 guesses (ie an incredibly long time is an understatement)

    What's dashlane

    • +2

      A password manager.

  • Thank you so much!

  • +2

What would happen when we run out of premium subscription? Still get access to saved passwords?

    • +2

Yes you would still get access to all of them!

    • +2

One of the major features lost is you lose the ability to login simultaneously on multiple devices.

      • The other is you are limited to 50 passwords. For some people that might be adequate. Not nearly enough for me.

        • Oof… I have 300 :(

          • @Zorlin: Yeah, I’m coming on 500. I personally see the free version as more of a trial or shareware than a viable “free” license.

            • @Smigit: In my experience if your Premium Subscription expires. You get to keep all of them just you cant add more. I had 1400, yes 1400 passwords and when my Premium Acc expired they were all there.

      • I really liked dashlane but the limitations on free version made me move to Bitwarden

  • +1

Lots of chatter on reddit about recent changes: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dashlane/

  • How do we apply to account? I'm subbed to annual

  • +3

Renewal time for my Dashlane account so figured I'd check out the competition. Bitwarden seems to be the most popular alternative, so gave it a shot and I think I'll be sticking with it.

For my usage, Dashlane has nothing which justifies the price difference. The UI is better for sure, but not enough.

Still, a solid product and no major complaints while I was using it.

    • In my case, this code just gave me 6 extra months to check my Bitwarden transition has gone to plan :)

  • Thinking of going with 1password or Roboform, apart from bitwarden (don't think the auto fill is as good as the others) any other recommendations?

    • +1

I'm in the process of migrating to Dashlane from Bitwarden. Tried 1password but wasn't thrilled with functionality.

      YMMV but my experience below.

Really happy with Bitwarden auto fill, particularly on Android where it seems more customisable for unknown apps (remember login or continue to prompt).

Dashlane was perhaps better at auto filling payment details.

Bitwarden's Desktop app isn't as slick as Dashlane's was but that's now a moot point with Dashlane canning it.

No sync conflicts with Bitwarden (password or note change), unlike what I was beginning to experience between Dashlane on PC and Mobile.

Family pricing quite affordable and nice to be able to selectively share credentials

      • +1

Thanks very much for your reply :) I'll do some more testing with bitwarden.

      • You seem to have been pretty happy with Bitwarden. Why the move?

I went from Roboform to LastPass (free) to now 1Password on a 6 month deal which still has a few left. Bitwarden is likely to be the next one.

Edit: though it kinda reads like you went to Bitwarden except for

I'm in the process of migrating to Dashlane from Bitwarden

        • Quite right, sorry. That beer with lunch must have been potent.

So yes, very happy in the actual direction I'm moving, which is away from Dashlane.

      • I'm in the process of migrating to Dashlane from Bitwarden.

Other way around, I'm going from Dashlane to Bitwarden. It's also possible I'm drunk.

    • I was on Dashlane and moved to 1Password last year after testing both it and BitWarden. Was very much considering BitWarden, but at the time it had some fairly significant (/annoying) issues with Safari for Macs which prompted me to look elsewhere. Namely the products vault would never remain unlocked for more then 1-2 minutes so I was constantly having to re-authenticate. That issue was Mac Safari specific and thus wouldn’t impact most people. Also found the mobile experience a touch nicer in my iPhone with 1Password.

That said, if I was to look again BitWarden would be the first one I’d retest.

Funnilly enough I have a free-for-life dashlane premium lite account if you were a long time old customer… if you signed up for dashlane back when it was still free - log back in and take a look. You should have a free for life premium account.

I too just dumped lastpass. I went with dashlane because of the free for life, but otherwise I'd gone with bitwarden.

  • Ok thanks very much :)

  • I've used dashlane daily for over 7 years. I finally deleted my account last month.

Unfortunately theyve removed their desktop app and gone browser extension only. Which i have no issue with in theory…. as long as it works.

It did not work well at all.

I've moved to bitwarden which does most of the dashlane premium features for free (eg. mobile app that syncs with your other devices).

Excellent software, and it's free. Highly recommended.

  • Anyone used Myki (the password manager, not the transit card)

It's kinda like Bitwarden or Enpass where the data lives locally but is auto synced between devices. It's free as well.

Came across searching for password managers after abandoning LastPass.

  • From reading the discussion it seems my suspicions that LastPass are going to eat it after the latest announced changes are confirmed. Can't say I didn't see it coming either after they raised the premium price when LogMeIn bought them. It's a shame really…

  • Like many other people, migrated my family from lastpass to bitwarden (free version) over the weekend, was simple and painless.

  • Cheers, will give them a go!

  • It's worth noting that the VPN only works if you're using a "paid" Premium subscription so it won't work with this offer.

  • My existing Dashlane Premium subscription expires in Dec 2021. Was hoping I could use this deal to extend it but doesnt seem to work. I get "This email address is already associated with a Dashlane Premium account, which is set for auto-renewal"

Has anyone extended their subscription with this deal? Am I doing it wrong?

  • This doesn't seem to be working anymore?
