Lol again, how many giftcards i have now ;)

  • +19

Best Telstra and JB deal is finally back.

    • +1

Not the best IMO, last time the same deal I did it was $99 for a S10e, sold for $750 cash.

      • Not the best IMO, couple weeks ago the deal I did was $99 for a S20, sold for $950 cash.

        • -1

Minimum cost is $1188, not much profit involved. not worth it.

          • +6

@[Deactivated]: im paying like $19/month for 150gb and get 5G for free after selling the phone. How is that not worth it?

  • +4

Wow. Literally joined two weeks ago when it was $400 GC. Amazing deal here.

    • +26

      hand over your ozb license

  • -3

The highest bonus so far….someone posted yesterday as if they found gold with bonus $400 GC…..lol

    • +8

It has been $500 at least 4 times now

      • +9

Actually, probably way more, because I'm now on my 3rd "$500 JB/Telstral deal"

        • how do you keep doing this haha?

        • Me too :) last year they said - you were here on exactly the same day last year doing this deal

        • +1

          I'm on my 2nd

          Long may they continue

          • @R4: Me too. My house is full of tech paid by Telstra.

    • Can I port into this from BOOST?
    • Does this Telstra plan come with any extras (Kayo, Binge, AFL Live TV)?
    • +2

Excludes current Telstra, Belong and Boost customers.

      • +1

Though if you're with telstra you can sign up after activating a sim card with another provider and porting that, then along for your current telstra number to be added to the new service

        • Does there have to be a time frame from when you port out of Telstra and attempt to go back, by signing up to this deal?

        • +1

Wait so my current Telstra number is out of contract I could sign a Optus prepaid up, port it to Telstra then keep my uncontracted Telstra number? Am I understanding this haha

          • @MBix: Not sure about uncontracted - I never did it myself but read a lot of comments about it. If you find the past deals you should find some conversation about it, and maybe ask someone who did it

          • @MBix: I've done this twice before. Ported out to a $2 (or maybe it was $10) Amaysim prepaid plan, then been at JB a couple of hours later and ported back to Telstra. Last time was about 2 years ago though

            • +2

@stevem42: In most of the comments from the prior deals, porting back in within 30 days of porting out only works if the JB HiFi employee processes the port, because they don't care. If you got to a JB HiFi store where they call up the contact centre to port back to Telstra, they will refuse the offer.

            • +1

@stevem42: Yeh I’ve done this once back in the day and been rejected once in more recent times, apparently they do check now as JB Staff are copping it if they do it and give away a gift card to those ineligible

I think what is mentioned above is a bit of a different process eg: bringing a number across from Optus then having your Telstra number applied to it instead of ever porting the number out.

            • +2

@stevem42: They're pretty strict about it now, treat you like you are a terrorist if you have been with boost 23 days ago. You can set up a new number though and then port your number to telstra and combine the accounts in store. Takes a bit of mucking around but it's possible.

              • @Helenn: So do I need to port to e.g. Optus first? Can you explain little bit more clear how to muck around? I want to get my wife this deal and she is with Boost at the moment

          • @MBix: Yes you can - I was out of contract with Telstra, signed up for a new number with JB/Telstra then once activated cancelled the new number and transferred my out of contract number onto the new plan.

            • @Nobby47: Brilliant! Thanks mate

            • @Nobby47: Just be aware that this isn't standard practice. You need to be lucky enough to get a support person who's prepared to do this for you. It's not something that you're just entitled to. If it was, there would be no point in restricting these deals to new customers and port-ins only.

So do this with caution. While some people have successfully done, I highly doubt it will happen for everyone.

              • @wombat81: I couldn't do it at all online/over the phone, but had no trouble in store. Lots of people have two numbers say for business/personal accounts so they let you join accounts together. I think from memory that I ported my existing number (from boost) to a Telstra $2 Sim so both were under Telstra already to make it easier.

        • Do they check against the list of existing customers?
Asking because I am currently on Telstra and Boost.
Would I be able to bring my number from Lycamobile and be eligible for this promo?

          • @hubs1982: Yes, they do. The last time I did this in store, they called Telstra and did all the credit check (had to wait around in the store until I got an approval) and then got my store credit

            • @lunartemis: How long was the whole process for you? I.e. from applying to getting out of the store

              • @profeeder55: About 30mins? I approached one of the staff members and he called Telstra. I had to speak to them directly over the phone to confirm my ID including getting my number ported)

      • Bugger! I have one line with Telstra prepaid that I could consider bringing over to postpaid but looks like it won't be counted.

  • Shame theres a black spot at my house in the bundaberg beach suburbs that make gives me 2.0mbps on mobile data (adequate speeds according to telstra).

    • Optus is much better in that area, we have the same problem with Telstra in Bargara

      • Yeah but then Optus doesn't work properly in some places in town, like Shalom.
        Headache

  • +2

Let's get the porting party started.

    • As long you keep 1.5m distance and mask…

  • Do they still charge for extra data or have they got "piece of mind data" now?

    • +1

They're had 'piece of mind data' for a while now - everyone is shaped to 1.5mbps after exceeding your data allowance

      • +1

        "peace of mind"

        • Beach of mind

      • +2

I give them a piece of my mind if they don't give me peace of mind data

    • When I joined this plan in about October/Nov? last year it was no excess data charges. After using the 80mb for the month, speed is reduced to 1.5Mbps till start of next cycle. Just check with the store when you sign up if this is still the case 👍

    • Think it's slows down after 80gb, but shame no international mins not included.

      • Add the $10 pack for those selected countries

        • Not allowed on these plans.

          • @ClumpyGinger: Are you sure? Last year we have added the 10$ pack.

            • @Ozfanmel: Yes, I was able to add calling pack last year. But on these plans, its not possible to add calling pack. I tried, if want to add the calling pack, only option is to move to ‘Telstra’ plan, which will trigger termination fees.

              • @ClumpyGinger: Okay okay good to know that. Have you tried yourself in app or from Telstra store.

                • @Ozfanmel: I tried in app. There is an option to add calling pack in app, but when we click on that, it opens chat window. Then they will advise (after few hours or may be couple of days) that it’s not possible. 😇

                  • @ClumpyGinger: I think same happened to my friend earlier but Telstra store able to do them. It’s worth to try it.

I think we can’t add via app .agree

                    • @Ozfanmel: @rkven, @ClumpyGinger, I’ve just gone through this. I signed up to the $59 JBHIFI plan with the $400 GC last week (yes missing out on the $500 GC!) but before I signed up, both Telstra chat and the JBHIFI staff incorrectly told me that I COULD add the international call pack.

When I tried to add the pack, the Telstra support informed me their system does not allow them to add the international call pack to JB or GoodGuys plans.

When I raised that I was told via Telstra chat that I could add it, the support team escalated to their supervisor, cancelled the JB plan without any termination fees and moved me to a standard “medium” Telstra plan so they could enable the call pack.

It may be worth asking via suppprt before signing up. If they say that you can add the pack then it seems that they will move you to an eligible plan without penalty.

YMMV and this is obviously a lucky workaround for me. It also requires a fair amount of perseverance via Telstra chat to get this sorted

                      • @TrickyDicky: Thank you. How you checked with Telstra even before you signed up to that plan. like you mentioned about JBHifi plan or in general?

                        • @Ozfanmel: I was specific and asked about the jbhifi/ goodguys plan - so that there was a record in the Telstra chat in the MyTelstra app.

I was surprised when they couldn’t add it given both JB and Telstra said I could do it. So it was a genuine misrepresentation when I signed up.

I asked before as I’d read in OzB and other forums it couldn’t be done

                          • +1

@TrickyDicky: Okay sure . Thanks hope your info helps whoever after international call along with this.

    • No excess data charges, but your speed will be capped at 1.5Mbps if you exceed your monthly quota.

  • +6

What's the early termination charges ?

    • Half of your remaining bills

      • Couldn't find any link to T&Cs mentioning this for deal, that's why bit concerned as it could be a bait ;)

        • Early Termination Charge (ETC): if you cancel your plan early, equal to 50% of your monthly fee for the months (or part months) remaining in your plan term. The maximum ETC for your plan is set out in the above table. In addition to this, you'll also need to reimburse Telstra for any vouchers you received for entering into your plan if you cancel your plan early. This Voucher Reimbursement Cancellation Fee will be pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher divided by 12 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your plan term.

          • @ClumpyGinger: thanks! if I signed up the plan and terminated on the same day. I must pay $500 gift card reimbursement and half of $59*12, is that correct?

            • -1

@pikachupw: You get to keep the GC

            • +2

@pikachupw: I believe monthly fees is $69 on these plans. There is $10 discount on monthly fees which makes it $59/month.

            • @pikachupw: So for just joining and then cancelling, you make 500-(59*12/2)=146?

              • +2

@expatOz: Assuming you value your own time used doing all that at $0

              • @expatOz: Nope.
                Monthly Fees: $69
                $69x12months=$828/2=$414
You got the $500 gift voucher which you need to reimburse.
                So $414(Termination fee)+$500(Voucher Reimbursement) = $914 - $500(Gift voucher you get to keep) = $414 (out of pocket).

  • For current Telstra customers, can you port to VF and port back to Telstra for this deal? I was able to do this 15months ago but not sure if things have changed

    • Depends on the staff and store. They are not supposed to.

  • How do I port over to Telstra? My current number is connected to my mother's account(It was under a Company), and I want to take over my account.

Can I do this myself, or I need her to let Vodafone know to release it?

    • They'll probably just need you to confirm it's your number by responding to a text message

      • Awesome.

    • I used to work for a telco. You’ll need to complete a Transfer of Title into your name if you’re planning to set up the new account in your name. Otherwise, you’ll face porting issues which will delay your gift card.

      • Do they give me this paperwork? Do I fill it, or I need my mother aswell? I'll ask tomorrow I guess.

        • +1

You complete the Transfer of Title with your existing telco (this can be done over the phone and your mum does have to be with you) and then when it’s in your name, you can port it over to Telstra.

I was in your exact position with my mum under Optus and doing a transfer into my own name took a few days :(

Worth a shot asking tomorrow anyway!

          • @1111L: An extra tip: have your mother change your service from post paid to pre paid (if relevant) - then xfer to your name - easier process then, one less credit check at least. If she/your number is under contract you were going to have to deal with that either way though

    • If it's Vodafone prepaid you'll need to change it to your name as they use your DOB for the port, if it's post paid you'll just need the account number.
I worked in Vodafone years ago and I know they didn't check against names ( but then again they may have realised this hole in the system and closed it)

    No international calls?

    • +1

      Nope

      • +1

the only downside. I gather you can still make international calls and texts, but you pay alot for each one?

        • Yes I checked the country I want to call $2.66/min. Expensive

    • just call using skype / whatsapp etc?

  • No discount on phone.

i just want the deal that had the Galaxy ultra for $599 to come back
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/603748?page=3#comment

    • Same here.

    • what are the chances a deal like this one will come back?

  • +2

Is this the first time they emailed the deal directly, I reckon? They usually hide the ads and in store only.

  • +2

Does anyone know whether you can sign up for this plan as a new number with Telstra and then later port your old Telstra number over to this plan via live chat or something?

    • Yes but be prepared for problems. Like it taking 48hrs or them fudging the whole process. Maybe it helps if the original number was allocated by telstra.

      • Thanks heaps I will try my luck!

  • -1

Can i use the GC for something else later?

    • +1

of course you can, they give a standard JB HiFi $500 GC (meaning you can only use it with JB), but it has no expiry date.

  • Nice, was waiting for this deal to come back. Nearly sign up $79 with $600 off the phone.
