12 TB HDD WD Elements Vs Seagate Expansion

Hi Friends,

I need a 2nd 12 TB Drive and can you suggest which one is better

WD Elements - $290
Seagate expansion - $311

The plan is to buy couple of other 12 TB drives and use is in NAS in the future. I have a business that needs continous use of these drives.

Thank you in advance for your advise.

  • I answered a similar question yesterday… Either one is fine but have backups.

Years ago you'd be ridiculed for considering Seagate. Nowadays, I believe they're the better option for various reasons.

I would go for the Seagate expansion. Have half a dozen of them running 24/7 for years no problem.

  • I've had quite a few WD drives in recent years fail, yet Seagate have been fine.

  • Running 4 WD 8TB and a 10TB in my Unraid for a few years fine

  • I've had excellent luck with 4 WDs and just ordered 4 more. Planning to get about 30 in total.

I wouldn't hesitate to get Seagate if the price was right but just be careful with Exos as they are excellent drives but LOUD AS HELL.
