Not sure if this is only applicable to students, but I just got this email:

Dear Amazon Student member,

We're offering Amazon Student members an additional $10 off already discounted Kindle e-textbooks now through January 9. Kindle e-textbooks can be read on your iPad, PC, or Mac — no Kindle device required. Some restrictions apply. See terms and conditions.

I used the link and added the $10 credit to my Amazon account with no troubles.

Eligible e-textbooks will have a little box saying so.

Here's one you can get for free which is a bestseller:

Jean-Paul Sartre: Basic Writings http://www.amazon.com/Jean-Paul-Sartre-Basic-Writings-ebook/…

Works for all Amazon accounts. Just click the link, sign in, and enter the code following the instructions.

  • Worked for me and don't have a student account.

  • Wow, amazon prime free for students??

Also how do you sign up when the form appears to be only for the US (only shows US unis).

    • I have no idea - I must have done it years ago. Anyway, it appears to work with any Amazon account.

  • Not sure if it will work with Australian student email address, since (I assume most?) ends with edu.au. Its not working for mine anyway.

  • +3

Details were too confusing - DON'T go to student sign-up page! (now updated)
    just click on
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/?docId=1000763191&ref_…
to get $10!!! It works with ordinary Amazon account.
    (Exp 9/1)

('Basic Writings' lists as $4.49 so is only free in that you can buy it with the $10 voucher.)

Eh, please delete this stupid deal. You must:

"be a college student actively enrolled in at least one course at a college geographically located in one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia,"

    • +5

Have you tried just adding it to a normal Amazon account? It worked for wonderboy.

  • +4

It works. Went to http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/?docId=1000763191&ref_… and entered ETXTBOOK. Came up as $10 credit.

Anyone found any interesting e-textbooks that qualify??

    • +1

      Nope, lol.

    • +2

Is there a clear list of qualifying books somewhere, interesting or otherwise?

      • +1

Wish there was - secret Amazon business?
See ozscharfschutze below ("start shopping" link)- it seems to work!
I searched for 'e-textbook' which produced 798 Results!
Then sort by price low-high. Select book & then find out if it qualifies.

eg "Criminal Profiling, Third Edition: An Introduction to Behavioral Evidence Analysis" - a fun read at $63.16 qualifies

but "Don't Believe Everything You Think: The 6 Basic Mistakes We Make in Thinking" (I am thinking I don't want to read this book) at $9.59 does not

and "Paradox and Imperatives in Health Care: How Efficiency, Effectiveness, and E-Transformation Can Conquer Waste and Optimize Quality" (great sedative) $33.56 qualifies for $10 discount

All seem to be dry texts I would have never bothered to read at Uni.

can only buy if it has this

    Kindle e-Textbook Promotion
This book qualifies for Kindle e-textbook promotions. If you’ve applied a valid promotion code to your account, the dollar amount of your code will be automatically applied when you buy this book with 1-click (promotions also apply on 1-click rental orders when a rental option is available).

So it is kinda hard to find which one has it

If you follow the provided link, there is a "start shopping" link that contains all books that qualify as e-books. e.g. found the following for $8.99 :)
      http://www.amazon.com/Ivy-Portfolio-Endowments-Markets-ebook…

      • That works - thanks!
Use Sort, Price Low-high in your category of interest.
Maybe "The Gargoyles of Notre-Dame: Medievalism and the Monsters of Modernity" $7.41 (4stars, 464p)

      You talk funny.

And its not just any kindle book. The item must be a e-textbook. Double check that the item has the following on the page Kindle e-Textbook Promotion
This book qualifies for Kindle e-textbook promotions. If you’ve applied a valid promotion code to your account, the dollar amount of your code will be automatically applied when you buy this book with 1-click (promotions also apply on 1-click rental orders when a rental option is available).

Luckily i've never had a problem with amazon sending to my wi-fi kindle. Books appear as soon as i connect to my network.

  • The Best of 2600: A Hacker Odyssey [Kindle Edition]
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UQO3TM/ref=docs-os-doi_…

seems like a good deal for $4.39 (plus the $10 voucher). Thx kheob

  • for some reason even though it has added the $10 credit in my account, when I buy the textbook which qualifies for the promotional offer, it doesn't deduct the $10 credit and charged me the full kindle price instead.

  • +2

Didn't work for me. Credit was added to my account, bought an eligible text, but it charged my card and after the order confirmation came through I checked my "digital promotional balance" and the $10 credit was untouched. So I returned the ebook.

Pretty sure you'll need to enter a US billing address for this one to work.

  • This is a good one for ozbargainers:

Learn to Earn: A Beginner's Guide to the Basics of Investing and Business [Kindle Edition]
    Peter Lynch

    http://www.amazon.com/Learn-Earn-Beginners-Investing-ebook/d…

    $8.35

  • Got the $10 but didn't seem to work for me when I tried to buy this book (charge my credit card instead):

    http://www.amazon.com/Open-Government-Collaboration-Particip…

    It say that:
    • This promo code is available to customers located and with billing addresses in the United States. You must have an Amazon.com account.

Can anybody with an Australian address verify that this work?

  • +2

Works for me. Only issue is finding an interesting e-textbook under $10…

  • Sorry guys but I can confirm this doesn't work.

You will be able to add the code, but upon purchasing an eligible item, you'll be charged the full amount (due to not meeting the eligibility requirements regarding a US billing address). On any other website you would have had a chance to notice the total amount not working, but Amazon's dodgy 1-click prevents this.

Luckily Amazon chat support were great and issued me a $10 promo certificate without any argument. If anyone else has been caught out, I strongly recommend you contact Amazon to get this as well.

  • Not sure what went wrong with you, but it worked for me…
