[eBay Plus] Asus Zenwifi XT8 AX6600 Mesh Router 2 Pack $698.00 Delivered @ Wireless 1 eBay

150
PLUSSS1

Asus Zenwifi XT8 AX6600 Mesh Router 2 Pack - on sale for $748 from some retailers but comes down to $698 with PLUSSS1 code for EBay Plus members. Other retailers still have it for $899 - Wireless1's quote of 'previously $1099' is ridiculous..

After being underwhelmed with the performance of my TPLink AX50 router and, in particular, the signal strength of same, I have decided to try these as they are highly rated by most tech web sites. By all accounts, my previous AC68U should also be able to join the mesh with the latest firmware added.

The only issue is it does not state stock numbers - just referred to as 'Limited'.

  • When I was looking to upgrade my home wifi setup, I was tempted by getting these. But at this price, I question whether it may be better value to get a Ubiquiti UDM and another AP.

Admittedly the Zenwifi is more plug and play however.

I'm in the same boat. Was sold about getting the amplifi alien but won't as it's only a dual band here in Australia.

So was looking at the Asus XT8 or the UDM + AP combo. Let me know which one you end up with. One thing preventing me from jumping at the Asus is the UI. Looks like it's designed by movie company showing a hacking scene.

      • I got a UDM, UAP-Pro-V2 and an AC Outdoor.

They connect via wireless uplink but I have the option of wiring them up later. Have had bulletproof wifi since.

        2 story house, 220sqm throughout.

Admittedly my gear is Wifi 5 and the Zenwifi is Wifi6. But not a whole heap of devices support Wifi 6 as of yet.

        • Thanks for replying. So the UDM connects via POE to the UAP-Pro-V2 , then wireless to the AC outdoor ?

@starburstyellow: UDM doesnt have POE. Its more of an all in one system (Router, Wifi, Controller). The UAP Pro I just have plugged into a powerpoint via a POE injector and it connects wirelessly to the UDM. Same goes for the AC Outdoor.

The UDM has very powerful Wifi and depending on your living setup, may only need the UDM.

Be careful with Ubiquiti gear as you will want to keep adding to it and tweaking the network. Its addictive. The metrics I can measure on my network is insane.

@nedski: Ah gotcha. Yes understand the UDM doesn't have POE. Was wondering how you set up your UAP-Pro. Think you have given me some ideas. Thanks.

  • is this better than getting AX88U ?

    • Well, one's a router, one's a mesh setup at a much higher cost…

I brought one of these back in January, they are great, I original had an orbi RBK50. The UI is much better than the orbi and mobile app is so much better.
One thing to note though, say once a week at times I have to reboot my IOS devices because for some reason It won't connect. I also have the routers set to reboot every morning at about 3am just for good measure. From what I can remember these units did originally have issues to begin with but with firmware updates they seem to operate much more reliably.

I payed $715.00 from Computer Alliance with eBay plus this is an even better deal than that.

Not a bad buy at all IMO

  • I bought this MESH router about 8 months ago for $800 and I am happy to say the performance so far is flawless. Fast and stable connection with excellent speed ALL THE TIME. I currently have around 40+ devices connecting to it.

  • Purchased and promptly returned. Non stop drops between them, YMMV. Couldn't get Wifi 6 on latest Samsung devices, actually got faster performance on Wifi 5.

As above, ASUS does regularly update devices, but that reboot issue was an issue back then too….

    Looks like issues persist though.

If you can have a wired backhaul go for the asus rt-ax92u as it has similar features and cheaper price with two unit mesh system. I just got mine a week ago and it's working well. Love the Asus app.

  • I have these since last Nov…and never have any issues with it….unless my daughter switch it off by mistake !

  • Purchased in Dec and nothing but issues.
Kept switching to 2.4Ghz for the backhaul even though the signal was terrible. Will drop connection and then struggle to connect. Added my old AC68U to the mesh and this is more stable that the supplied node. Nearby devices will prefer to attach to the AC68U even though they are closer to the XT8.

    Not worth the money

  • These things are amazing, I got these at a previous deal around ~650 last years Black Friday and bing lee along with a few other items for the business.
It has changed the way we internet!

  • Price is back to $849, making it $799 after the $50 off code.
