I noticed OP highlighted 46mm case but if you take off the shroud it's 40mm. I bought one recently and looks great. Here's a good review.

    • Haha he mentions that Starbuy have them at the bargain price of $349.00.

      • +3

        WatchNerd you magnificent bastard.

        • +1

I love a good Seinfeld quote.

FYI - the Starbuy price he mentions is for the SNE543P.

@WatchNerd: Good to have you back mate. My Mickey watch shouldn’t be far off. 😎

    • Did you take the shroud off yours?

I started the checkout at Star Buy a couple of times yesterday but got cold feet.

It looks great without the shroud, from front on at least. A little concerned it won't look quite right though, with the crown sticking out and the screw holes in the case being visible.

      • +1

I did take it off. I was a little concerned about the holes as well but since the case is black you're not going to notice it at a glance. The crown sticking out doesn't bother me either. My 6.5" wrist looks fine imo

I just pulled the trigger, this is god damn gorgeous! ZIP pay FTW. Hahaha, can't believe I've entered myself into the world of debt

  • +1

    So is it solar powered?
How does it charge? I can't see the panels..

    • +4

The dial is the solar panel.

  • +1

    Damn couldn't resist.
    My second Seiko this week!

    • +1

      King Turtle posted earlier?

      • +1

        That’s right

  • Noob question: do you have to adjust the date display every month?

  • I have an eco-drive, what's the difference btw the two?

    • +2

Citizens branding of solar is Eco drive. Seiko just call theirs solar

      • +2

Thanks, I think I paid $100 for my eco-drive but then this Seiko is a diver

  • +7

Just a comment on reliability. I have a Seiko solar watch, from 20years ago, I wear it daily. Never had to service it, never broke down, no problems whatsoever.. incredible really. Even if it broke down tomorrow, definately the most reliable electronic device I've ever owned.

    • Had a Casio GW3500B-1A Men's G-Shock Alarm Atomic World Timer Watch.
The plastic wristband keeps breaking every year as it wears off.
Finally I gave up after trying to replace for the 3rd time.

      • To be fair mine is stainless steel case and strap.. YMMV I suppose.. also note Seiko make some high end watches like Grandmaster etc which rival the Swiss mechanical watches etc, so Seiko know how to make a decent watch.. and they're made in Japan, rather than outsourced to a subcontractor OEM

    • same … invent work mine in 10 years, one of the numerals fell off, so i put the watch by the window to keep it charged ….about 20 years and still going ….. i’m very impressed with the citizen and seiko solar technology …

  • +1

Very nice deal. If I hadn't bought two chunky eco-drive Promaster divers in the last two weeks, I'd have jumped at this.

  • +2

I really don't like the look of this watch. My brother tells me I'm very old school with my watches. But can't find the appeal of these new designs.
I much prefer this. (Although it's a cheap automatic)
    https://starbuy.com.au/seiko-automatic-srpa26k/

    • +2

Ha, yes, if that style appeals to you, you're most likely not going to like these chunky tuna can style dive watches!

    • +1

you need both the slim “dress watch” for the office and to save wear on shirt cuffs, the diver for weekends, working in the garden, holidays etc …. i have styles over time have moved more to my divers when not in the office.

  • 10 month power storage says on that youtube video, anyone confirm that? My 8 year old seiko solar won't last a month inside my home office, don't use lights much so just dies.
What is starbuy return like for change of mind?

    • +1

I'd recommend leaving the house more than once a month, for reasons other than charging your watch, but having a charged watch as a good side effect

      • haha, i mainly use a apple watch, but yeah should use it out more often.

  • Got one thanks OP

  • +1

What's the difference between the J and P designations?

  • If I didn't just buy a Vostok the other day I would get this.

  • +1

I have this watch and bought it last time it was on sale same price. Great watch and highly recommended at this price!

Last time it was August 2020.

Welcome back watchnerd we've missed you an hope you are well.
This is a nice looking watch with good specs, made in Japan and as it's from Starbuy you don't have to worry about fakes or dodgey seller …piece of mind is a big thing.
In last 2 months I have bought the blue Bulova marine star and the blue citizen promaster .
I would have jumped on this deal if the funds were not so hard.

    • Hey Mortis, I'm thinking to purchase the orange Bulova Marine Star but, so far what do you think of the product?
Do you have any recommendations for strap replacement?

      • +1

        Hi kangverrel..
I think you will be very impressed with it my only criticisieem is that it's hard to read at the 7 o'clock mark due to the skeleton feature but that could be due to the white dial an my crap eyesight.
Power reserve is good I get 2 days on full charge.
There is zero reflection even in full sunshine …in fact the dial seem to glow making reading easier.
I was contemplating a mesh band but I found the blue silicon band very very comfortable and it really is an eye catcher I get a lot of complements on it.
Watchnerd might be able to shed more light on this but I believe Bulova are dropping the tuning fork logo which I believe is the the quintessential Bulova and a huge mistake.
This watch is solid, has a nice size and wears well, still has the tuning fork logo and mechanically I can't fault it.
Buying from Starbuy gives you peace of mind and at their current price you get a lot of watch …. Buy it you will not be disappointed.
Hopefully this has been of some help

        • Bit hard to buy now that you have to wait 6 months for the deal to be active again.

          • @tor: Ring up Starbuy and have a change see if you can get a deal.

            • @Mortis: No go. It's up there for $399 now.

  • all over, red rover.

  • wonder how many got sold?

    • There was like 57+ in stock yesterday.

  • Bummer! Just needed to wait for the cash, and now the deals gone!

  • Anyone know where i can get the same but black band for this watch?

  • +1

got mine today ! beautiful and superb quality watch from Seiko , pleasant surprise it didn't look too big of my 7 inch wrist :)

  • Just received it and starting to wear it.
What a great watch for the money.
My first quartz Seiko made in Japan.

  • Mine just arrived today.
It's even more beautiful in person.
    Thanks @WatchNerd!

  • Hate you ozbargain

When I first read the comments I was like wtf are these guys on about the watch is ugly.

Received mine today, and yes, damn you guys, now I’m going to end up being a watch collector, this thing is a lot more sexy in real life

    • Invest in a watch box so you can keep them all in one location.
I just bought one off Amazon.

  • Just received mine! Was planning on having it without the shroud due to my relatively smaller wrist but it actually wears fine. Feels no bigger than the GA2100 on my wrist.
The strap is super comfortable but looks thick where it overlaps and doubles up so might swap that out.

  • Do you have any go to sites for leather watch straps Watchnerd?
