  • Would this work in my budget b550 mobo?

    • +2

      Yes

  • The 500gb was around $40 on Newegg about 6weeks ago.

    • P1 or P2?

      • This exact same model apparently.

        • link please?

          • @turkz1: It's long gone now, so price is different now.

    • +2

Probably more like $40USD + shipping

  • +1

    This or A2000?

    • +3

      A2000

    • nah i was gonna go a2000, but for the normal use, you wont feel the difference. p2 for the lowest price, its the same price as the p1

    • Primary drive? A2000. Secondary storage, either is fine

  • Is this brand good?

    • +3

It is a budget TLC nvme but will easily outperform sata SSD and hard drives. Its performance is not far behind the Samsung evo but considerably lower price point. Crucial is also one of the oldest manufactures of ram. Reputable brand. Being backed by a 5 year warranty is nice. This is a great option for most. If doing intensive and long writing sessions you probably should consider something better. I just purchased my 3rd one.

  • To anyone looking to buy this one for Synology NAS for cache. This Crucial P2 is not compatible. On the review of this product lots of people complained.

    • +1

      For cache, get mlc.

Amazon back in stock @ $124.88

  • Would it fit my MacBook Pro retina 13 early 2015.??

    Please thank you in advance.

    • +1

      no

has different connection. you need to fork out big bucks for compatible one

    • +1

MacBook users looking for a bargain is like BMW drivers complaining why do they have to visit the mechanic every month.

  • +2

Why are budget NVME's generally cheaper than SATA ssds?

    • Crucial bx500 often goes cheaper than this, but the memory chips between nvme and sata aren't that different, its the interface and controller that result in the speed differences

    • +1

      Dram, tlc qlc.

    • Supply and demand. Laptops have made a big move to nvme over the last couple of years. This drives down the cost of the chips. Sata also requires more parts to manufacture. Eg. Pin connector and enclosure.

    • They bring out a product which is faster, all the reviews cover that product and benchmark the faster drive and then they modify the drive using cheaper parts. These originally came out with higher performing TLC memory, but were replaced by QLC. It is starting to become quite common

  • the heck, i bought it, drops $3 hahhaa

  • Were getting down to a 100$/TB, soon my dream of a SSD only NAS might be feasible! Dunno if enclosures for multiple m2 drives exist yet!

    • yeah very very true here.
DONT FORGET 4% cash back! i cancelled and re-ordered, only 2 left.

      • i don't think there's any cashback because it falls under computers category.

    • $99/TB for the Seagate Barracuda 510 couple weeks back ;-) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/602115

    • +1

Dunno if enclosures for multiple m2 drives exist yet!

Not for the consumer market because this would be quite expensive.

Each M.2 PCIe SSD will use up 4 PCIe lanes. On mainstream systems (e.g. X570/Z490 type) you only generally have 20 PCIe lanes directly to the CPU, which people will usually split up as 16 to the GPU and 4 to the M.2 SSD. All remaining lanes go through the chipset, which acts as a switcher (called a PCH, I think?) and redirects the traffic accordingly, so they are actually sharing lanes to the CPU.

Therefore, for NVME SSD servers, you're basically looking at server platforms such as EPYC which will support 64+ PCIe lanes directly to the CPU. Even then, there are huge, huge issues with trying to get this to work. If you want to have a look, LinusTechTips did a video on this a while ago and it was quite an interesting watch.

More or less, consumer storage will likely move from HDDs to SATA SSDs soon. The enterprise has just moved from SATA to PCIe SSDs over the past one or two years. What I expect is that maybe in 5 years or so, consumer storage will move to PCIe SSDs and the enterprise will move onto Optane. Obviously when I say storage I mean mass storage.

Is this better than WD Blue SN550 M.2?

  • Considering so many deals on storage, is this actually a good deal?

  • There are some which are sold by Harris Technology on Amazon which goes for $124 should i risk it and get it instead of the ones sold by amazon?
