If you blacken out the brand name, who would pay $55 for a set of plastic chopping boards?

    • +7

Same goes for every brand name product,

Material, manufacturing and design is what your paying for.

A $500 LV wallet is not the same as the $50 wallet you buy in paddy's market -

      • Can you tell us how the materials or manufacturing of this board will be better than a no name brand?

    • RRP $110 for a set of plastic chopping boards?

  • What size are these?

    • Hi,

      Features:
Designed in the UK by Damian Evans for Joseph Joseph.

Hand wash recommended for board holder.

      Set Includes:

      Hi Leon,

OZB rules, poor attitude, no votes, no sales, no store.

      Thanks for your understanding

      Aceboy884,

      welcome to OzB.

Note that buyers fall into 2 categories.
Those that are registered members and those that are not registered.

      1. Most members are not registered. You are unlikely to get votes that come anywhere near sales
      2. Some members will hold off voting to see how good is your service, delivery, the product's quality, etc
      3. Some simply don't vote from time to time.
      4. Attempts to guilt people into voting are not welcome

Homeboutique, will you pricematch COTD's previous deal?

    • +1

I've seen the COTD ones at Costco Sydney for $29. Yes $10 more than COTD deal more than a year ago but $25 cheaper than Homeboutiques'.

      • +1

Should compare like with like. You can buy the cheap ones at KMART for $20. The branded Joseph Joseph are normally much more expensive

Whether they are worth the difference is up to you to decide.

However this is a good deal if you want the branded ones.

        • I'm sure these will pop up on COTD soon too if you're patient!

        • The ones I've seen at Costco are Joseph Joseph, but the Index ones.

But what's the difference between the Index and Index Advance versions?

        • could be the same difference between marc jacobs and marc by marc jacobs ~

        • Went to Costco this morning and funny enough, they sell the proper Joseph Joseph one not the COTD inspired by Joseph Joseph version.

    • I bought some off cotd. They definately are not Joseph Joseph ones. Think I ended buying mine off fishpond. Who are having a sale on some Joseph Joseph stuff if anyone is keen

  • +2

I dont see how a "$100" chopping board can outperform my $2 set of 4 chopping boards I got years ago unless you put food on it and it chops it for you as well as make you a coffee while u wait.

  • +2

Or for that matter, how hygienic it is to store your seperate chopping boards stacked touching side-to-side? Last time I worked in a kitchen (10 years ago, admittedly) we had different colour-coded chopping boards, but stored apart from each other to reduce the risk of food poisoning.

Seems like a design without a niche to me.

    • The boards don't touch when stacked

  • Do I need a special discount code to receive the ice-tray?

  • If it was $39 and free shipping I'd buy it.

Also Aceboy884 how do you recognize Ozbargain buyers so you can provide the ice pack?

'I picked up a Joesph and Joseph cutting board set from costco for $27.00.'
Cost co price $27, source: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/58852#comment-685429

:0 thats our other deal with the knives included -

this is not the cost listing…

      • no I'm sourcing one of our members comments on that page - not referring to the listing.

$27 with the knives included? And this one has no knives… Very confusing

  • fyi while admittedly not the brand name I bought what appears to be essentially an identical set of these from the reject shop for $15 last week as my nan needed some lighter chopping boards. I have to say this appears to be the type of product where quality of manufacturing isn't goin to prove a big challenge for anyone…basically they're just plastic casts, with no moving pieces, in a weighted stand.

  • +2

Funny enough I have a set of Target "JJ knock off" chopping boards at home.

Yes I don't disagree with the comments above, but when you compare the product side by side, there are material difference.

Whether or not you justify to pay 2x the price is up to you.

Non-slip, if you dont care, fine.
Better made plastic, less scratches, more durable - Doesn't matter if you only to keep it for a year.
More refined workmanship, if you care about looks, its better made piece

If your on a budget, this is not for you. But when comparing products, please compare it like for likes.

e.g. An Audi A4 with a 2.4 litre engine is not the same as a Toyota -

But doesnt mean Toyota are shitty cars.

Our store focused on one thing, selling BRAND name products at the lowest prices available -

Not everyone want brand names, but I hope i don't need to go into this debate about design vs practicality all the time.

Afterall the ones you find at Kmart, Go-Low are all copies of the original Joseph Joseph design - Sadly they havent sued the F*CK out of these copies…

But that's not for me to worry about.

I'm just a little fish in the ocean, selling chopping boards :)

    • On this note, i will be posting a deal for Ceramic knifes if we get enough votes (5+) so we can post again on OZB

On the matter of practicality vs price -

Ceramic knife will be an exceptional difference from your $10 target knifes.

We have 7piece sets sold on eBay for $89 delivered -

If we get enough votes to do a new post, I'm looking at doing a deal for $65 delivered :) - thats less than $10 / knife

      • 65 bucks for ten knives. They must be terrible knives. For a company that claims to be focused on one thing, "BRAND name products at the lowest prices", I shudder to think what brand name knives you are selling for less then ten bucks each, let alone ceramic ones!

      • look nice to me. will prob give them a go if they end up being 65

  • +2

The standard model is slightly cheaper on eBay. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Joseph-/150575620600

HOWEVER this seems to be some special version, so I assume its normally at a higher price point.

The whole concept of these is flawed, however. They promote 4 individual boards so that you don't transfer germs (or something?) from meat to veges, etc.

Yet after you cook and eat your food, all the ingredients get mixed together anyway. The concept of individual boards for each food group is only valid if you never wash your cutting boards.

    • +1

Actually the cooking should kill the bacteria but I get your point about the boards being valid if you never wash your boards

  • Um sorry to disappoint but Costco sells this $30 ……

    • Thanks … wishing Costco would put their deals online (though I haven't checked in months)

  • So does anyone know the answer to: what's the difference between the Index and Index Advanced versions of this product?

  • Its JJ attempt to somewhat update their overpriced cutting boards….

"the surface of the storage case now sports a subtle, embossed grid texture and a darker silver hue, making the whole unit even more stylish and desirable."

    Seriously who gives a crap…….

  • Is the holder designed to allow slightly wet boards to drip out through the bottom?

  • How much is costco selling it in stores?

  • Just a note to say these were just sold for $29. I originally asked these guys when they posted if they could do $29 they emailed me saying that was under the price they paid…
