Miele S5211 Vacuum Cleaner, $255 Plus $10 Delivery

390

I've been researching vacuums as I need a half decent replacement priced <$300 and came across the Miele S5211 for $255 at powerbuys.com.au.

RRP is $429: http://www.miele.com.au/au/domestic/products/floorcare_model…

The Good Guys are selling it at $335: http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/caringbah/Miele_S5211_Family_C…

Highly rated reviews for this model: http://www.productreview.com.au/p/miele-s-5211.html

Edit 1:

The S5211 is available from Billy Guyatts for $261 plus $6.95 shipping to Melbourne which includes replacement bags valued at around $19 (hat tip: mrpotatohead, 1st comment). The shipping at PowerBuys is a flat rate, so anyone far from the eastern states will find it cheaper there than BillyGuyatts (for example, Perth shipping: $37.72). But for most of the population (considering the included bags) BillyGuyatts is likely the better deal.

Edit 2:

Cheapest price I've found for Genuine Miele GN bags to suit the s5211 is $17.40 delivered from the UK though eBay. 4 bags with 1 x air cleaner filter and 1 x motor filter: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GEN-MIELE-VACUUM-GN-G-N-TYPE-BAGS…

5x (plus filters) aftermarket Cat and Dog bags that can be used with the s5211 are slightly cheaper: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MIELE-SYNTHETIC-GN-CAT-DOG-VACUUM…

Billy Guyatts have this model for $261 + $6.95 shipping. Which although slightly more expensive includes a set of replacements bags which usually cost about $19. So as you'll need them anyway at some stage, the Billy Guyatts deal works out to be slightly better value.

    http://www.billyguyatts.com.au/miele-barrel-vacuum-cleaner-4…

    • Well spotted, thanks.

The shipping at PowerBuys is a flat rate, so anyone far from the eastern states will find it cheaper there than BillyGuyatts (for example, Perth shipping: $37.72). But for most of the population (considering the included bags) BillyGuyatts is the better deal.

    • 6.95 is to where? The postage cost is variable

      • At Billy Guyatts, shipping is $6.95 for Melbourne 3000, $17.12 for Brisbane 4000, $37.72 for Perth 6000 and $55.66 for Darwin 0800 and Alice Springs 0872, for example.

PowerBuys shipping is $9.95 flat rate Australia wide.

For me in regional SA, the shipping cost was $21.09, so it's six to one, half a dozen the other in regards to either deal.

    • This comment might be slightly off topic but I have ordered from Billy Guyatts on Jan 3rd and still haven't got it yet! Called up this morning and told it will be dispatched today, not happy Jan!

      • Sorry to hear that mate, but if it's any consolation, the vac is bloody brilliant. It'll be worth the wait.

        Cheers.

        • Man I hate you for making me even more anxious lol!
Called BG again today and finally got dispatch email, hopefully later this week I'll receive it.

  • is this brand better than dyson ?

    • +3

Yes, those dysons are noisy Removed by mod

      • a) Since when are vacuum cleaners NOT noisy (and still top functioning)?
        b) I love my dyson and wouldnt trade it for anything else. by far best vac I've ever owned. When you have pets (and their hair absolutely everywhere), you really do appreciate the abilities of a good vacuum cleaner.

    • +3

Their suckion is great and very quiet. It is German brand and I have been using it in Europe. Reliable. Their bags can use up to 6 months or recycle it if you wanted to.

      • -3

thanks. body/construction, dyson wins (this one look cheapo) but i agree what we need is quality. what about bagless vacumm ? are they good?

      • +4

Although dysons are bagless and you save money not having to buy replacement bags, they will kill you everytime you need to empty it if you have allergies. Mieles keep everything in the bag so its way more hygienic.

    • +2

Dysons are overpriced. They're like Bose/Beats headphones. Good, but WAY overpriced :P

      • Which is why we sit on ozbargain waiting for a deal.

  • Highly recommend this vacuum. If you're not willing to spend an obscene amount of money on a Dyson, this is a good replacement IMO. It's way quieter than a Dyson and does its job well. I got it for $289 last year (which was considered good), so this is a great price.

    • Got it at around the $280-$290 price last year too and yeah it's a great vacuum.

  • I reckon this is a good vacuum and a good price as well.

  • Does it perform well on hardwood floors? i.e. movement, suction

  • For this, or any bag vacuum, buy yourself a "turbo dust interceptor" and it turns this cleaner into a 99.9% bagless vacuum. Search Godfrey's site or eBay for this "Interceptor" :o) I've been using one on 2 different vacuums for 3 years and never bought any new bags, only original bag that came with the machine.

As for the Miele 5211 itself, bought one abouth 6 months ago on special for about $280-$290. Brilliant. Great suction even with 3rd party turbo head and way quieter than the noisy POS Hoover that it replaced :o)

    • +1

Wasn't there a recall on those?

      • +3

        http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/995695

ISCH trading as International Cleaning Solutions Holding Pty Ltd are recalling the Turbo Dust Interceptor for a possible electric shock hazard.

This product was sold in Godfreys stores nationally between May 2008 and August 2010.

The defect is that the connecting pins may become dislodged resulting in the direct electrical connection being exposed. If these connection are touched while the machine is plugged in, there is a potential risk of electrical shock, burns, or in rare circumstances electrocution.

Consumers should immediately disconnect this unit from the hose of the vacuum cleaner and return it to your nearest Godfreys store for a full refund. For further information please call 1800 815 270 Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm AEDT.

For more information on this recall go to http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/995683

        • +2

Obviously there were/are different models made. The recall note you refer to above only refers to the unit for Godfrey's own Wertheim brand of cleaners. My turbo attachment (and other standard ones) is an all plastic collection canister. There's NO mains electrical connection to it, hence it's very safe and economical to use.

  • Just bought the Dyson DC29 on 2/1/2012 from Harvey Norman for $396, Swanston St Melbourne (price was advertised in store, not online)… yes more expensive than the one posted here, but just giving you a comparison - I was very happy with the Dyson… picked up almost a full load on carpets just vacuumed a month ago (either reflects poorly on the old vacuum or my hygiene).

    • +3

      just vacuumed a month ago

If you had said "a day ago" then I might have been impressed. :P

  • I got a couple of models up, but can say Mieles are very quiet and have given mine a fair bit of punishment. Easy to get replacement bags from bunnings for this one, think it's about $10 for 3 bags.

  • +3

    Thanks OP.
This model is one of the top 5 recommendations in the $299-$549 category by Choice Magazine, article dated 4th May 2011.

    http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/household/laundry…

  • I have this and I can say this is an outstanding vacuum cleaner. I used to use $100 vacuum cleaners and they are pathetic. The bagless ones need dumping every 2 cleans and didn't filter any dust. The exhaust stank and it was just rubbish.
    Buy once, buy right.

  • Miele is a very good vacuum cleaner with german reliable motor and price is good. But if you have carpet you have to change the bag often, which cost a lot. If you have timber floor the bags can last few times of vacuuming.

Good thing about dyson is you dont have to buy bag anymore, just empty the clear bin.

    • +1

On timber floors the bag can last a few times? Are you for real? How dirty is your house?

  • has anyone bought it or anything else from Billy Guyatts? are they reliable? or should I buy from powerbuys. Reviews for Billy Guyatts are not that good online. Please help I need to buy this vac but need to decide if I should buy from Billy Guyatts or power buys. Deal on Billy Guyatts is better as I am in Melbourne.

    • Powerbuys is in Melbourne too, if you're not far from them you could go instore and ask for a free set of bags to be thrown in for the same price or ring them and say you are from Melbourne and ask for the same since the shipping will be cheap for them to send the vac to you.

      Powerbuys.com:

      Shop 9 / 269 Old Geelong Rd

      Hoppers Crossing, Melbourne VIC 3029

  • Looking at the Miele product comparison site, they have products suitable for:
    Carpet
    Hard floor
Combination of carpet and hard floor
    Mixed

Can anyone define a 'mixed floor' for me and how does it differ from the 'combination of carpet and hard floor' category?

    http://www.miele.com.au/au/domestic/products/floorcare_selec…

  • Thanks but where did you get this address from? I have been to Old Geelong rd few time but never seen Powerbuys there???

    • Do you have a Good Guys near you? If you do, perhaps you can get a price match. They're usually willing to do it as long as it's an advertised price. They just include shipping as well, but saves you worrying whether the online stores are reliable.

    • I found this from the powerbuys website:

"PowerBuys is an online division of McKnights Retravision established in June 2008."

So, its infact Retravision. If you look at the street view of the address on google maps, you will see Retravision and not Powerbuys. I am not sure though if they would do the same price in store as well or if this is only an online purchase.

  • Thanks a lot guys!

  • just called them …they dont have any stock but taking orders..so there might be a wait for the order to arrive.

  • +4

I got it price matched @ appliancesonline.com.au (They appear more reliable then BG)

"Thank you for taking the time to report a lower price on our website. We are happy to match the price of $276 including delivery and removal of your old, disconnected appliance along with all of the packaging. This item is currently in stock in our New South Wales warehouse. If you place an order before 2pm Thursday we can deliver it to you on Friday"

    • Well done. I'm getting one for sure now.

  • +1

just ordered it from appliancesonline for $265 including delivery in Mel. Thanks OP and Shue!!

    • I just called appliancesonline.com.au (1300 000 500) and was told in no uncertain terms that they are NOT price matching.

Quote: "The information on the ozbargain website is old and incorrect".

So good luck for those who can get it at the cheaper price from appliancesonline.

      • I ordered from Powerbuys for $264.95 inc delivery no worries. However got an email update stating it would take longer than they originally stated. This is confirmed by Dave1 when he rang and they replied that they don't have any stock, but are taking orders.

Anyway, I've had my crappy vacuum long enough, I'm sure I can live with it (or rather, not bother vacuuming) for a couple more weeks or so until delivery.

        • Hmm, I once ordered some stuff from Powerbuys, the strung me along for months before I finally got out of them that they had no idea when it would arrive. To their credit they promptly cancelled the order & refunded me, but they could've done the right thing in the first place & not advertised stuff they didn't have. Oh, and I'm still getting their SPAM!!! :s

I hope your order fares better, but just keep a close eye on it!

      • +4

        Hi ggop,

Apologies for the incorrect information given over the phone by our team. I've confirmed that we are definitely price matching this if asked.

I'd like to find out who you were talking to on the phone so we can ensure it doesn't happen again. If you can email me any additional details (a name would be awesome) to [email protected] I'll look into it further internally.

        Cheers,
        David Olsen

        • Wow, nice service David. A+ to Appliances On Line.

        • I've tried 'asking' using your 'price guarantee' form but it isn't working. Form states 'postcode required' even though the postcode is filled in. Tried numerous times.

        • +1

7Alice7: The postcode field is a bit funny. I had to fill in the same postcode a few times for it to work. Tab in and out a few times, it's finicky. I was using Firefox on a Mac.

AppliancesOnline.com.au: This is another item that needs fixing. My friend is also trying to use the same form to get a price match on the electrolux washing machine, the form won't submit.

    • No probs, happy to share =)

  • +2

    @ggoo - go to http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/miele-vacuum-cleaner-s521…
and click on best price guaranteed link on right hand side. It will open a pop-pop with team and conditions. now there is a link at the bottom of that page which would take you to the price match page.

Simply fill in that form and mention powerbuys in where field and send.

They will send you an email with approved price match and quote number. call there 1300 number and give them the quote number and they will process the order for you. THat guy processed my order in 2 mins after giving the quote number he didnt ask any question. You can even pay them on delivery which is great!!

let me know if you have any prob.

Powerbuys doesnt have stock but appliancesonline DOES as I HAVE ALREADY received an email saying they have processed my order which will arrive on FRIDAY 06-01-12

    GOOD LUCK!

    • appliancesonline.com.au will also throw in the extra vacuum bags at no extra cost if matched with Billy Guyatts.

    • @Dave1: Thanks for that, I didn't realize that "guarantee" is a button. I thought it was just a image. I've put in the details, I'll let you know how it goes.

      • +1

        ggop,

I'll pass this comment onto our design team and see if we can make that clearer on our site.

        • @appliancesonline: Thanks for monitoring this and taking the feedback.

@Dave1: I've been given a quote for the price match. Thanks again for telling me how to do it

  • woo just received the vaccum. Great customer service and speedy delivery, haven't had the same buying experience for a while.

  • Same here…..got it this morning as well…great customer service.

just used it and I must say ..its the best vac I have ever used…

  • Just received my Vac from Powerbuys, very quick for back-ordered stock and they emailed me with updates re order. What a vacuum! Have to agree with Dave1, best vacuum I've ever used.

  • +2

not sure if anyone will read my post but few mins ago i bought this VC for $255 from harvey norman gordon nsw, after i showed them powerbuys website. and they didnt add the delivery cost too! happy. let me know if you need receipt posted

    • Good deal. It's a great Vac.

  • Billy Guyatt did not have extra bags when I enquired. Looking to buy it from Powerbuys or Appliances Online.

    • Harvey Norman and GoodGuys did not price match here. So I bought it from AppliancesOnline. Pricematching and ordering have been painless - one email and one phone call.
Waiting for it to be delivered next week.

  • Called HN to price match and they gave me the usual crap about below cost blah blah. Called Good Guys @ Lutwyche QLD and they matched when I said I had seen it for $270… Didn't even ask me where!

  • Price has gone up by 4 bucks.
    Maybe due to ozbargain demand!
