I bought a Hyundai portable air con from kogan. It's feels like a kogan air con with a hyundai sticker like kogan bought the rights to use the name. The instruction book etc has kogan on it and has something like licensed by kogan on it. Still works good but it feels like your paying a premium for just the hyundai name compared to just buying a kogan branded one.

    • The Hyundai and Kogan splits are from different Chinese manufacturers. The portables are generally best avoided.

I've got nothing against Korean brands (I am a big fan of Kia cars) but when it comes to air con I'm now a lot pickier than I used to be. You even need to be careful with the cheaper models of Japanese name brands as a lot of them are rebadged Chinese models - I bought an entry level Fujitsu recently and it's very evident it won't go the distance that its 10+ year old cousins did.

    • I live in Perth, where the climate is mild, so my aircon does not get a lot of use. Not like say Beijing, where they are heating all winter, and cooling/dehumidifying all summer.

If the AC can last a year in China, it will last me ten years here :-)

      • I agree it's weird right. Air cons in Hong Kong have to work like there's no tomorrow and a good proportion of them would.be made in China. We just seem to get some.overpriced crap at the cheap end of the scale and when you throw in installation costs I'd rather err on something up the quality.scale.

Btw I thought Perth got the 40+ heat waves more than the east coast?

We've had some days close to that recently, but then the sea breeze kicks in, and it cools down at night.
If you have decent insulation and some thermal mass, it is the average temp that matters more than the peak.

Average Perth Feb temp. is about 25C. (20 min, 31 max) And low humidity.
