    Reviews seem pretty bad

  • Airbnb compatible 🤔

  • I would rather buy this: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07GQ2VLSD
Just waiting for the price to drop down to around $350 AUD, which doesn't seem to be happening any time soon.

    • I'm considering the zigbee model of that one. Bit worried about the reviews that say it arrived used or damaged though.
Annoying that it'll be about $60 more buying in Australia and would have to buy from 2 different shops

Bit worried about the reviews that say it arrived used or damaged though

That is a possibility since the box itself is not shrink wrapped.
The reason this is done is so that the retailer can place the appropriate smart module within the box at the time of the order. However, this also leaves room for tampering.

  • A poor man pays twice. On my old house I bought the Schlage Smart sense and it never missed a beat. In the market for a new lock, so I’ll wait to see if firmware updates fix the August.

    • Agree, my Schlage Sense has been great ever since I returned my August smart lock.

  • Why not go Samsung smart lock? Their round one has actual good reviews, and is cheaper

    • Their round one has actual good reviews, and is cheaper

Do you have the model number or a link handy by any chance?

    • They don't have homekit support.
Plus part of the selling point is that you mount the August lock inside the house so from the outside it looks like a dumb deadbolt.

        They don't have homekit support.

Correct, they don't. Samsung doesn't care about being Apple friendly.

However, they do have built-in bluetooth support. Yet, I could not find the correct app on the App Store to see whether they would support unlock using an Apple Watch via bluetooth. If so, I would be sold. Otherwise, Yale digital deadbolt with the August module is the way to go.

        • Found the app: https://apps.apple.com/au/app/samsung-smart-doorlock/id13859…

It seems like there are a ton of issues similar to their Smart Home app. No surprises. Skip!

          • @DoctorCalculon: Lucky is been updated. Works a treat now. My August lock on the backdoor had to be taken off due to unreliability still after 6 months of updates

            • @onlinepred: People can judge for themselves that Samsung sucks at building iOS apps.
In this day and age, it isn't that hard to build a companion Watch app.
Samsung should perhaps copy what August have done with their mobile experience.

  • I own this, picked up at xmas for $280.

It's really good, the home away auto lock function is about 98% reliable.

Connecting to the lock to set inital settings is a bit unfriendly but once setup works like a charm.

Battery lasts 3 months (for our main door), just reolaced. Super simple to replace.

Not having to pull your keys out when you get home is one of lifes little pleasure moments.

    • Have you tried any rechargeables yet? Or any Alexa/app integration?

Apparently it won’t work with most rechargeables (it doesn’t like 3.7v, one type it will work with might only last 2 weeks) and the Alexa skill is US only. Just cancelled my order.

  • Victure Smart Lock looks like a much better alternative (and cheaper too $187.66 + delivery [free with prime]) because you are not tampering with the existing lock at all

  • I am really into smart home and automation, but when It comes to door locks I’m not sure how to make sure the lock fits my door.

    • Replacements are easy to do as most locks use standard sizes.
When it comes to fitting a new lock, most folks would be in the same boat as you, myself included. You will need to pay a locksmith or a handyman.

      • or just remove your existing lock(usually a few screws) and take some measurements

        • Yes, if you are replacing an old lock with a new one (after following manufacturer's measurement guidelines).
