It appears that these vouchers are now being released by local government areas.

Dine & Discover NSW is being rolled out through March 2021. Throughout each week, vouchers will become available in more and more Local Government Areas (LGAs).

Use the Dine & Discover NSW Voucher address check to see if you can apply for the vouchers.

Every NSW resident aged 18 and over will be eligible for four $25 vouchers worth $100 in total. The vouchers can be used at participating NSW businesses who are registered as COVID safe.

The Dine & Discover NSW vouchers will be divided into two categories:

  • two $25 vouchers to be used for eating in at restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs and clubs from Monday to Thursday, excluding public holidays.
  • two $25 vouchers to be used for entertainment and recreation, including cultural institutions, live music, and arts venues, available 7 days a week, excluding public holidays.

    • It's a slow way of doing it :p

  • Anyone know a workaround if you're renting in NSW but originally from another state?

    • You need to update your details for passport or medicare card.

I guess whatever ID you want to use…

I no longer live in my area but I have to wait until:
      Woollahra Municipal 2021-03-25

I can't be buggered stuffing around with it, but I'm sure it's possible. Otherwise go to Service NSW and state you changed your address on your drivers license. I'm not sure what the process is, but you may need to also sit another drivers test. lol.

      • Can you just goto Service NSW and just show them your rental or utility bill? Or something with an address on it? :D

        • I would give it a try. I have a Photo ID which won't work on the app and went to my local Service NSW office. They gave me 2 sheets of vouchers, printed 2 to a page.

    • What details do they use to check if you're from nsw?

      • Interstate driver's license - got an error saying not eligible b/c of this

        • +1

2 proof of identity documents such as an Australian driver licence, Medicare card, Australian passport.

So interstate is allowed, but error-ed? :p

Edit: If you do not have a MyServiceNSW Account or you're unable to apply online, you can call 13 77 88 or visit a Service NSW Centre with your proof of identity documents.

          • @NGPriest: Correct - driver's licence was verified, but at the final step it said I wasn't eligible

            • @cawfee: Time to visit Service NSW for your $100? :p

Do you know what other ways/documents you can "verify" your NSW-ness? :p

  • Well that lasted about 24hrs, website already kicked the bucket…

    "Temporarily unavailable
This transaction is unavailable due to a technical issue. Technicians are currently working on it and hope to have the service online as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

  • Got mine yesterday (Albury).

  • Aha

  • Thanks

  • Address not ready. 2020

  • Can you use the voucher Only at your local government area?

Can you register using another address that is already activated? And then use the vouchers at any registered/qualifying businesses?

If the vouchers are not location restricted, then what is the purpose of staged rollout?

    • I believe you can use them anywhere they're accepted.

The staged Rollout is likely to prevent the system from crashing, which is what happened the other day :p

  • Nowhere to use the Discover vouchers around here.

  • Used the dining vouchers today. No issues.

  • my area shows todays date from the initial scrape, but isnt available yet.

    • Which LGA are you in? :S

    • It appears that you have to wait until midnight the day after the date in the JSON/Source

      • Assuming we're using DST, maybe 10am the next day? :S

  • Has anyone found a data-mined list of participating businesses similar to this release by suburb list?

The website's search function is terrible.

    • +1

Yes, I was looking for testers…

      • Happy to help, not sure how it would work as a tester. Search is currently listed by suburb/post code and spit between dine and discover. It would be good to have a map based interface where you could look (AMEX shop small style), but a full list that you could Ctrl-F through for relevant suburbs would be still be an improvement.

    • +1

I am aware of a basic map, but it's really of limited usefulness as many of the listings scraped from the search have the owner's company name instead of the venue name…

Eg. THE TRUSTEE FOR BLAH FAMILY TRUST

And some of them are one level worse as they're literally just ABN's.

      • +1

That would be gloria jeans, I believe?

      • +1

        I am horrible with maps… :s

Thats why I asked on page 2 for help testing :p

        Edit: Things to do…
        1. Get user's location
        2. Get postcode from user's location?
        3. Run query again to get list of places
        4. Plot places on map

        ETA? Likely after June :p

        • Especially if NGPriest keeps getting lazy. Thank you! The search so far is great, works for all the NSW postcodes I've checked so far, including postcodes in Newcastle, midnorth coast, northern suburbs of sydney, innerwest….

Everything but silverwater :( Which doesn't seem to have anything in 2128.

P.S. I read the web address and NSW Dungeons and Dragons and got all excited :(

          • @futureminime: Thanks

I'm on mobile or else I would've typed NSWDnD :p

I did find a bug with suburbs with spaces in them, refer to page 2's discussion.

I'm looking at adding a map, but like Ajax, I'm horrible with JavaScript…

          • +1

            @futureminime: I got a bit less lazy…

I've added the text box to change postcode without needing to change the URL…

            • @NGPriest: and the maps! looking good :)

              Thanks for all your work

              • @futureminime: Yeah, added the maps a few comments down…

Please don't kill my billing account :p

    • The website's search function is terrible.

      massive understatement

The fact you cant even search via post code, but only suburb within a post code seems incredibly lazy by a web dev (but i guess it is Service NSW)

  • +11

I've made a map with all available locations as of 18/03/2021

    https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1bhv3mudnQgw0ij3Y…

    • Nice, how long did it take to make?

I've got something in mind, but I feel bad about hammering the server on a 2000 requests per user basis :p

      • +2

        Hey,

I've published the entire raw unedited dataset on Github: https://github.com/LukePrior/Dine-Discover-NSW-Business-List

I first got all the postcode and suburb pairings and saved them to a local file (dict.txt on Github), I could then run through all the suburbs with a simple Python script (api.py) and save them to some csv files (dine.csv & discover.csv). The code is very poor but if people are interested I will clean it up and add a proper readme. To create the custom Google map I needed to process the data as there were numerous cases of locations not having any GPS coordinates or incorrect ones. Once the data was partly sorted I split it up into groups of ~2000 so that Google would let me import them (hence dine1,2,3,4). I plan to update the raw list every few days but the map supports a maximum of 10,000 points (currently at 5,648) so I should be good for a while until that limit is hit.

        • +2

          I've done mine by postcodes.
Pulled the suburbs from the postcode.
Then pulled the D&D for each suburb.

Only benefits for mine is that it's up to date, but slow and manual (per postcode) :S

Next on my list is to add it to a map.

Edit: Oh, mine is written in PHP :p

    • Good on you guys for taking the trouble to do this.

      • Changelog: Added textbox to change postcode :D

Edit: Google Maps doesn't want to play nice/free…
        https://cloud.google.com/maps-platform/pricing/

        • Changelog: Added a map… (Please don't kill my billing account…)

          • @NGPriest: Another day… Another mess of code…

            Changelog: Added search by name
            Hid anything with no results…

Things to do: Optimise code… :'(

            • @NGPriest: Great weekend to… Code…?

Should i do something similar to Uskompuf and plot everything on a map?

I should be able to schedule everything and keep the map up to date? (with a ~24h cache)

But it'll have the same issue with some businesses that don't provide a lat/lon on their listings…

    • Good stuff - very helpful

  • +1

The original list isn’t even complete. I’ve reserved at Republic because of the doubling the voucher value promotion but notice it’s not on the ServiceNSW list… I wonder how many others?

    • Do you have the list of venues doubling the offer value?

    • a lot of the double venues in the city are bars, but the voucher doesnt cover alcohol - so how does this work? If you get food and snacks on the side it'll cover it, and you pay for the alcohol part separately?

  • +4

Anyone else notice that the Dine vouchers can be redeemed 7 days a week now, and only exclude public holidays?

    https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/dine-discover-nsw-information…

  • Anyone else having trouble actually redeeming these bloody things? Both my housemate and I get the endlessly spinning 'One moment please' after it confirms our Wollongong address is eligible.

    • yeah I got the same issue when trying to register for the first time today. I'll try tomorrow I suppose.

    • I had the same problem, just click/tap refresh

      • There's no refresh button on the app, just endlessly 'One moment please'. I've tried a dozen times…

        • Updated to latest app with dark mode colour team and apply voucher working now

    • +1

Try using the website (https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-dine-discov…) instead of the app.

      • Thanks mate, that worked.

      • Thanks
        Hate installing the app.

  • I think got approved for 1 voucher not sure where you get the rest

    Mon-Thu Sigh….

  • Hi guys i have a valid license everything is good for RMS, However every time when i verify online stuff like Service NSW dinning voucher, Boost Mobile phone, they fail

All details are correct but can't verify. I got my license late 90s, would that be because its missing on verifying systems?

What can I do to fix it?

    • Note down the error, contact RMS And have them take a look at the back end to make sure that all your details, including the dob is right.

    • You're not receiving the PIN by TXT message?

  • +1

    As of today :
"You can use your Dine NSW vouchers to spend at dining businesses any day of the week (excluding public holidays) and Discover NSW vouchers to spend on activities with arts and tourism businesses any day of the week (excluding public holidays)."

Go forth and have fun! Plan to use them prior to the Easter public holidays. Or soon after.

  • it says

"Note: To apply, you'll need a MyServiceNSW Account and 2 proof of identity documents such as your NSW driver licence, Medicare card, Australian passport".

Do we provide the identity documents when applying for the vouchers? because i just created an MyServiceNSW account but couldnt see where to add proof of identity documents?

also just wondering, when we provide proof of identity is it for example a screen shot of drivers license? or can you just quote the drivers license number and stuff?

    • You provide them when applying for the vouchers. You should also be able to quote your driver licence number as well

      • cheers!

        • You definitely quote the driver licence number (and same with Medicare); successfully applied for my vouchers this morning

    • @Triton DId you manage to get yours in the end?

  • +2

Was anyone able to enter their nsw photo card?

    • Nop.

    • Nope. My partner can't claim voucher because she only has one document to prove she lives in NSW…her travel visa foreign passport. If only they would allow Photo ID card then she could register a 2nd document and claim them :(

      • +1

Apparently you have to go in person to Service NSW to claim your vouchers if using a Photo Card?

        • Hmm thank you. There's nothing on the website indicating they would accept NSW Photo ID card but we will give it a go at her local branch.

          • +1

@scottnolife: They should accept it though; it’s issued by the same people who issue the vouchers …

            • @kerfuffle: So we went in to Service NSW on Monday with a foreign passport and Photo ID card and the staff member assisting us said it would be no problem to input the details manually, but unfortunately their computer system was down and we were asked to come back tomorrow. All good so far. We returned today and a different member of staff flat out refused to help us. She said the vouchers were for Australian citizens only and she could not accept the Photo ID card at all, and that we needed TWO of the ten documents listed on the website. OMG so frustrating.

          • +1

@scottnolife: I applied on Saturday with a Photo ID. Sadly, their system sucks and some Photo ID customers have to return the next biz day to pick them up. I had to go back on Monday and they were waiting for me in an envelope. I didn't have to queue a second time, thank goodness, just told the guy at the door I was picking up vouchers and gave the name of the RMS person who organized it..

            • @eyeballz2770: Cheers. Unfortunately for us the computer system was down when we went in on Monday, but the staff assisting us said it would be no problem at all to input the Photo ID card + passport manually, but we should come back the next day when the system was operating again. Today we went back and a different member of staff flat out refused to accept the Photo ID card and said we needed 2 of the 10 documents listed on the website :(

      • Visa should work, you enter in the foreign passport number that the visa is registered on. You may need to look for the option to select a different/other identifying document

  • i cant remember where i read that someone posted a website where you could use the discover vouchers to pay for a visit to the aquarium and stuff

    does anyone know the website?

    cheers

    • +1

I think it was from Klook

      • thats the one

        cheers mate!

    • Also taronga zoo and symbio wildlife zoo are taking them ( no third party).

  • Got mine! This rocks

  • So I am an international student which I only have Visa, that means I am ineligible to apply ? :(

    • +1

You could probably try apply for your vouchers at a Service NSW branch with your student card and non-Australian passport

      • Thank you. Will see if that works!

  • +3

For the culturati, Opera Australia has doubled the value of your Discover voucher for the Handa Opera on the Harbour, currently La Traviata. There are D reserve tickets for $99/$89 concession and you get $50 off with the voucher. I’m going!

  • +1

Looks like the two LGA's slated for April 1 were moved forward a day to the 31st of March.

Must have noticed that you can't say "It'll be rolled out by the end of March" if you place areas in April. :)

  • Not that it matters much, but the vouchers should have a fixed validity period rather than a fixed date.
