Cheap EKO TVs at Big W. Doesn't appear to have any instore stock so delivery only as far as I can tell. Frameless QLED seems to be the best deal out of the lot. Shame there's no 65" version. I was thinking it would be a good interim TV as while I like OLED, I'm not sure it's the way to go for longevity so until MicroLED actually makes its way into consumer devices, this could be a good thing to use in the meantime.

These seem to run Android 9 which is a few versions out of date but at this price, it would be easy to pair with a Shield or Chromecast etc.

  • Good price on the 55

    • Yes since I bought an EKO 55" less than a week earlier for $500

  • +5

That's an amazing price on the 55"!

We got one of these back in Dec to put out on the deck and it's surprisingly good. Sound is terrible, but the display and interface are totally fine. If you don't care about the sound or have a sound bar then I can highly recommend

    • Exactly what I plan it to be a deck tv. May source a cheap soundbar or upgrade living room soundbar to use existing one with this

    • Do you need special cover for it since it is outdoor?

      • It's fully covered and out of the weather, so I'm not using any cover

    • Whats the delivery time ?

      • Was under a week from memory

        • Thats what I had from SYD->MEL last week

  • I have purchased the 55", let's see how it goes.

  • Still worth it with $63 delivery to Brisbane?

  • rip $49 delivery

  • Bought in October, returned in December. Could be a problem with my unit but the picture quality wasn't good, no HDR, laggy system and as everyone pointed, crappy sound system. Bought a FFALCON after that, much better.

    • What were your gripes with the picture quality? I've read that people recommend turning off all enhancements (which I would do anyway) and that really improves the look of the TV.

      • The dark scenes displayed whitish shades, not quite dark. The colours weren't bright like my other TV.

        • Wtf whitish shades in dark scenes?
So like the opposite to the colour that it should be?

          • @ChadHominem: I believe it's called "Clouding"

            • @anamul: Oh yeah from the backlight. I thought you meant the colours are so inaccurate that dark looks whitish lol

            • -2

@anamul: The TV is edge lit, you don't get clouding. Anamul probably just wants to brag about their FFalcon TV. The EKO is better in all regards tho.

              • @Mickice: My housemate recorded videos of issues before returning it in case the store guy wants proof. I’ve mentioned ffalcon only once mate. Nobody buys stuff only to return and it’s no fun returning a bigass tv, I was sharing my experience if it helps anyone.

    • +7

At this price point no HDR is probably a good thing.

      • I believe I bought it for around $650 back then, it says it has HDR in the description.

        • +6

Not all HDR is created equal. Cheap panels have awfully poor implementation of it just to say it on the box for marketing. You get what you pay for really.

      • The HDR is legit, too bright even. Lightning in movies turns a dark room lit.

    • Interesting you state no HDR when they advertise with HDR, were you using the inbuilt android tv to play media off?

      • Yep

  • +2

So tempted to buy this. For $400 delivered I dont care about its quality compared to better brands but Im afraid it wont turn on or breaks down in two weeks.

    • If it does, since it's from a shop I would imagine you could return it if necessary.

    • My EKO I bought last week is pretty decent quality

  • +1

Purchased the 65 a few weeks ago. Great TV.

    • +1

How good is the audio quality?

      • +1

I've had the 65 for several months now, pretty happy with it. It's in our bedroom so we don't need it too loud but the sound is a bit muffled at times, I think I just need to play around with settings a bit.

      • +1

Terrible. Most TV's are. Always best to run a soundbar

        • I have only found one cheap TV with acceptable sound quality and that is FFalcon 55" from JB Hifi.

  • I've had a 55 for about 6 months, I'm happy with it, I'm not too fussy though…

  • +1

bought the 55, can anyone comment if its a good tv to watch 2k or 4k video on youtube?

  • +2

bit the bullet on the 55 to bide my time for a year or two while tv prices hopefully come back to normality

  • +3

5% cash back on shop back , also if you have every day rewards card, there is currently an offer 5 x points shop at big w, activate it on your app and link it to your big w account and you will earn around 1750 points

  • +1

The previous deal is here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/581676. FLICKIT's comment could be a reference to the quality of the build

    • +3

A couple of those issues were no issue, they were user error and learning curve…

      The only real issues I have are;
.The "No Signal auto power off" doesn't work, if you set it to 10mins it just tries to turn off every 10 mins when on TV or with a HDMI input.
.You have to press a button on the remote every 4 hours or it turns off.

I think the youtube ad might have been because I was missing the power button when turning it on and actually hitting the youtube button… The black flashes were due to dodgy HDMI cables…. With the slow changing through the inputs on the remote, I just removed the unused inputs so I only have the HDMI & TV, it switches between the two nice and snappy now…

      • +1

        Thanks for the update!

        • I should add, I only use it for free to air TV and HDMI from the PC, I dont use any of the smart/Android features, I've tinkered with things but I wouldn't know good from bad…

          • @FLICKIT: For tv box users it shouldn't matter too much as long as the panel is good

            • +1

@xyzzyxyzzy: I've used all the apps, they are perfect no external box needed.

  • Got the 55 using 5% off gift cards to save another $20

  • Has anybody ever done flight sim gaming on these ?
I realise for most FPS games there are better screen options… But how about flight sims ?

I have an old 1080p ( cheap ) tv for flight sims and it does great, but i havent run it on MSFS2020 yet..

    • You're gonna need a monster PC to get over 30fps at 4K in MSFS2020.

    • Do you have 4x the GPU power to suddenly drive 4x the pixels?

      • It would be ok, but ideally you'd want one with Freesync to stop tearing

      • Currently running a 32GB RAM OC [email protected] with dual Titan12GB and 1070Ti but likely to upgrade to i9 & RTX30 series…. but i wont buy until they drop… if they drop…

  • +1

EKO 65" Owner here after 2 months of using, its super slow now. No idea why is that, cuz I dun use it frequently.

And I dun know if any others have same problem It won shut down after I turn off my PS4 even if I select "shut down after 10mins", this drove me crazy, cuz I often forgot to turn it off and it consumes around 170w whole night in black screen.

    BTW panel is great.

  • Damn you OzBargain you win again. Bought for the panel only, will use with Chromecast and sound system. $349 for QLED!

    • It has Android 10 plus 4GB, you won't need to cast.

  • I bought a Woolworths Essentials eGift Card just for this and it doesn't work! I think Big W Online only accepts actual Wish eGift Cards.

    • There is a big w specific card also

  • Good deal, but they're on clearance because of new models coming out:

    https://www.eko-entertainment.com.au/

  • shipping killed the deal, used gift cards and used code SAVE25 to compensate for this, thanks got one

    • +1

The code didn’t work for me ?

      • Same here

The code didn't work for me

        • Likewise. Not working

  • +2

I have the 55, backlight bleed is really bad so I wouldn't recommend this for movies or cinematic tv shows. However for sport it's been great.

Also the CEC implementation sucks, or it's not very compatible with my AVR. Sometimes I wake up and the tv has been on all night and won't respond to any remote inputs.

I only have the smart tv version not the Android TV one so it might be newer/better.

  • +1

I have tried to buy the 55" QLED a few times on special from local stores, both times the order cancelled due to no stock. So don't be surpised if they cancel your order. Also its a worry as this stock that magaically appears can be returned stock perhaps? I have put an order through for the 55" again this time. the 5% shopback was the clincher that allowed me to handle the $50 delivery fee. For $380 net it might be good if it happens.

  • Does anyone know the vesa mount dimensions?

    • The 55 is 200x200 lower mount

  • Have people been able to return these from previous deals? It's marked clearance which seems to mean their usual change of mind return policy wouldn't apply.

    • +1

You can still return but the delivery fee is non-refundable

  • I have been looking at getting an EKO TV on special for a while and the 65" for $679 pickup would not be too bad. The main plus of it is it has 4 HDMI inputs - most of the other EKO sets (including 75") only have 3.

  • Is it better to wait for the upcoming Aldi deal for similar price?

    • Seems like this one have more features and bigger screen, the Aldi one is not a smart tv

  • I purchased the 65" frameless back in January. I was very happy with it until the panel just died after about 4 days of use. Eko sent a technician out to replace the mainboard, which didn't fix it because it was the panel, so I ended up hauling it back to BigW for a refund as they had no more in stock for an replacement.
I'd say 98% of their panels are fine, I was just part of the unlucky 2%. But I was enjoying it for the few days it was working.

    • do they refund delivery fees as well in that case?

      • I picked mine up in store and transported it home, so can't answer whether they would have refunded the delivery cost unfortunately. I would have gladly paid for delivery originally but it wasn't an option back in January when I first bought it!

  • Out of stock now I think, had it in my cart for delivery bah!!!

    • Same here :)

    • Damn. I waited too long.

      • -1

If there are less than 3 TVs in stock at your local selected store, it will display "out of stock" message. I would suggest to visit the store or call them. I did the same when I bought one.

  • Snagged the 55 for the boy. Should go well enough with his ps5. Replacing old 1080p lg.

    • From previous post on here, the frameless model seems to be superior to the one in the link you posted. I would stay clear of it unless you are willing to gamble.

      • Thanks.

  • Anyone know when these will be delivered? Im guessing 2-3 weeks?

  • I've had the 58" QLED model for the last 2 months, it's been pretty good so far. I got it with the discounted gift cards for around $525.

Sound quality definitely isn't the best but for me as a bedroom tv I don't see the point on spending $200-$300 on a good sound bar for a $500 tv. Been trying to look out for some good deals but nothing so far.

Other than that picture quality is pretty good, only thing is on black screens there is slight backlight glow but it's very mild and I'm fine with it personally.

The frameless design is nice and sleek and looks good.

Just had my order cancelled. Had ordered within an hour of this getting posted so keep an eye out on your inbox for similar emails.

    • Price error? Or insufficient stock?

    • Mine was cancelled too.

    • Me too. Insufficient stock

  • Cancelled order. Annoying.

  • mine cancelled as well

  • Order cancelled too :(

  • My order has been cancelled, paid using wish gift card and PayPal, only receive the refund from PayPal, ordered within 20 mins of this post

    • I hope we get a Wish eGift card back and not a Big W eGift card.

      • +1

I will lodge a complaint if they give me a big w one, and I will not accept any other refund like email voucher code with minimum spend etc, it has to be original payment method

  • Order cancelled 😖

  • Cancelled! Thought that was pretty likely. Annoying as I would have accepted the normal 55" android screen as a substitution.

  • Price error then?

  • -1

dont go lower than a TCL c715 for a QLED it will be trash quality and picture

  • Cancelled here. Bastards.

  • +1

    Cancelled what a joke

    • Can you speak to your boss and get it un-cancelled
